Alexa was designed from the ground up to function as a virtual assistant while connected to a WiFi network. Without an internet connection, your Alexa device will not function for the reasons you most likely purchased it in the first place.

Why is Alexa inoperable without WiFi?

Alexa’s assistant functionality uses platforms such as Google to provide answers to inquiries you may pose to her. Without internet access, Alexa, for example, will be unable to inform you what the weather will be like.

This internet access is facilitated by a WiFi connection. Over 60% of the world’s internet is now accessible via wireless networks. Because of our increased reliance on WiFi, entrepreneurs and inventors can now design items based on their ability to connect to a WiFi network.

Without WiFi, Alexa will only function as a Bluetooth device. In this situation, your phone or mobile device is assisting the streaming of music or videos. As a result, it is your phone, not your Alexa device, that requires internet access.

Other Alexa capabilities, such as finding something, adding something to your schedule, playing music, or searching up news headlines, require a WiFi connection.

How to Use Alexa Without a WiFi Network

We understand that not every home has a WiFi router. Even without a permanent WiFi network, an Alexa can still perform some functions. As previously stated, Alexa may be used as a Bluetooth speaker even without a WiFi connection.

You’ll need to pair your phone with Alexa to accomplish this. This option is frequently found in your phone’s settings. Once in the settings screen, go to “Bluetooth” and make sure it is turned on on your phone.

You should be able to scan for available Bluetooth devices from here. Make sure your Alexa device is discoverable so that your phone can detect it. When your Alexa device’s name appears in the list of available devices, select it to pair.

When the pairing is complete, your Alexa will notify you. You may now play music and videos from your phone with the audio coming from your Alexa speaker. This can be done without any WiFi or internet connection.

You can use your phone as a WiFi hotspot if you still want to utilise Alexa fully but don’t have WiFi in your home. This feature will be available on the majority of smartphones. Enabling your phone as a WiFi hotspot effectively allows your phone’s mobile data to be shared with other devices.

Go to your mobile device’s settings to enable this feature. Choose “WiFi and Network” and then “WiFi Hotspot.” Check that this function is enabled and that Alexa’s WiFi scanning is enabled.

After that, you’ll see a list of devices that can connect to your phone’s WiFi hotspot. Choose your Alexa device and have fun! Alexa will use your phone’s network and mobile data if you use it in this manner.

Is Alexa a Heavy Internet User?

According to most experts, Alexa should not need more than 1 GB of bandwidth per month. Its use is, however, something to consider if you hotspot your phone. You don’t want any surprises on your next bill!

Using Alexa Without a WiFi Connection

To summarise, even if WiFi is unavailable, you can still use your Alexa device. It just will not work with all of its functions. You may still use the device to listen to music and use your phone’s hotspot to allow extra Alexa functionalities.
