Jessie Lemonier, a linebacker and defensive end with the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers, passed away on Thursday at the age of 25, the organisations reported.

The Lions released a statement expressing their “shock and sadness” upon his loss. The reason of death is yet unknown.

Lemonier, listed by the NFL as 6-foot-2 and 240 pounds with Liberty in 2020, went undrafted before signing with the Chargers. In that year, he participated in six games for Los Angeles before signing with Detroit in 2021 and playing in seven games, including two starts. Last May, the Detroit Lions waived Lemonier, who was then signed by the Arizona Cardinals, who waived him during training camp.

Jessie Lemonier, a native of Hialeah, Florida, moved to Liberty after spending a season with Ventura (California) College. During his two seasons with the Flames, during which they transitioned from the Football Championship Subdivision to the Football Bowl Subdivision, Lemonier contributed to the team’s first bowl appearance. He was voted MVP of the 2019 Cure Bowl after recording eight tackles and two sacks in a victory against Georgia Southern.
