The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’, which made landfall in coastal areas of Gujarat on Thursday, will diminish further by Friday morning and transform into a ‘depression’ by the following evening. The intensity of the cyclone decreased from’very severe’ to’severe’ after yesterday’s landfall.

Here are the top ten updates you must be aware of

Officials from the IMD reported that the’severe’ cyclone Biparjoy was centered over the Saurashtra-Kutch region and was expected to move northeast, with torrential rains forecast for Rajasthan on Friday. As of 02:30 IST today, the severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy was centered 30 kilometers north of Naliya, according to an IMD tweet. “It is expected to move northeastwards and weaken into a cyclonic storm by early morning on June 16 and into a depression that evening over southern Rajasthan,” the report stated.

According to IMD Director Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, the cyclone has moved from the ocean to land and is now centered over Saurashtra-Kutch. “Cyclone Biporjoy moved northeast and crossed the Saurashtra-Kutch adjoining Pakistan coast near the Jakhau port in Gujarat,” according to Weather Underground. Mohapatra told ANI that the cyclone has moved from the ocean to land and is now centered over Saurashtra-Kutch. “The cyclone’s intensity has decreased to 105-115 kilometers per hour.” Changed from extremely severe cyclonic storm (VSCS) to severe cyclonic storm (SCS). On June 16 (Friday), there may be significant rainfall in Rajasthan,” he added.

Over southwest Rajasthan on 16 and 17 June and over southeast Rajasthan on 17 and 18 June, the IMD forecasts light to moderate precipitation at many locations, heavy to very heavy precipitation with isolated extremely heavy downpours probable.

.The weather office added that isolated heavy to very heavy precipitation is also possible over southwest Rajasthan on June 18 and over southeast Rajasthan on June 16 and 19.

Earlier on Thursday, Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot stated that the state was prepared for cyclone Biparjoy and the accompanying torrential rainfall.

On Wednesday, the chief minister met with the chief secretary, the director general of police, and meteorological department officials and stated that there was no cause for alarm. “We conducted a review. No need to panic, as Civil Defense and Disaster Management personnel have been dispatched, he told reporters in Bharatpur, as reported by media.

However, the chief minister advised residents of Barmer and Jalore to remain vigilant ahead of the approaching cyclone. The Met department predicts that Jodhpur and Udaipur will experience significant rainfall on Friday and Saturday due to the cyclone.

In addition, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jalore, and Jodhpur are expected to experience 60 to 70 km/h winds on Friday, and Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Ajmer on Saturday.

As a’very severe’ cyclonic storm made landfall on Gujarat’s coastal regions, at least 22 persons were injured and electric poles and trees were uprooted. In addition, 23 animals have been killed, and heavy rains and gusty winds have brought down over 524 trees and electric poles in various locations in Gujarat, cutting electricity to approximately 940 villages.

PM Modi also called Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday night to inquire about the situation in the state following the landfall of the potent cyclone ‘Biparjoy’.

During the landfall process, the wind speed is likely to be between 115 and 125 kmph with gusts up to 145 kmph as the cyclone Biparjoy approaches the coastlines of Saurashtra, Kutch, and adjacent Pakistan.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Biparjoy made landfall on Thursday along the coastlines of Saurashtra, Kutch in Gujarat, and neighboring Pakistan. During the process of making landfall, the wind speed is predicted to be between 115 and 125 kilometers per hour with gusts up to 145 kilometers per hour. According to IMD, heavy precipitation is likely to persist during the process of landfall.

IMD stated that the landfall procedure could take several hours to complete.

Cyclone Biparjoy delivers high tides and gusty winds to Gujarat’s coast.

Low-lying areas of Dwarka, Okha, Diu, Naliya, Veraval, Bhuj, Porbandar, and Kandla are predicted to be inundated by the storm surge caused by the cyclone, which is predicted to be 2-3 meters above the astronomical tide. IMD reported that the astronomical tides in some of these districts could reach between 3 and 6 meters in various locations.

The landfall location is anticipated to be between Mandvi and Karachi near Jakhau port, and the landfall procedure is anticipated to continue until Thursday at midnight. It takes a few hours to complete the landfall procedure, which may continue until midnight. The region where landfall will occur does not have a uniform coastline; it resembles a gulf, so the procedure of landfall will take time. The diameter of the entire system is approximately 300 kilometers, while the diameter of the primary wind area is 100 kilometers. It is a very intense cyclone that is anticipated to maintain its intensity, according to Ananda Das, IMD’s cyclone expert.

Follow LIVE updates on Cyclone Biparjoy here.

“On the radar, the northern portion of the cyclone is devoid of precipitation.

As previously stated, the majority of precipitation will descend along the southern eyewall. According to Vineet Kumar Singh, a researcher at the Typhoon Research Center at Jeju National University in South Korea, the southern side of the center will receive more rainfall in the next six hours than the northern side.

“According to data from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, Cyclone Biparjoy is now the longest-lasting cyclone in the annals of the Arabian Sea, surpassing the June 1998 cyclone. “Cyclone Biparjoy will maintain cyclone strength (winds > 34 knots) for the next 192 hours (until Wednesday morning),” Singh stated on Wednesday.
