After seven weeks of bombings that killed people and damaged property, Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas have agreed to a four-day truce that will start on Friday. Later that day, the first group of Israeli prisoners will be freed, Qatar said on Thursday.

What are the details of the deal?

When talking to reporters in Doha, Majed Al-Ansari, a spokesman for Qatar’s foreign ministry, said that the peace deal would cover both the north and south of the Gaza Strip.

As part of the deal for the first ceasefire in the war that began when Hamas terrorists attacked Israel on October 7, 50 women and children who were being held hostage by Hamas would be freed. Around 150 Palestinians who were being held in Israeli jails would also be freed.

Ansari also said that 13 women and children would be the first prisoners to be freed on Friday. “If there were a group of hostages from the same family, they would be released together in this first batch,” he said.

“During these four days, information will be collected about the rest of the hostages to consider the possibility of more releases and thus extending the pause,” said Ansari.

But Israel has said that the peace deal could last longer than four days if Hamas freed ten hostages every day. A spokesperson for Qatar also said that the country wanted to reach a new deal to free more hostages in Gaza by the fourth day of the truce. Netanyahu also made it clear that Israel was not finishing its war with Gaza and that the fighting would not be going back to normal any time soon.

Ansari talked about the break and said it meant “a complete ceasefire… with no attacks from the air or the ground.” He also said he hoped “there would be no violations.”

How will it be implemented?

Qatar said that the Red Cross International Committee will work in Gaza to help get the prisoners freed. It is likely that they will be moved through Egypt. During the time of the peace deal, trucks carrying food and fuel are due to cross into Gaza. There, 2.3 million people are running out of food, and many hospitals have had to close because they don’t have enough fuel for their generators.

New Delhi:Tuesday, during a meeting with his Australian counterpart Penny Wong, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar discussed India’s fraught relationship with Canada. As part of the India-Australia Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue, the two also deliberated on the Quad alliance alongside the Australian foreign minister.

In replying to a question regarding Canada subsequent to their meeting in the nation’s capital, he stated that they deliberated on the diplomatic dispute. He stated that he conveyed India’s perspective regarding the tolerance of radicalism and extremism in Canada.

“From our point of view, the key issue is really the space which is being given to extremism and radicalism in Canada,” according to him.

Given Australia’s amicable relations with both India and China, he stated that “Australia must understand our position on the matter.”

Additionally, the regional partnership Quad, which Japan, India, the United States, and Australia formed to counter China’s increasing assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific, was discussed by the two leaders.

“During our discussion today, Quad was at length discussed…We are engaged in the resolution of a wide array of concerns,” he explained.

In addition to commerce and investments, the meeting encompasses discussions on intelligence sharing pertaining to military and shipping operations.

Bloomberg reports that India and Australia have reached a mutual agreement to map the sea floor of the Indian Ocean, a region vital for submarine operations, and to establish formal protocols for air-to-air refueling.

Since September, when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of complicity in the assassination of Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, relations between India and Canada have been tense.

New Delhi, in its denial of the “baseless” allegation, has requested Canada to provide evidence.

Australia and India supported a two-state resolution to the Israel-Palestine dispute.

In the interim, S. Jaishankar stated at a virtual meeting of BRICS leaders that the Palestinians’ concerns must be taken seriously.

ALSO READ : India’s diplomatic turmoil is hurting millions, says Trudeau.

“In Gaza, the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas is a source of immense human suffering.” Humanitarian assistance is currently required to reach the population of Gaza immediately. Additionally, it is critical that every single captive be liberated. PM Modi has engaged in discussions with numerous leaders both regionally and globally regarding this matter. He has emphasized the necessity of resuming authentic and direct peace negotiations and establishing the conditions for peace. We hold the view that giving due consideration to the concerns of Palestinians is essential. “This is only possible through a two-state solution,” he continued.

Nitish Kumar explained in the Assembly the significance of providing women with sex education as a means of population control.

Nitish Kumar, The CM of Bihar, was accused of employing derogatory language while explaining the role of women’s education in population control in the Assembly on Tuesday. Social media was flooded with videos of Nitish Kumar defending his position on population control, and a number of Bihar women MLAs objected to the chief minister’s language. Tejashwi Yadav, the deputy chief minister, stated that misinterpreting Nitish Kumar’s statement is incorrect. “Allow me to provide some clarification. The topic of the chief minister’s remarks pertained to sexual education. Despite the fact that this subject causes apprehension among the general public, it is taught in science and biology courses. This is what children acquire. He described the practical measures that must be taken to control the population. “This should be regarded as sex education rather than misconstrued,” Tejashwi advised.

Sharing the video on its X handle, the Bihar BJP referred to Nitish Kumar as “AslilNitish” and stated that no leader in Indian politics has ever been as profane as he is. “Nitish Kumar is the most obscene leader in the history of Indian politics.” Nitish Babu’s psyche appears to be plagued by the insect that inhabits “B” grade adult films. A public prohibition on his double-meaning dialogues is warranted. “It appears that his company has an effect on him!” the post stated.

“The Chief Minister’s remarks are nonsensical and he has surpassed the age of seventy.” He employed a term that is beyond our ability to articulate. “We, as women, will all protest,” declared Gayatri Devi, a BJP MLA.

Nivedita Singh, an MLC, questioned whether the state Assembly is an appropriate venue for sex education. Assembly is not an appropriate setting for sexual education courses. The chief minister’s explanation became extremely pragmatic. His utterance lacked any contextual information. We were all seated there to hear Nitish Kumar speak about the caste census that we had all supported. “However, he altered the entire situation, and Nitish Kumar will not tolerate even the most mild condemnation,” the MLC stated.

“The husband’s actions resulted in additional births.” However, education enables a woman to exert control over him; this is the reason for the decline in birth rates…You, as correspondents, have a thorough understanding as well. The fertility rate, which was 4.3 previously, has since decreased to 2.9. “Moreover, we will soon reach two,” Nitish Kumar elaborated.

Nitish Kumar’s vile remarks have prompted NCW to demand an apology.

Nitish Kumar’s remark was met with an urgent demand for an apology from the National Commission for Women, which deemed it a violation of the dignity of women. “On behalf of every woman in this country, the NCW demands that CM Nitish Kumar issue an immediate and unequivocal apology.” His inane remarks in the Vidhan Sabha violate the dignity and esteem that are due to every woman. The slanderous and uncivilized language he employed in his discourse tarnishes our society. In a democratic society, if a leader is capable of openly expressing such views, the state must be enduring an atrocity beyond description. “We vehemently oppose such conduct and demand responsibility,” the NCW said in a statement.

The leader of the Delhi Commission for Women, Swati Maliwal, demanded an apology from Nitish Kumar for his “disgraceful” language.

Tuesday, the Bihar assembly received the Caste Survey report, which unveiled that over one-third of Bihar’s households survive on a daily income of ₹200 or less, or a maximum monthly income of ₹6,000. On Tuesday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar declared his intention to increase quotas for Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, and Other Backward Classes in the state. He added that legislation in this regard is likely to be introduced during the ongoing assembly session.

In September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a virtual leaders’ summit during the G20 summit in New Delhi.

Opinion leaders from the G20 will convene virtually in India on November 22 to discuss other global issues and follow up on crucial decisions made at the summit in September, particularly regarding the development agenda, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the proposition to convene the virtual leaders’ summit during the summit that took place in New Delhi on September 9-10, notwithstanding the absence of a definitive date at that moment.

Some member states are anticipated to bring up the Israel-Hamas conflict in addition to the Ukraine conflict, according to sources who requested anonymity. India, along with the other G20 members, has condemned the terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas against Israel and demanded an end to hostilities. They added that the Indian side has also finalized an agenda that has been distributed to G20 members.

Although no outcome documents will be produced during the virtual summit, it is probable that the Indian side will release a press statement following the meeting. All subsequent discussions will take place in private settings after Modi’s opening remarks on television.

It has occurred in the past, according to the individuals, for a G20 presidency-holding nation to host more than one summit. Italy, during its presidency in 2021, convened an unprecedented summit of world leaders concerning Afghanistan a few months following the Taliban’s takeover of power in Kabul.

“The virtual summit will provide an opportunity to evaluate the progress made since the September in-person summit.” A viewpoint exchange is scheduled to occur, and the G20 members have been provided with an agenda in advance,” stated one of the individuals cited earlier.

“The Indian perspective will be presented, and it is anticipated that other member states will do the same.” “India’s development agenda will continue to be a priority,” the individual further stated.

“The Indian side chose to hold the in-person summit earlier than usual, which gave us time to conduct a follow-up and evaluate everything that has transpired since September,” said a second individual.

A little over a week prior to December 1, when India will relinquish the rotating presidency of the G20 to Brazil, the virtual meeting will take place. Arindam Bagchi, a spokesman for the External Affairs Ministry, stated at a media briefing last month that all G20 members and guest nations have been extended invitations to the virtual summit, and that India anticipates “significant participation.”

The joint leaders’ declaration that was released at the G20 Summit in September was seen as India’s most important diplomatic achievement. This was because of the different views on the conflict in Ukraine that had led to joint statements at all ministerial meetings before this.

Also read this:Payload on board Aditya-L1 captures first X-ray glimpse of solar flares

As stated in the declaration, all nations are obligated to abstain from employing force to “seek territorial acquisition against the territorial integrity and sovereignty” of any state, in accordance with the United Nations Charter. It emphasized the significance of maintaining food and energy security and demanded an end to military destruction and other forms of infrastructure attacks, without specifically mentioning Russia.

The former Union minister, who claimed democracy was in jeopardy, stated on Sunday that the current administration was applying different standards to the two incidents.

Safeguarding the essence of the Indian Constitution is imperative. It is essential that all three of our democratic pillars—the legislative, executive, and judicial—maintain their strength. They embody the essence of parliamentary democracy in addition to its physical structure. However, this is not occurring. “Why is the current administration at the Centre treating TMC’s Mahua Moitra and BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri differently, or applying double standards?” he asked at an event.

Moitra was called before the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee on the allegation that, in exchange for costly gifts and other inducements, she had disclosed the login credentials of her official account to businessman Darshan Hiranandani. On the basis of “evidence” provided by Moitra’s erstwhile friend Jai Anant Dehadrai, BJP member Nishikant Dubey has claimed that the businessman used her account to submit his own questions to Parliament regarding the Adani Group.

On November 2, Moitra appeared before the panel; she subsequently stormed out, alleging that Vinod Sonkar, the panel’s chairman, had posed her unethical queries. Sonkar, conversely, asserted that she addressed him with unparliamentary language. During the panel discussion, she avowed no culpability.

Strong criticism was directed at Bidhuri, a member of the BJP from South Delhi, for his “derogatory” remarks made against Ali in the Lok Sabha.

While Bidhuri was campaigning for the BJP, Moitra was compelled to appeal before the panel, according to Aiyar.

“I must say that electorates will have to remain cautious and alert in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls… they must cast their votes in the 2024 polls after proper thought,” according to PTI.

Moitra had requested that she be summoned by the panel after November 5. In contrast, she was instructed by the tribunal to appear on November 2.

On Sunday, Amit Shah, the union home minister, attacked the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government and accused it of “intentionally” inflating the Muslim and Yadav populations in the state’s caste survey. Additionally, he criticised the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ administration for engaging in ‘appeasement politics’.

“The determination to carry out the caste survey in Bihar was established during the JD(U)’s tenure as an NDA member. However, the methodology employed in the survey exposes the Mahagathbandhan government’s true intentions… the Muslim and Yadav populations were inadvertently inflated for the purpose of the exercise, Amit Shah stated at a rally in the Muzaffarpur district of Bihar.

He further stated, “…The government has no regard for the welfare of individuals from other backward communities.”

Based on the findings of the caste survey unveiled on October 2, 36.01 percent of the population was comprised of extremely backward communities (ECB), which comprised 112 castes. The remaining 27.12 percent was comprised of backward castes (30 communities). The combined proportion of the state’s backward castes and EBCs, known as other backward classes (OBC), is 63.13 percent. In contrast, the SC comprises 19.65 percent of the population and ST accounts for 1.68 percent.

In the interim, Tejashwi Yadav, the deputy chief minister of Bihar, condemned Shah’s allegation and advised him to undertake a caste census of the state.

Amit Shah posits that the Bihar caste survey intentionally exhibited a greater representation of the Muslim and Yadav communities. Yadav told the media, “I simply wish to advise him that if that has transpired, he ought to undertake a caste census throughout the nation, including all states governed by the BJP.”

As he continued his assault on Shah, the deputy chief minister of Bihar stated, “He is the source of all these nonsense statements…When he arrives, he continues to tell falsehoods and utter nonsense because he is at a loss for words. There is a position distribution taking place; he refuses to discuss that.”

Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel is a terrorist act, but there is also a problem in Palestine that must be resolved, said External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at the Joint Secretary Session of the External Affairs and Defence Commission of the Senate in Rome. “What transpired on October 7 constitutes a significant act of terrorism, and the events that followed have significantly redirected the entire region.” However, it is undoubtedly the aspiration of all that the conflict does not become the norm in the region and that stability and cooperation return at some point. “In the midst of this, we must strike a balance between various concerns; we must all condemn terrorism and take a stand against it,” Jaishankar stated.

Notwithstanding this, the matter of Palestine also arises. It is imperative that the challenges encountered by the Palestinian people be resolved. Furthermore, we believe that a two-state solution is necessary. Dialogue and negotiation are required in order to arrive at a resolution. A resolution cannot be achieved via conflict and terrorism. Consequently, we will also support that. Given the current state of affairs, we do believe that all individuals must abide by international humanitarian law. It would be imprudent to fail to achieve equilibrium in any intricate circumstance. “This is an essential component in tackling a highly challenging and intricate circumstance,” Jaishankar asserted.

India expressed its impartial position on the Israel-Hamas conflict by reiterating its support for the “establishment of a sovereign, independent, and viable state of Palestine” while condemning terrorism. Prime Minister Modi was among the initial world leaders to denounce the terrorist assault orchestrated by Hamas and vow unequivocal support for Israel. India refrained from voting on a resolution in the United Nations General Assembly that advocated for a ceasefire in Gaza due to its omission of any reference to Hamas and lack of condemnation of the attack.

Very challenging and turbulent times lie ahead: The Jaishankar

“…In all candor, we foresee extremely challenging and turbulent times in the future, and there are numerous reasons for this.” Concerning the last five years in particular, Covid’s effects on the global economy and society have been extremely traumatic. There remain numerous nations and societies that have yet to fully recuperate from it. Jaishankar stated, “We have seen that progress toward sustainable development goals has been halted in a number of countries, and that many more nations are currently confronted with a financial and economic crisis, with debt being a significant issue. Furthermore, the Ukraine conflict has affected every region of the globe.”

As part of a bigger air operation against Hamas in the Palestinian territory, the Israeli army told people in Gaza City that the area was now a “battlefield.” “To the people who live in the Gaza Strip: Gaza City, which is in the Gaza governorate, has turned into a battlefield.” This is not a safe place to stay in northern Gaza or the Gaza strip, the army said in leaflets dropped by fighter jets. Also, people were told to “evacuate immediately” to the south.

This comes after Israel sent more troops and tanks to Gaza and launched heavy air and sea attacks to support its ground operation. The defense minister of Israel said that “the ground shook in Gaza” and that the war had moved on to a new phase.

“We moved to the next stage of the war,” Yoav Gallant, Israel’s Defense Minister, said. “Last night, the ground shook in Gaza.” We hit both above and below ground. It’s clear what the forces should do. The effort will keep going until further notice.

According to the news agency AFP, a spokesman for Hamas said that the group wanted Israel to free all Palestinian inmates in exchange for hostages.

Palestinians have lost just over 7,700 lives in Gaza since October 7. Since late Friday, 377 more people have died. Gaza’s health ministry said that most of the people who were killed were women and children. Spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra told reporters that the health network has been “totally paralyzed” because of the problems with communication.

Volker Turk, who is in charge of human rights at the UN, said that “thousands more civilians” could die because of “the possibly catastrophic consequences of large-scale ground operations in Gaza.”

According to Mahmud Bassal, a spokesman for Gaza’s Civil Defense, “hundreds of buildings and houses were completely destroyed and thousands of other homes were damaged” in the overnight attacks.

His words to AFP were, “If it had been a natural earthquake, it would have been much easier than what happened last night.” He also said, “What happened last night was more like a horror movie.” People on the streets have turned into dead bodies that walk.
