IND vs AUS 4th Test: Prior to the fourth and final Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Ahmedabad, the Indian prime minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese were on hand to commemorate ’75 years of camaraderie’ between the two nations. Before the match, BCCI secretary Jay Shah and president Roger Binny felicitated Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Albanese, respectively.

Following a traditional song and dance, the respective prime ministers presented Test caps to the commanders of both teams, Rohit Sharma and Steve Smith. As Rohit approached the stage, Prime Minister Modi shook his hand and presented him with the Test cap. Rohit then greeted Smith.
In an endearing moment, the four posed for the camera with their hands interlocked.

Following the event, both commanders gathered for the toss at the Narendra Modi Stadium, where Smith elected to bat. While Australia has not made any changes to their lineup, India has substituted Mohammed Siraj for Mohammed Shami. The senior India pacer was rested in the third Test due to fatigue management, but he returned for the fourth and final match as India looks to seal the series with a victory.

The Indian team, commanded by Rohit Sharma, must win in order to qualify for the World Test Championship final, which takes place between June 7 and 11 at The Oval. Australia qualified for the final with a victory in the Indore Test last week.

IND vs AUS 4th Test-Speculation surrounded the Indian playing XI prior to the final Test of the series, with many fans and former cricketers debating whether India would take the field with an additional batsman; however, Rohit and the team management decided to stick with the existing combination for the series-deciding final Test.

IND vs AUS 3rd Test Day 3: Australia defeated India by nine wickets, concluding the third Test in just over two days to earn a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) championship match. After losing Usman Khawaja (0) in the very first over, Travis Head (49) and Marnus Labuschagne (28) brought the visitors across the finish line. The hosts were bowled out for 163 in their second innings, leaving Australia with a target of just 76 runs to record a tremendously gratifying victory after losing the first two Border-Gavaskar matches within three days. On the second day of the match at Holkar Stadium, veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon took eight wickets in the Indian second innings, contributing significantly to Australia’s victory.

This is India’s third home Test defeat in the last ten years. In spite of being dismissed for 109 runs in their first innings, India did well to restrict Australia to 197 runs, conceding an 88-run lead. However, the Indian batters failed to put up a fight during their second innings, as Lyon returned outstanding figures of 8-64. India leads the four-game series 2-1 after victories at Nagpur and New Delhi.

IND vs AUS 3rd Test Day 3 Highlights

Nathan Lyon, Player of the Match: It has been a pretty remarkable Test series. But to come out here and put a really good team performance that is something I am really proud about. Today to see the boys get there one down is pretty special. I don’t have all the tricks or all the trades in the game but one thing I do have is belief in my stock ball and that is the biggest thing in world cricket, if you believe in your best ball then you can challenge the best players in the world for longer periods of time.

Rohit Sharma, India captain: When you lose a Test match there are a lot of things which didn’t go our way. Obviously we didn’t bat well in the first innings and we understand how important it is to put runs on the board. Once they got a 80-90 run lead, we had to produce another innings with the bat and we were not able to do that. If we had batted well in the first innings then things would have been different. We haven’t thought about the Ahmedabad Test, we just finished the Test and we have some time to think about it. We need to understand no matter what the pitches are we have to come out and do the job. When you are playing on challenging pitches you have to be brave. I felt we allowed their bowlers to bowl to one particular spot, not taking any credit away especialy Lyon, but when a bowler is doing that you have to come up with different plans. One odd game can happen like that and this game was all about that. We want few guys stand up and put their hand up to take the team through. You will falter in your plans and that’s what happened in this game.

The WTC Final scenarios

A victory in Ahmedabad is sufficient for India to qualify. While a loss or even a tie would take their fate out of their control and require them to rely on New Zealand’s performance to qualify. Sri Lanka is the only other team capable of displacing India in the WTC final. If India loses or draws the Ahmedabad Test, New Zealand must win or draw at least one of the remaining two matches against Sri Lanka.

David Warner was ruled out of the ongoing Test series against India after suffering a hairline fracture in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s second match.

During the second Test in Delhi, the 36-year-old opener suffered two injuries within minutes of each other. A ball from Mohammad Siraj struck Warner on the elbow, causing a minor hairline fracture before a concussion forced him to be replaced by Matthew Renshaw.

“David Warner will return home after being ruled out of the Qantas test tour of India,” Cricket Australia announced in a statement. “During the second Test in Delhi, Warner was struck on the elbow and suffered a hairline fracture.”

The Australian cricket board added that the batter will undergo rehabilitation and is anticipated to return for the March 17–22 ODI series.

“After further evaluation, he will require a period of recuperation that will preclude his participation in the remaining Tests.” Following the Test Series, it is envisaged that he will return to India for three One-Day Internationals.”

In the second Test played in Delhi, India defeated Australia by six wickets to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Australia’s head coach Andrew McDonald stated on Monday (20 February) that Warner’s availability for the third Test, which begins on 1 March in Indore, would not be decided in a hurry.

McDonald stated, “He (Warner) is still sore at the moment.” “We are not in a hurry to make any choices regarding Davey at this moment.” There is some uncertainty there.”

In Delhi, Matthew Renshaw replaced David Warner due to concussion, allowing Travis Head to open Australia’s second innings in the second Test. McDonald stated that it would make perfect sense for Head to start the batting in Indore if Dave was unavailable.

IND vs AUS 2nd Test Day 3 Highlights: The peak of Ravindra Jadeja’s career On Sunday, India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 2-0 lead in the four-match series after defeating Australia by six wickets in three days during the second test. As a result, India took a 2-0 lead in the four-match series. In their second innings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin (3-59) reduced Australia to a meagre 113 runs, a career-high for Jadeja.

India’s top order faltered while chasing 115 to win, but their victory, which came in the second session of the third day, was never in doubt. In his 100th Test, Rohit Sharma scored 31 and Cheteshwar Pujara scores 31 not out for the winning run.

IND vs AUS 2nd Test brief scorecard

Australia: 263 and 113 all out in 31.1 overs (Travis Head 43, Marnus Labuschagne 35; Ravindra Jadeja 7/42, Ravichandran Ashwin 3/59)

India: 262 and 118 for 6 in 26.4 overs (Rohit Sharma 31, Cheteshwar Pujara 31 not out; Nathan Lyon 2/49)

What Pujara said while talking to broadcasters!

On playing his 100th Test: Yeah, it has been a great Test match. Unfortunately, I didn’t get many runs in the first innings. I knew that if I stayed in the crease for a while and played initial balls well, I could do well. It is a special feeling when your family watches you playing the 100th game. I am really happy about the occasion. I was really happy them seeing me finish off the match with a boundary.

On Saurashtra winning the Ranji Trophy: Happy for the boys of Saurashtra for winning the Ranji Trophy. I did have an eye on the proceedings till lunch but couldn’t see what happened afterwards. Congratulations to all the Saurashtra boys.

On yesterday’s last session: I thought we might end up chasing 200-250. But kudos to our bowlers for restricting them to such a low score.

On playing sweep shot on this pitch: Sweep is not an ideal shot to play with low bounce, but I’ve worked on it. With my game, I use my feet well and try to judge length as early as possible. I’ve always done that throughout my career. Not really, it was the initial phase when you walk out to bat. Some balls spun and some went straighter. Once you play 30-40 balls, it’s a good pitch to bat. Once the ball gets softer, it gets easier to bat on.

The Border Gavaskar Trophy is contested by the mighty Australians and the Indian Men in Blue in a Test cricket series. These two cricketing titans engage in cricket battles with alternate editions held in India and Australia.

This year, from February 9 to March 13, four test matches will be played in Nagpur, Delhi, Dharamsala, and Ahmedabad. These matches will comprise the final cycle of WTC 2021-23.

India hosted the inaugural tournament in 1996-97. The trophy is named after cricketing legends Sunil Gavaskar and Sir Allan Border, who represent the two competing nations. After 2020-21, the most recent edition will be played beginning on February 9, 2023.

With India attempting to qualify for the WTC Final and Australia attempting to win a series in the subcontinent, let’s examine the top five players who are expected to excel in the upcoming tournament..

Usman Khawaja

Since his return to the squad, he has been one of the most consistent Australian players. Featured in the ICC Test squad as the first-choice opener with over one thousand runs, he is Australia’s greatest hope for the India tour this year, as he is a great spinner and the most conventional cricketer for slow pitches.

Khawaja is currently the eighth-ranked Test player in the world, and only Rishabh Pant (7) is ranked higher among Indian batsmen. This demonstrates how much of a comeback Khawaja has made in recent months. We anticipate that the opener will be one of Australia’s most important players in this upcoming series.

Steve Smith

This name cannot be omitted frequently from cricket testing. Smith is the most consistent performer in Test cricket, with a career batting average exceeding 60. The classic Australian batsman has been an outstanding performer for both Australia and the subcontinent. The middle-order batsman is one of the most dependable pillars of the Australian batting order.

Steve Smith has recently wreaked havoc in the ongoing Big Bash League season. Although it is unfair to compare the Australian batsman’s performances in the shortest and longest formats of the game, it is clear that he has improved, and Team India will be terrified of his enormous potential. We are all aware of Smith’s greatest abilities.

Marnus Labuschagne

Australia’s Labuschagne has been a standout in tests since his debut. Labuschagne is currently the top-ranked Test batsman in the world, having appeared in the ICC Playing 11 for tests for two consecutive years. Labuschagne is currently one of the most formidable test players in the world and a fantastic candidate for Australian cricket.

Marnus Labuschagne has been Australia’s best and most reliable batsman for quite some time, and he demonstrated this in the most recent test series against India. It is anticipated that he will repeat his stellar performances this time.

Additionally, see World Test Championship (WTC) 2023: How can India qualify for the championship?

Shubman Gill

The reliable Indian opener has maximised his opportunities in every format in which he has been given the chance to compete. Gill is currently the most in-form batsman for India, as he has dominated the ODI format like a king and demonstrated equal dominance in the shorter format with a blazing century against New Zealand in the final ODI of the year.

After consolidating his position in limited-overs cricket, it is hoped that Gill will continue his phenomenal form from the 50- and 20-over formats to improve his performance in the longer format. Gill is therefore anticipated to be India’s most promising player, especially in the absence of Rishabh Pant, India’s most consistent test performer.

Virat Kohli Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Virat Kohli has emerged as one of India’s most versatile hitters in the longer format and as the middle order’s anchor. In recent years, Kohli’s performance has not been up to par, but there is no doubt that he has been India’s hottest performer in Tests when the big guns have been ineffective. In Pant’s absence, Virat Kohli would be entrusted with the responsibility of securing the middle order.

Due to his dominant form, Virat Kohli is currently one of India’s most dependable performers for the upcoming series.

India vs Australia:Due to outfield concerns, the 3rd Test match between India and Australia would be moved from Dharamsala. Indore’s Holkar Stadium will host the Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s third game from March 1-5.

The BCCI cancelled the game early on Monday, February 13, citing bad outfield conditions.”The third Test of the India vs Australia Border-Gavaskar Trophy, initially slated to take place at the HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala from 1st to 5th March has now been relocated to Holkar Stadium, Indore,” the BCCI announced in a press statement.

“Due to poor winter circumstances in the region, the outfield lacks appropriate grass density and will need some time to develop fully,” the announcement said. The news agency PTI previously reported that BCCI curator Taposh Chatterjee inspected the pitch and outfield at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) venue and submitted his findings to the board.

The match was anticipated to be relocated to Bangalore or Vizag, according to the PTI report.
The last international game hosted by the HPCA was the Sri Lanka T20I series in 2022. In 2017, India won the Border Gavaskar Trophy by eight wickets in the sole Test match played at the venue.
In contrast, Holkar Stadium held its final game of 2019 versus Bangladesh. Recently, a Ranji Trophy semi-final between Madhya Pradesh and Bengal was staged at this location. The wicket at Holkar Stadium was a sporting one where fast bowlers benefited from the presence of a little grass, but as the game progressed, the spinners made their impact.

Border Gavaskar Trophy Match

In 20 Test matches against Australia, Kohli has 1682 runs scored at an average of 48.06. He has seven centuries in their favour. When the Kangaroos last came to town in 2017, the righthander, though, found it difficult to overcome them. He played Kohli in three tests and only managed to score 46 runs at an average of 9.20. In the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy, former India coach Ravi Shastri predicts that if star batsman Virat Kohli can get off to a strong start in the first two innings, he will be a pain in the Australians’ side.

Shastri remarked, “His (Kohli’s) record versus Australia would urge him on,” during a virtual news conference run by Star Sports. Being fired up, he would want to get off to a strong start. His first two innings are worth examining. Aussies would find him annoying if he gets off to a good start. It’s safe to say that he would want that to occur.

Shastri stated: “Kohli has an average of little under 50 versus Australia.” When referring to the batter’s performance against the Australians. He should definitely get going given that record, which is amazing.

In 20 Test matches against Australia, Kohli has amassed 1682 runs at an average of 48.06 runs per innings. The odds are seven centuries in his favour.

But during the recent 2017 Kangaroos tour here, the right-hander found it difficult to overcome them. Kohli only managed to score 46 runs, averaging 9.20, in the three Test matches he participated in.

Kohli has only played in 23 Tests since his previous 100 in Test match cricket in 2019, averaging 23.60. When questioned about whether Kohli’s recent propensity for red ball cricket might work against him, Shastri said, “I don’t think so.” Who in the Indian side has recently played a lot of red-ball cricket, Shastri shot back.

Border Gavaskar Trophy Match

Beginning on Thursday in Nagpur, the first Test match between the teams. The Indian squad may explore using all four spinners, including Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja, according to reports from the Indian camp amid rumours that the surface will be a rank turner.

In order to prepare for the Indian spin contingent, Australia decided without playing any exhibition games and had their training camp at Alur in Bangalore instead.

Since 2015, the Australians haven’t triumphed over India in a Test series. India, on the other hand, has a chance to overcome Australia and get to the World Test Championship final.
