Chingam 1 2023: The festive season has arrived. This year’s Malayalam New Year is celebrated on August 17. Chingam 1, also referred to as Chingam Month or Chingam Masam, signifies the beginning of the Malayalam New Year, also known as Kollam Varsham. The date of Chingam 1 differs annually because the Malayalam calendar is based on the solar calendar system. On Chingam 1, the harvest season in Kerala begins and festivities commence. Chingam 1 is also the day that King Mahabali visits his subjects in Kerala, signalling the start of the Onam celebrations.

A new year marks the beginning of something fresh. Leaving the old year behind, we prepare to welcome the new year with greater opportunities and optimism. As we prepare to celebrate Chingam 1, here are some greetings, images, and messages you can send to your loved ones.

Cheerful Ch’am 1. May this year bring you and your family prosperity, hope, and fortune.

“Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come, whispering ‘it will be happier’…” Lord Alfred Tennyson
