C-130J aircraft from the Indian Air Force have arrived in Sudan to evacuate displaced Indians as the evacuation process continues in the violence-stricken North African nation.

“Operation Kaveri has taken to the air. IAF C-130J aircraft lands in Port Sudan to conduct evacuation operations,” Bagchi tweeted as he provided the relevant information.

In the first phase of “Operation Kaveri,” Indians isolated in Sudan left the war-torn country earlier today (local time). The third Saryu-class patrol vessel of the Indian Navy, INS Sumedha, departed Port Sudan for Jeddah with 278 personnel on board.

In addition, on Tuesday, Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan inspected the transit facility at the International Indian School in Jeddah, where Indians evacuated from Sudan will be received and temporarily housed prior to their arrival in India.

INS Teg of the Indian Navy joined Operation Kaveri on Tuesday to assist with the ongoing evacuation of Indians detained in Sudan. According to a senior MEA official, the frigate arrived at Port Sudan on Tuesday with additional officials and essential relief provisions for stranded Indians.

“INS Teg joins #OperationKaveri. Arrives at Port Sudan with additional officials and essential relief supplies for stranded Indians,” tweeted the official spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday.

The INS Teg is the fourth frigate of the Talwar-class constructed for the Indian Navy.

In a recent development, warring factions in Sudan consented to a 72-hour ceasefire on Monday, mediated by the United States and Saudi Arabia, while countries continue to evacuate their citizens.

WHAT IS HTT-40?

The HTT-40 is a turboprop aircraft designed for improved training effectiveness and low-speed manoeuvrability. It possesses a fully aerobatic tandem seat turbo trainer with an air-conditioned cockpit, contemporary avionics, hot refuelling, running change over, and zero-zero ejection seats.

The aircraft is anticipated to alleviate the IAF’s lack of basic trainer aircraft necessary for training newly-inducted pilots. As an indigenous solution, the aircraft is capable of being upgraded to meet the IAF’s future needs. The acquisition will encompass supplementary equipment, training aids, and simulators.

Through the indigenisation of major components and subsystems, the indigenous content of the HTT-40 would increase to over 60 percent. The HAL’s supply chain would include Indian private industry, including MSMEs.

It is anticipated that procurement will generate direct employment for approximately 1,500 individuals and indirect employment for up to 3,000 individuals across more than 100 MSMEs.

Saturday, 110 air warriors from the IAF arrived at the Al Dhafra air base in the UAE to participate in Exercise Desert Flag VIII, according to the IAF.

The scheduled date range is from February 27 to March 17.

Air forces from the United Arab Emirates, France, Kuwait, Australia, the United Kingdom, Bahrain, Morocco, Spain, the Republic of Korea, and the United States would participate in the multilateral air exercise Desert Flag.

“This will be the first time the LCA Tejas jets participates in an international flying exercise outside of India. The IAF stated in a statement that the purpose of the exercise is to participate in a variety of fighter engagements and learn from the best practises of other air forces.

LCA Tejas was to make its debut in a foreign air exercise last year. Due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, participation in the multinational air exercise Cobra Warrior 22 at Waddington in the United Kingdom was cancelled. The LCA has participated in several air shows abroad, but has never participated in a foreign combat exercise.

India believes that the aircraft’s export potential is favourable.

In addition, India is in negotiations with Egypt and Argentina for the possible sale of the fighter aircraft to their air forces, as the nation focuses on gaining a foothold in foreign markets and increasing its defence exports. India has set a goal of achieving $5 billion in defence exports by 2025.

IAF has inducted a number of the 40 earlier variants of LCA, ordered 83 improved Mk-1A variants in 2021, and is now considering ordering the aircraft’s newest variant, LCA Mk-2.

In 2021, the union defence ministry awarded Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) a 48,000-crore contract for 83 LCA Mk-1A jets for the IAF. The first Mk-1A aircraft is scheduled to be delivered to the air force in February 2024, with the remainder joining the combat fleet by 2029.

Teams from the Indian Air Force (IAF) looked at and studied the place in Pahargarh where the pieces of the two fighter jets crashed on Saturday.

During a training mission in Morena, two of the IAF’s best fighter planes crashed, killing a wing commander and sending two other pilots to safety.

“The Mirage plane’s black box was found in the area of Pahargarh, Morena, where the plane crashed. A piece of the Sukhoi plane’s black box has also been found, and it’s possible that the rest of the recorder fell in Bharatpur “Ashutosh Bagri, the police chief in Morena, told the Press Trust of India over the phone. “The IAF, the police, and other agencies are looking for the last piece of the Sukhoi plane’s recorder,” he said.

A “black box,” also called a “flight data recorder,” is an electronic device that is put in an aeroplane and helps figure out what happened in an accident.

Defense experts think that the Russian-made Sukhoi-30MKI jet and the French-made Mirage-2000 may have collided in the air, but the IAF hasn’t said anything about what caused the crash.

Both of the jets left the Gwalior Air Force station. There are both Sukhoi-30MKI and Mirage 2000 jet squadrons at the base. The SU-30MKI is a two-seater fighter jet, while the single-seater Mirage 2000 is made by the French aerospace company Dassault Aviation.

Saturday, Morena Collector Ankit Asthana said that pieces of both planes fell in the Pahargarh area of the district and in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, which is next to Madhya Pradesh.

During the collision, the Su-30 had a total of two pilots, while the Mirage 2000 only had one. According to preliminary accounts, two of the pilots escaped unharmed while the third was fatally injured,” sources stated.
