Both Kapil Sharma and Hina Khan have been invited to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Mahadev money-laundering case. This comes after it was reported that a large number of celebrities are currently being investigated by the central agency in connection with the money-laundering case. Their identities became public after an actor named Ranbir Kapoor was questioned the day before. A summons has been delivered to both the comedian and the actor, and they are required to report to the ED on Friday.

Kapil Sharma and Hina Khan summoned

Press organization ANI stated, “ED has summoned comedian Kapil Sharma and actor Huma Qureshi in connection with the Mahadev betting app case: ED Sources.” ED stands for the Enforcement Department. According to a report by News18, the name of the actor Hina Khan has also been brought up for consideration about this matter.

Ranbir Kapoor called by ED

Reportedly, Ranbir Kapoor was contacted beforehand to inquire about his knowledge of the origin of the funds he received for promoting the wagering app. According to a report by News18, the agency also asked the actor to visit their Raipur, Chhattisgarh office on October 6.

“Ranbir Kapoor has been requested to comprehend the wagering business transactions. He has not yet been summoned as an accused party. It is essential to inquire about his knowledge of the money sources he received. It may reveal the intentions of the promoters and their association, according to a source close to the development quoted by ED in the same report.

It also stated, “Ranbir Kapoor may not be part of a conspiracy, but his understanding of the scam is crucial.” Apparently, Ranbir has been compensated for conducting promotional activities for the in question wagering app. According to reports, many other celebrities and actors will shortly be summoned for the same reason.

According to sources in the ED, as many as seventeen Bollywood celebrities are involved in this process. This includes Shraddha Kapoor, Tiger Shroff, Sonakshi Sinha, and others, who attended or performed at Sourabh Chandrakar’s wedding in February of this year and the company’s success celebration in September of 2022.

What is Mahadev betting app case?

The Mahadev application facilitated illegal wagering on poker, card games, chance games, badminton, tennis, football, and cricket. The app is allegedly managed by Saurabh and Ravi Uppal of Dubai. The corporation is based in Dubai, where gambling is permitted, but it is illegal in India.

Two people with knowledge of the situation say that China is about to start a new state-backed investment fund that will try to raise about $40 billion for its chip industry. This is part of the country’s efforts to catch up with the U.S. and other rivals.

It is expected to be the biggest of the three funds started by the China Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund, also called the Big Fund.

Its goal of 300 billion yuan ($41 billion) is more than what similar funds raised in 2014 and 2019, which were 138.7 billion yuan and 200 billion yuan, respectively, according to government sources.

One of the two people and the third person said that equipment for making chips will be a big area of spending.

President Xi Jinping has talked for a long time about how important it is for China to make its own electronics. This need is even more urgent now that Washington has put in place a series of export control measures over the last couple of years, citing fears that Beijing could use advanced chips to improve its military capabilities.

In October, the U.S. put out a broad set of penalties that cut off China’s access to high-tech equipment for making chips. Japan and the Netherlands, both U.S. allies, have taken similar steps.

Two of the people said that the new fund was accepted by the Chinese government in the past few months.

One person said that China’s finance office plans to give 60 billion yuan. Other people who helped could not be found right away.

All of the people refused to give their names because the talks were private.

The State Council Information Office, which answers questions from the media on behalf of the government, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology did not quickly respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.

The Big Fund also didn’t answer right away when asked for a statement.

INVESTMENTS TO DATE

The process of raising money is likely to take months, and the first two sources didn’t know right away when the third fund would start or if the plan would be changed again.

The finance minister and state-owned companies with a lot of money, like China Development Bank Capital, China National Tobacco Corporation, and China Telecom, helped back the Big Fund’s first two funds.

Over the years, the Big Fund has given money to China’s two biggest chip foundries, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation and Hua Hong Semiconductor, as well as to Yangtze Memory Technologies, which makes flash memory, and a number of smaller companies and funds.

Even with all of these investments, China’s chip industry has had trouble becoming a leader in the global supply chain, especially when it comes to advanced chips.

INVESTMENT MANAGERS

Three people said that the Big Fund might hire at least two institutions to invest the new fund’s cash.

Since 2021, China’s anti-corruption authority has been looking into several current and past top officials at SINO-IC Capital, the only manager for the first two funds of the Big Fund.

Still, two of the people said that SINO-IC Capital is likely to be one of the managers for the third fund.

ALSO READ:Iranian water park closed for hijab violation: Report

SINO-IC Capital did not reply right away when asked for a comment.

Two of the people said that Chinese officials have also talked to the financial arm of the state-owned China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, which is called China Aerospace financial, about being one of the managers.

When asked for a comment, China Aerospace Investment did not answer right away.

The day after India lodged a strong protest with China over its latest’standard’ map that claimed Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin as its own territories, Beijing stated that the new map is “routine practice” and that concerned nations should “view it objectively and rationally.”

Thursday during a press conference, China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin stated, “China’s position on the South China Sea is consistent and unambiguous. The competent authorities of China publish standard maps of various types on a yearly basis in an effort to make standard maps accessible to all sectors of society and to increase public awareness of the standard use of maps.”

He added, “We hope all parties involved will view it objectively and rationally.”

China released the 2023 edition of its “standard map” on August 28, staking claims over Arunachal Pradesh, the Aksai Chin region, Taiwan, and the South China Sea, sparking an enormous controversy. Despite India’s repeated assertions that Arunachal Pradesh has always been and remains an integral part of the country, the map was published.

Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement that it had lodged a forceful protest with the Chinese government through diplomatic channels. “We reject these allegations because they are without merit. Such actions by the Chinese only serve to complicate the resolution of the boundary dispute, the MEA stated.

Philippines rejects China’s “standard map”

The Philippines have also rejected China’s “standard map” that incorporates the nine-dash line (now a ten-dash line) in their territory. Republic Aeon cited the Philippines Foreign Ministry as saying, “This latest attempt to legitimize China’s purported sovereignty and jurisdiction over Philippine features and maritime zones has no basis under international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS),” according to an official release.

It is now official that Chinese President Xi Jinping will not attend the G-20 summit in New Delhi on September 9-10, but will instead dispatch Premier Li Qiang in his place.

According to credible sources, Premier Li Qiang will fly directly to New Delhi after attending the 43rd ASEAN summit in Jakarta from September 5 to 7. Flight plans for the VVIP aircraft have been submitted, but the Ministry of External Affairs is still awaiting official notification.

While the Modi government remains tight-lipped regarding the reasons for President Xi’s absence from the G-20 summit, it is perturbed by China’s publication of the so-called standard map of the Communist nation, which incorporates portions of Aksai Chin and the entirety of Arunachal Pradesh as a result of its cartographic expansion.

The timing of the map’s release raised significant concerns about Jinping’s attendance at the Delhi power summit. Beijing publishes an annual standard map, but this is the first time that New Delhi has lodged a strong protest over map issues, refuting the claims of the Communist nation.

It is unclear why China released the controversial map and used its propaganda apparatus to promote it. At the recently concluded BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a brief conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping in which he voiced severe concern over the situation along the Line of Actual Control.

It is believed that Beijing desired a bilateral meeting with India on the margins of the summit in an effort to normalize relations that have been strained since the PLA’s aggression in East Ladakh in May 2020. Due to constraints on Prime Minister Modi’s schedule, the formal meeting could not take place.

PM Modi’s response that normal relations can resume only after the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) withdraws from Aksai Chin and Indian Army patrolling rights are restored in Depsang Bulge and CNN junction in Demchok has angered the Chinese president.

China has indicated through this map that it views India as an adversary and will exert coercive pressure on New Delhi for maintaining close ties with the United States and the Quad powers prior to the G20 summit. It will maintain military pressure along the 3,488-kilometer-long Line of Actual Control (LAC) and arm its client state Pakistan to place pressure on India’s western borders.

Gold and other riskier assets have also been declining alongside the Dow for the past eight days. Fear of taking chances has increased as a result.

Only the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) can sell dollars at times of rupee weakness because it has amassed large dollar reserves at 81.70. On Wednesday, it sold $2 billion, and it may have cautioned banks to reduce their dollar-rupee arbitrage holdings, which drove the rupee up to a high of 82.37 on Tuesday. Because of this, the depreciation of the rupee will be sluggish and gradual, depending on the movements of the dollar and Asian currencies following Friday’s Jackson Hole (Wyoming) Symposium hosted by the (US) Federal Reserve.

A weak rupee always discourages foreign direct investment because foreign investors begin to lose money on their holdings. However, a sluggish decline will permit FPIs to continue investing.

As the RBI anticipates interest rates to be higher, at 5.7%, (there may be) no rate reduction for the next 6-7 months until March 24.

Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif invitesTurkey to join the ambitious China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) on Wednesday, transforming it into a trilateral arrangement so that all three cordial nations could reap its benefits.

Sharif made these remarks during the christening of the fourth MILGEM-class corvette warship PNS Tariq, which was inducted into the Pakistan Navy fleet at the Karachi Shipyard.

Initiated in 2018, the MILGEM project envisioned the construction of two corvettes in Pakistan and two in Turkey for the Pakistan Navy. Vice President of Turkey Cevdet Yilmaz also attended the ceremony.

Shehbaz stated that turning the multibillion-dollar infrastructure project into a trilateral agreement would bring regional prosperity and empower people through the finest facilities, including education and health care.

The prime minister emphasised, “I believe all three countries can benefit from the potential of the CPEC, which has been a tremendous success.”

Pakistan and China describe their relationship as “all-weather,” whereas Pakistan and Turkey, both Muslim-majority countries, have close bilateral ties.

Sharif also emphasised the need to connect Karachi’s Port Qasim to the CPEC-built Gwadar port in Balochistan.

Pakistan needed to establish linkages between the Karachi and Gwadar ports because Gwadar was about to become a business hub for the country as well as the region, as a result of the increasing demand on Port Qasim in Karachi.

The CPEC is an ambitious USD 60 billion project that, according to Islamabad, will transform Pakistan by improving its infrastructure, energy, industrialization, socioeconomic development requirements, and people’s standard of living.

The CPEC is a route of infrastructure projects spanning 3,000 kilometres between the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in China’s northwest and the Gwadar Port in the western Pakistani province of Balochistan.

India has objected to China’s construction of the CPEC pipeline through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

After missing an international diplomatic summit in Indonesia, his ministry subsequently stated that he was absent from work for unspecified health reasons, but the lack of specifics fueled a whirlwind of rumours.

According to analysts and diplomats, it also increased suspicions regarding the transparency and decision-making of the country’s cloistered leadership.

Wang, who filled in for Qin during his absence, reclaims the position he held from 2018 to 2022.

The Chinese foreign ministry did not respond to a request for comment on the switch’s causes.

It coincides with a flurry of international engagements and frayed relations with rival superpower the United States, which Beijing has characterised as being at their lowest point since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

China’s economy is in trouble :China will likely report accelerated economic growth for the second quarter, but underlying data will reveal a more difficult picture.

The comparison with last year, when Shanghai was experiencing a Covid-related lockdown, will make Monday’s gross domestic product figures appear significantly higher than they actually were. According to economists polled by Bloomberg, the GDP likely increased 7.1% year-over-year in the third quarter, up from 4.5% in the previous period.

However, compared to the first quarter of 2023, it likely increased by only 0.8%. June data for industrial production, retail sales, and fixed investment, all of which are scheduled for release on Monday, are anticipated to indicate a marked decline. Particularly, retail sales growth likely declined to 3.3% from 12.7% in May.

The continuing saga of China’s economic calamity
For a more complete picture of China’s economic recovery, economists are focusing on more recent data. The signs thus far have been discouraging: manufacturing activity is contracting, deflation is on the horizon, export demand is declining, and recent holiday spending was subdued.

After an unexpected reduction in interest rates in June, speculation has increased that the People’s Bank of China will add more stimulus. Officials indicated on Friday that additional assistance may be forthcoming, though it is likely to be limited in scope and targeted towards specific sectors, such as the real estate market and private enterprises.

All economists surveyed by Bloomberg predict that the PBOC will maintain the same 2.65% interest rate on its one-year policy loans on Monday, while some anticipate a modest net injection of funds.

What Bloomberg Economics Says: “The PBOC desires to avoid introducing too much stimulus too quickly.” It has learned through experience that rapid monetary easing can have unintended consequences.”

Elsewhere, a crucial UK inflation number will help indicate the magnitude of the next rate move, retail sales will be the focus of attention in the United States, and central-bank decisions from Turkey to South Africa may produce drama.

New Delhi: In an effort to demonstrate its diplomatic prowess, China has recently begun mediating the decades-long Palestine-Israel conflict. China, building on its success in mediating a peace agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iran, now aims to reduce tensions and promote stability in the Middle East by actively pursuing a solution to the Palestinian issue.

China’s involvement in the issue was highlighted in an article published by the Global Times, a Chinese government-affiliated news outlet. The publication urged the international community to refocus on the Palestinian issue, emphasizing the collective responsibility to assist the Middle East in achieving peace and stability.

Seven persons were injured in a recent Palestinian suicide attack in Tel Aviv, carried out by a 20-year-old Palestinian, which highlights the urgency of mediation. Hamas, a Palestinian political organization, described the assault as a “first response to Israeli crimes against Jenin residents.” This incident and a succession of events that have escalated have increased the need for external intervention to de-escalate tensions.

Significantly, China’s attempt to mediate follows Israel’s extensive operation in Jenin involving drones and helicopters, which resulted in the largest assault in the northern West Bank in more than two decades.

The operation resulted in the death of at least ten Palestinians, the injury of eighty others, and the flight of thousands from the affected refugee camp. In response, Palestine severed all contacts, meetings, and security coordination with the Israeli government, vehemently condemning its brutal West Bank raids.

During a June 27 meeting of the UN Security Council, the Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, emphasized the significance of breaking the cycle of violence between Israelis and Palestinians.

He emphasized the importance of upholding international law, halting unilateral actions that alter the status quo, honoring political commitments, and advancing the two-state solution. Zhang Jun’s comments demonstrate China’s desire to play a significant role as a regional arbitrator.

The expanding role of China in mediating conflicts is not limited to the Palestine-Israel conflict. The recent success in facilitating the resumption of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran has emboldened China to pursue additional diplomatic efforts as a mediator in international disputes involving Gulf states and beyond.

In June, President Mahmoud Abbas of the State of Palestine visited China, where President Xi Jinping proposed a three-point settlement for the Palestinian issue. President Xi emphasized the urgency of addressing the unresolved issue, which has caused the Palestinian people significant distress for decades.

The visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to China, scheduled for later this month, is anticipated by Chinese leaders. Although the trip has not yet been officially confirmed, experts and academics believe that Netanyahu’s visit could be instrumental in advancing a peaceful resolution to the Palestine-Israel conflict.

According to some experts, Netanyahu’s decision to engage with China reflects Israel’s desire to remind the United States that other diplomatic options exist.

China seeks to facilitate the resumption of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel in addition to mediating the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Western nations, and the United States in particular, have yet to determine how they will respond to China’s newfound willingness to mediate in complex international issues.

General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff, affirmed on Tuesday that there has been no de-escalation of the Chinese Army from India’s northern borders since May 2020, and that the current situation poses a challenge to the Indian Army. He stated that negotiations are underway with the PLA commanders to ensure that Chinese troops withdraw from East Ladakh’s Demchok (Charging Ninglung Nullah junction) and Depsang Bulge region.

While it is true that PLA deployment in East Ladakh is at the same level as in 2020, the same cannot be said for the eastern sector, where three combined armed brigades (approximately 4,500 men plus artillery and rockets in each CAB) were inducted by the PLA prior to the 20th National Party Congress of the Communist Party of China in October 2022. In order to transform Tibet and Sinkiang aka Xinjiang province into military fortresses, the PLA reserve personnel were transferred from the Southern and Eastern Theater Commands to the Western Theater Command facing India.

China observers initially believed that the additional reserve troops across Siliguri Corridor and Arunachal Pradesh would be withdrawn after President Xi Jinping was re-elected for a third term, but this assessment proved to be incorrect. The three CABs are currently stationed along India’s eastern border with China, and the current assessment is that the deployment is permanent.

The additional PLA deployments in the eastern sector, including the Tawang region, have also compelled the Indian Army to disband its eastern Army Command in preparation for the Chinese military threat, should the red flag be raised. The Indian Army has also fortified the entire sensitive Siliguri corridor with missile and rocket regiments to prevent the military from being caught off guard by sudden Chinese movement towards Jampheri Ridge across Torsa Nullah on the Doklam plateau or the Amu Chu valley in north Bengal.

Even though the PLA has attempted to avoid disengaging from CNN junction and Depsang Bulge by claiming it is a legacy issue or occurred prior to the Chinese Army’s aggression in May 2020, the ground situation in both of these areas was altered by Chinese troop deployments in 2020. By deploying additional personnel in both Demchok and Depsang Bulge, the PLA has strengthened its positions on the ground and placed military obstacles in the way of Indian Army patrols in these two regions.

According to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, India-China relations will remain anomalous until Indian Army patrolling rights to CNN junction and Depsang Bulge are restored and the PLA de-escalate along the 3488-kilometer Line of Actual Control (LAC). The government of Narendra Modi has repeatedly and firmly conveyed this message to the Xi Jinping regime. The projectile is in Chinese territory.
