As a result of yet another devastating knockout result, Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s hopes of winning an ICC championship were dashed. Both players have not participated in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) since India’s semifinal exit in Australia during the World Cup last year. This suggests that their careers in the shorter format may have reached their conclusion. Regardless of transient rumors, it is improbable that either of them will be selected to represent Australia in the T20 World Cup the following year. India has discovered a promising group of youthful players in Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, and Ruturaj Gaikwad; therefore, reverting to Rohit and Kohli could be detrimental to their progress.

The following major concern is the 50-over World Cup in 2027. Is Kohli set to play? By the time South Africa hosts the tournament, he will be 39 years old, which diminishes his chances. However, if David Warner is to be believed, Kohli may not only participate in the 2027 World Cup, but may also skip it until 2031, when India will once again host the tournament. At that point, Kohli will be 43 years old, but Warner believes he can continue for an additional eight years, given how much significance Virat places on his fitness.

“He is extremely fit and passionate about the sport; there is no reason why he can’t,” Warner responded to a fan post on X that wished Kohli would compete in the 2031 World Cup.

No contemporary Indian player has progressed to that point. In fact, Sachin Tendulkar is the only Indian to have exceeded 40 while stretching. The MS Dhoni continued until 39. CK At 40 years and 289 days, Nayudu is the second-eldest player to have participated in a Test match. Vinoo Mankad, at 41 years and 305 days, was the oldest to have done so; however, that was decades ago, when one-day internationals did not exist.

Additionally, Warner provided a rather amusing reply in response to a question regarding his intention to participate in the upcoming World Cup. In response to the inquiry, “Sir, do you intend to participate in the 2027 World Cup as well? “I would like to see you in that WC, please,” Warner replied sarcastically with the emoji ‘2031’ representing his response.

Notably, Australia and India will compete for the coveted mace at the Oval in London beginning on June 7th. The Australian leg-spinner further acknowledged what team India will bring to the table and that the crucial Test will feature two world-class bowling assaults going head-to-head.

“I think it’s wonderful. I have been – I won’t say critical – but I believe the series should consist of at least three Test matches. Two years of excellent cricket are followed by a neutral venue match against the opposition. Warner was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying, “We’ve all played here before, but this game is against a different [host] nation.”

“This is an excellent reward for the top two organizations. Two world-class bowling attacks bowling on foreign soil with a Dukes ball. That’s fantastic, and we’re thrilled about it. During the past 18 to 24 months, we’ve played some outstanding cricket. We are aware of India’s contributions to the table. It’s a wonderful neutral venue with two world-class bowling attacks using a Dukes ball, and I can’t wait to get out there as a batter,” he added.

Australia will compete in their first WTC summit match and will be eager to claim their first championship after failing to win the inaugural cycle in 2019-21. India, the runner-up of the previous edition, will also seek to end its ICC trophy drought.

The Australians have begun preparations in earnest as they have prioritized winning the prestigious mace as their top objective. After the conclusion of the WTC Final, Australia will focus on retaining the Ashes against their bitter rivals, England.

While David Warner has been a key member of the Test team since 2011, his position in the squad has been questioned for the past year and a half due to poor batting performances. Warner, 36, is currently preparing for the June 7 summit match against India at the Oval.

Later this month, Pat Cummins’s Australia will face England in a thrilling Ashes series after their match against India. The veteran batsman disclosed that while the 2024 T20 World Cup remains on his agenda, he may conclude his Test career with a home series against Pakistan in January of the following year, prior to the Windies series, in order to spend more time with his family.

“You are required to collect runs. I’ve always said that the T20 World Cup in 2024 would likely be my last contest. If I can score runs here and continue to play in Australia, I owe it to myself and my family to state that I will not be participating in the West Indies series. Warner told reporters in Beckenham on Saturday, “If I can get through this (WTC final and subsequent Ashes campaign) and the Pakistan series, I will definitely retire at that point.”

Warner to retire following the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Warner, a veteran of 103 Tests, is eighth on Australia’s all-time list of red-ball cricket run scorers and has been a phenomenal player for the national team in all formats. In the past few months, he has been dealing with controversies surrounding his leadership suspension, which has dampened his spirits. Despite the end of his Test career, the southpaw is looking forward to the 2023 and 2024 ODI and T20 World Cups.
