Operation ‘Ajay’: On Friday morning, the 1st charter flight enroute to New Delhi to repatriate Indian citizens who were detained in Israel as a result of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict touched down.

On Friday morning, the initial charter flight enroute to extricate Indian nationals detained in Israel as a result of the ongoing conflict touched down in New Delhi. Under the auspices of “Operation Ajay,” the flight transporting 212 Indian passengers, including an infant, departed from the Ben Gurion airport in Israel on Thursday night. According to reports, the passengers were selected based on the principle of “first come, first served.”

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar uploaded images of the initial repatriation of detained citizens to X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday night with the caption: “Operation Ajay commences. The flight carrying 212 passengers is enroute to New Delhi.

‘Operation Ajay’ was initiated by the government on Wednesday in an effort to repatriate stranded citizens from Israel, where the terrorist organization Hamas is engaging in intense combat. This occurred subsequent to the cessation of commercial operations by Air India and other airlines to and from Israel on October 7, when the conflict broke out.

“Operation Ajay is being initiated to facilitate the repatriation of American citizens who desire to return from Israel. Special charter flights and additional provisions are being made. “Strongly dedicated to ensuring the security and welfare of our citizens while they are traveling abroad,” S. Jaishankar had declared on X.

The Indians will be retrieved by means of specially chartered aircraft as part of this operation; if necessary, Indian Navy vessels will also be mobilized.

Also read this:UK to send Navy ships, surveillance aircraft for Israel

Notably, there are approximately 18,000 Indian students, professionals, and merchants in Israel.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated in Kampala, Uganda, that India is attempting to include concerns of the Global South in the G20 framework during its presidency.

Jaishankar, who is visiting Uganda and Mozambique, addressed the Ugandan Parliamentary Forum on Indian Affairs on Tuesday.

“We (India) are doing it differently in the sense that no other chair of the G-20 has made an endeavor to consult all the countries of the Global South. So, what are your interests, and what do you desire? Which of your concerns may we raise on your behalf? In January, we went through a very, very detailed and very exhaustive exercise, he said.

The External Affairs Minister also stated that India intends to use its G-20 presidency to refocus the influential forum on its mandate of addressing global growth and development issues.

“Uganda was also a participant, of course. And today, we’d like to use the G-20 presidency to really get that forum to focus on what is its remedy, what was its mandate, namely global growth and global development issues, which are extremely essential to you. Green growth issues, debt issues, health issues, SDG issues, the development agenda, and digital delivery issues. These are the issues on which we would like the G-20 to concentrate, according to Jaishankar.

India assumed the G20 presidency for one year beginning on December 1 of last year. This year’s G20 summit will take place in New Delhi on September 9-10.

The External Affairs Minister reaffirmed India’s complete support for Uganda’s very successful Non-Alignment Movement chairmanship.

The Non-Aligned Movement will be chaired by Uganda on behalf of Africa between 2022 and 2025.

The position of NAM chair alternates every three years at summit conferences. The movement’s chair is assisted by both the outgoing and incoming chairmen. This structure, according to the movement, represents its past, present, and future.

Jaishnkar also announced that he will participate in the inaugural of the first campus of the National Forensic Research University in Uganda.

The minister, who is visiting two countries between April 10 and 15, participated in the virtual groundbreaking ceremony for solar-powered conduit drinking water supply systems funded by India Exim Bank on Tuesday in Uganda.

Jaishankar tweeted, “This project will provide a safe and sustainable water supply to 500,000 Ugandans across 20 rural districts.”

Jaishankar later encountered the Indian commercial community in Uganda.

“Appreciated their contribution to the bilateral relationship between India and Uganda. Jaishankar tweeted that he had “encouraged them to continue building the bridge of our business ties that capture the growth and development of the two countries.”

Jaishankar will be in Mozambique between the 13th and 15th of April. The MEA release stated, “This will be the first-ever visit by an External Affairs Minister of India to the Republic of Mozambique.”

During the visit, he will meet with Mozambique’s senior leadership and co-chair the 5th Session of the Joint Commission Meeting with Veronica Macamo, Mozambique’s foreign minister.

The EAM is anticipated to meet with a number of other ministers and representatives of the Mozambican National Assembly.

Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Melanie Joly, is returning to New Delhi for the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, less than a month after a bilateral visit to the Indian capital.

She will also participate in the Raisina Dialogue, which will be co-hosted by the Observer Research Foundation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Joly will spend Wednesday through Friday in India.

“As the world continues to face inflation, the rising cost of living, and supply chain disruptions exacerbated by Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, it has never been more important for G20 and Indo-Pacific partners to demonstrate our determination to make a real and lasting difference. Collectively, we must confront global challenges and create a better future for all. “Canada welcomes India’s G20 Presidency and its leadership in organising the Raisina Dialogue,” she said in a statement released by Global Affairs Canada on Tuesday.

The release states that she will “discuss India’s G20 agenda under the theme of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future,’ with an emphasis on accelerating progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2023.”

According to the press release, the situation in Ukraine will be a major focus: “She will address the acute challenges millions face around the world, which are exacerbated by Russia’s unjustified and illegal war against Ukraine.”

She will participate in a panel discussion at the Raisina Dialogue on the future of the G20 in a world in flux.

“During her visit, Minister Joly will also emphasise the significance of an open, free, and secure Indo-Pacific as Canada continues to expand and invest in the region, creating more opportunities and building more bridges in accordance with its Indo-Pacific Strategy,” the statement continued.

In February, Melanie Joly visited New Delhi for two days, the highlight of which was a bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

Maninder Sidhu, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, is in India to “engage with business leaders and civil society partners on strengthening ties between Canada and India in accordance with Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy,” according to Joly.

“Canada and India have a long history of close interpersonal ties and a shared desire to expand their trade and investment relationship. Sidhu, an Indo-Canadian, said in a statement that a strong bilateral relationship and Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy are creating new opportunities for economic advancement and prosperity.
