According to a report by Geo News, Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, has expressed concerns regarding her husband’s safety and security, stating that he ‘may be poisoned’ while he is being held at Attock Jail.

Bushra Bibi notified the Punjab home secretary in a letter that the court had ordered her husband’s transfer to the Adiala prison in Rawalpindi.

She stated, “My spouse has been unlawfully incarcerated in Attock jail. The law requires that my spouse be transferred to the Adiala jail.”

Geo News reported that former prime minister Imran Khan was arrested earlier this month after a court sentenced him to three years in prison in the Toshakhana case involving the sale of state presents he received from foreign dignitaries during his tenure as prime minister from 2018 to 22.

Khan was also banned from politics for a period of five years.

In her letter, Bushra Bibi demanded that the PTI chief be provided with B-class prison facilities commensurate with his social and political stature as an Oxford graduate and former national cricket captain.

In addition, Bushra Bibi stated that Khan had been the target of two assassination attempts in the past, but that the perpetrators had not yet been apprehended.

“His (Imran Khan) life is still in danger, and there is a fear that my husband will be poisoned in Attock jail,” she wrote.

According to Geo News, as a former prime minister of the country, she stated that her husband should be permitted to consume home-cooked meals in prison.

In reference to the prison manual, the former first lady stated that Khan was supposed to receive all facilities within 48 hours, but they had not been provided after 12 days.

“According to the prison regulations, my husband has the right to be examined by a private physician,” she said, demanding an investigation into why the PTI leader was not provided with the necessary facilities.

In addition, last week the PTI Core Committee expressed similar concerns that Imran Khan might suffer from’slow poisoning’ and requested that he be provided with domestic food and water.

In addition, the meeting of the committee firmly condemned the “inordinate delay” in allowing Khan to receive food and water from home, despite the possibility that he may have suffered from food poisoning.

With Imran Khan’s sentencing and detained in a corruption case on Saturday, Pakistan has maintained its reputation for imprisoning former prime ministers while avoiding taking action against military dictators who have repeatedly violated the Constitution.

Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, was detained from his residence in Lahore’s Zaman Park after an Islamabad-based sessions court sentenced him to three years in prison for concealing the proceeds from the sale of state gifts from the Toshakhana.

The Toshakhana is a Cabinet Division department that stores gifts provided to rulers and government officials by foreign dignitaries and heads of other governments. Khan purchased and resold several presents, including a valuable watch given to him by the Saudi crown prince.

The 70-year-old leader was authorised to purchase the gifts from Toshakhana and conduct the sale, but he neglected to inform the Election Commission of Pakistan about the money he made, a violation of the law for which he was charged with concealment.

Khan might have gotten away with a warning or a fine in better times, but he ran out of luck when he fell out with the potent military establishment, which led to his removal from office in April of last year.

Khan is not the first Pakistani prime minister to end up in prison; the country’s sordid history is replete with unenviable examples of the treatment of elected leaders.

Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy, a Bengali politician from East Pakistan who served as the fifth prime minister, is first on the list. In January 1962, he was arrested and imprisoned on false allegations of “anti-state activities.” Actual transgression was his refusal to support military dictator General Ayub Khan.

In 1974, the ninth prime minister, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was arrested on allegations of conspiracy to murder a political opponent. He was given a death sentence and executed on April 4, 1979.

Benazir Bhutto served twice as prime minister, from 1988 to 1990 and 1993 to 1996. The country’s only female prime minister was detained multiple times, beginning in 1985 with a 90-day house arrest.

In August 1986, she was detained in Karachi for speaking out against the military dictator Ziaul Haq. In April 1999, she was sentenced to five years in prison, disqualified, and fined more than 5 million pounds for corruption. She evaded arrest by living in self-imposed exile.

Nawaz Sharif was detained in 1999, following the takeover by General Pervez Musharraf, and then exiled for a decade.

In July 2018, he and his daughter Maryam Nawaz were sentenced to 10 years in prison for corruption. In December of the same year, he was sentenced to seven years in prison for corruption at Al-Azizia Steel Mills. In 2019, he travelled to London for medical treatment and never returned.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was arrested in July 2019 in connection with a corruption case involving Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), but was subsequently released on bail.

Imran Khan was also detained on May 9, 2023 in another corruption case, but was released a few days later after the Supreme Court intervened. In the Toshakhana case, he was sentenced to three years in prison on August 5, 2023.

Hamid Mir, a renowned journalist and anchor for Geo News, stated, in response to his conviction and detention, that he was not the first prime minister to be imprisoned and may not be the last.

“First Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy, then Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, then Benazir Bhutto, then Nawaz Sharif, and most recently Imran Khan. Politicians and prime ministers are always punished, he tweeted.

In addition, he stated that no Pakistani prime minister has ever completed a full five-year term.

In distinct contrast, none of the four military dictators — Auyb Khan, Yahya Khan, Ziaul Haq, and Pervez Musharraf — were brought to justice for overthrowing democratically elected governments and subverting the Constitution.

President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party and close aide to former prime minister Imran Khan, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, was arrested outside his residence on Thursday, according to the party.

“It is disgraceful that the regime does not cease its totalitarianism. The inflation rate has skyrocketed to 38%, prompting the detention of the former chief minister of Punjab, Parvez Elahi. “Absurd!” the party tweeted alongside a video showing the 77-year-old leader being taken from his residence, Zahoor Elahi, by security personnel.

Elahi’s spokesperson Iqbal Chaudhry told the Dawn newspaper that the former chief minister of Punjab was arrested as he was departing his home.

The spokesperson claimed that authorities “misbehaved” with the women accompanying Elahi, who had evaded capture since May 9.

On May 26, a Lahore district court issued an arrest warrant without parole for Elahi.

“The accused’s pre-arrest parole was revoked due to lack of prosecution by order dated May 25, and he is not appearing in court or cooperating with the investigation. In light of the IO’s request, non-bailable arrest warrants for Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi are to be issued on June 2, 2023, according to the court order.

The alleged audio release occurred immediately after the Supreme Court ruled that Khan’s arrest was “invalid and unlawful.” The Supreme Court ruled that the former prime minister’s detention was unlawful and ordered him to appear before the IHC at 11 a.m. tomorrow. It also stated that Imran would be held at the Police Lines Guest House, where he had been held previously, and instructed the government to ensure the PTI chief’s safety.

In the audio, which was posted by journalist Murtaza Shah, a voice believed to be that of Imran could be heard instructing Cheema to approach the apex court, ostensibly in opposition to his arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

In the purported audio conversation that surfaced online earlier today, the PTI chief instructed Cheema to instruct Senator Azam Swati to challenge his arrest before the Supreme Court.

In the video — which features portraits of Imran and Cheema with accompanying text in Urdu indicating that it was recorded on May 10 — a voice assumed to be that of the PTI chief asks Cheema if “they had received the message,” to which Cheema responds that his message had been delivered. “We have told the high court that we will not leave until NAB produces you in court,” she says, as reported by Dawn.

Imran then allegedly informs Cheema, “Also tell Azam Swati to approach the Supreme Court… because everything they’ve done is null and void” He was also heard asking, “What is the chief justice doing?” before stating, “He does not issue correct orders.”

ALSO READ :West Bengal CM wants “diploma doctors” for primary care to overcome “shortfall”

The individual identified as Imran reiterates: “Speak with Azam.”

According to Dawn, PTI leader Hammad Azhar stated that the audio release was altered.

“This purported audio release mentions the chief justice of the IHC and not the Supreme Court. And this new revision is based on a conversation that occurred two days ago when Imran Khan was present in the IHC,” he tweeted.

“Authorities must realize that such actions accomplish nothing. The most pressing concern is the restoration of democracy and adherence to the Constitution,” Azhar said.

Numerous audio releases featuring prominent government and opposition figures, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PTI Chairman Imran Khan, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, and others, have emerged on social media in recent weeks.

The clips, which appeared to contain casual dialogues, had raised grave security concerns regarding government offices, particularly the Prime Minister’s Office.

Prime Minister Shehbaz termed the disclosure of audio leaks a “very serious lapse” and announced the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the matter.

Tilak Devasher, a member of the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB) and security expert, stated that India must be “vigilant” in the aftermath of the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, as the PTI will attempt to “divert attention” from events in Pakistan.

In an exclusive interview ,Tilak Devasher made the above comments hours after Imran Khan was detained in Pakistan by Rangers outside the Islamabad High Court on a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) warrant in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

“I believe that what transpires in Pakistan in the next week, next few days, or next week will determine what happens in Pakistan for at least the next couple of months,” he added.

The NSAB agent also referred to Khan’s detention as a significant development in Pakistan, stating, “This is something that has been anticipated for quite some time. Even though they had an arrest warrant, the police attempted to apprehend him in Zaman Park a couple of months ago. But his supporters refused to let the police in, and the police retreated.”

The defence expert responded to a second query about the political future of Imran Khan and the PTI party by stating, “You see, now everything depends. Now that he has been apprehended, the case is proceeding. Does the case provide him with relief? Is the case thrown out? Will they use this to prevent him from running for office?”

“If this occurs, it would be a significant blow to the PTI, as what is the PTI without Imran Khan? Without Imran Khan, the party will be unable to perform well in upcoming or future elections. This is a significant, significant development. We will have to observe how this case actually develops. Does he receive bail, and as a result of his detention, is he disqualified by the election commission?”

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Islamabad High Court deemed Imran Khan’s detention to be “legal,” as reported by Geo News.

When asked if there will be widespread outrage in Pakistan given the PTI’s claims that Imran Khan was abducted by Rangers, Devasher responded, “You see, regardless of how he was arrested, there will be an outcry in Pakistan due to his popularity and his supporters in all the provinces. It will be in the PTI’s best interest to claim that he was abducted and beaten.”

He also explained that the Rangers did so in an effort to swiftly remove him in order to prevent pandemonium among his supporters.

“However, whether it was true or not, if the Rangers had a valid arrest warrant issued by a court, he is immediately apprehended. And I believe the Rangers’ objective was to swiftly remove him before the masses gathered and prevented his removal. Therefore, I believe that is less significant than the fact that he has been apprehended. This will inevitably result in outrage and clamor throughout Pakistan,” the defense expert added.

Imran Khan was detained outside the IHC on Tuesday afternoon by a group of Ranger personnel. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has termed Khan’s detention a fascist act and called on its supporters to take to the streets in large numbers to express their outrage over the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) asserts that police executed a search warrant at the domicile of PTI leader Usman Dar. According to the party, the mother of the Dar brothers was harassed by breaching the four walls’ sanctity.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf tweeted on its official Twitter account, “Sialkot: Police raided the domicile of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Usman Dar. By violating the sanctity of the chador and the four walls, the mother of the brothers Dar was harassed. The PTI also tweeted images of the residence.

The development follows Tuesday’s detention of the former Pakistani prime minister, Imran Khan. Rangers apprehended Imran Khan outside the Islamabad High Court on a warrant issued by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Al-Qadir Trust case. After his detention, PTI employees across the nation protested and demanded his release.

Aftab Siddiqui, president of PTI Karachi, has announced protests in Karachi. He urged the citizens of Karachi to observe the closure for PTI chairman Imran Khan and Pakistan.

A few hours ago, Hassaan Niazi, the leader of the PTI, tweeted, “Core commander residence in Lahore is surrounded by all chowks. Protesters have decided to spend the night here. All Cantt checkpoints were empty. Concerning public rage. PTI employees are attempting to calm the public, but the wrath is too great.”

Geo News reported that PTI employees demonstrated in cities across the nation, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Peshawar, and Mardan. In Karachi, protesters and police fought near Nursery. They threw rocks at police vehicles and destroyed street lamps.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry announced on Wednesday that the party will challenge the Islamabad High Court’s decision to uphold party chairman Imran Khan’s arrest before the Supreme Court this morning. Fawad Chaudhry described the decision of the Islamabad High Court as “surprising.”

He tweeted, “It is surprising that the Islamabad High Court has deemed the arrest of Imran Khan to be legal; the arrest of Imran Khan without a bail decision prior to his arrest is illegal, and this decision is being challenged this morning in the Supreme Court.”

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has instructed party leaders, employees, and supporters to assemble at the Islamabad Judicial Complex at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf announced on its official Twitter account, “Important instructions from the party leadership: Senior leadership of Tehreek-e-Insaf and employees and supporters of Islamabad will arrive at Judicial Complex Islamabad at 8 a.m. The ongoing sit-ins and protests will continue at their respective locations across the nation until Imran Khan is released.”

Press reported that former Pakistani PM Imran Khan stated that the Taliban will not respect human rights, including the right of women to education, until they are recognized internationally.

Imran Khan stated that the Taliban should be integrated into the international community before discussing human rights and the education of females, according to a media cited by the press.

“What influence will you have over the Taliban if you isolate them?” If you legitimate them and grant them a state, then you can discuss human rights. Imran Khan was quoted by the Press as saying in an interview: “Right now, you push them on isolation; their money is frozen, so why would they listen?”

Imran Khan, chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stated, “My advice is to get them involved and give them a stake in the international community so that when you tell them to educate girls, they will listen; currently, they are not.”

Afghanistan is experiencing a human rights crisis at the time of Imran Khan’s remarks. Afghan women have demanded that the Taliban reopen secondary schools for Afghan females. Imran Khan has previously requested that the international community recognize the Taliban.

Earlier in 2022, Imran Khan, who was then Pakistan’s PM imran khan , stated that there is “no alternative to the Taliban in Afghanistan” and that the “world’s only option to move forward is to engage with the Taliban.”

Imran Khan, speaking about Pakistan’s diplomatic ties with the Taliban in Afghanistan in an exclusive interview with Fareed Zakaria for the media, stated that the Taliban must be recognized by the international community for the well-being and future of approximately 40 million Afghans.

“Afghanistan is on the verge of experiencing the worst humanitarian crisis,” stated the prime minister, Imran Khan. “Under the given conditions, is there any alternative to the Taliban in Afghanistan? “No, there isn’t,” said Imran Khan.

“Forty million Afghans are in dire straits as a result of the current situation in the country,” Khan stated. He added that Americans should realize that disliking the Taliban is one thing, but thinking about the people of Afghanistan, who are confronting “extreme difficulties,” is another.

Imran Khan referred to cooperation with the Taliban as the “only alternative” for the welfare of Afghans, stating that excluding the Taliban would only result in anarchy in the country. He urged the international community to liberate Afghanistan’s frozen assets and provide humanitarian aid to prevent the country’s “economic collapse.”

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah was quoted by Geo News as saying that a high-level joint investigation team (JIT) has been established to investigate four cases filed against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan and his supporters for allegedly attacking courts and law enforcement, committing vandalism, and obstructing court operations.

The Joint Investigation Team is led by the Additional Inspector General of Police Special Branch Punjab, Zulfiqar Hameed, and consists of representatives from Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Military Intelligence (MI), and DIG Headquarters Islamabad, Awais Ahmad.

Former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan has claimed that he could be killed during court depositions and has asked the chief justice to enable him to appear virtually. On Monday, the Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) claimed that a “death trap” had been set up at the Federal Judicial Complex (FJC), where he arrived on Saturday to attend a hearing in the Toshakhana case.

According to The Dawn, the cricketer-turned-politician claimed that “na maloom afraad” (unknown individuals) were stationed outside to kill him. In a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandial, the embattled PTI leader requested that the cases filed against him be consolidated.

Imran Khan was in the crosshairs for purchasing gifts, including a costly Graff wristwatch, at a discount from the state depository known as Toshakhana and reselling them for a profit.

The Election Commission of Pakistan also disqualified him for failing to disclose the details of the case. The election body later lodged a criminal complaint against Khan with the district court, but Khan has ignored multiple court summonses in the case.

Shortly I will expose how I almost walked into a death trap & the plot to kill me in the Judicial Complex; and how Almighty Allah saved me in the nick of time.

— Imran Khan (@ImranKhanPTI) March 20, 2023

On the Saturday before last, when Khan went to the Islamabad high court to be heard in the Toshakhana case, there was high drama outside the court. Due to clashes between Islamabad Police and PTI workers outside the judicial complex, his arrest warrant was revoked after ADSJ Zafar Iqbal allowed him to depart after noting his presence in court.

Imran Khan has been charged with terrorism, murder, blasphemy, attempted murder, and treason in close to 100 cases.

‘DEATH TRAP WAS LAID’

“On Saturday, a death trap was set up at the Federal Judicial Complex in Islamabad, where I had to appear for a hearing in the Toshakhana gifts case. “About 20 namaloom afraad (unknown people) — a reference to men from intelligence agencies — were present in the complex to assassinate me,” Khan said in a Monday address to the nation.

“It was not to imprison me, but to murder me. If I continue to be exposed in this manner, it won’t be long before they succeed, and then who will be responsible?” he asked.During his address, he also played a video showing alleged suspects in civilian attire present at the courthouse wearing plastic restraints, according to PTI. He claimed that these individuals intended to strangle Khan with the rope they held.

Imran Khan has also requested that the CJP investigate how these 20 or so “unknown individuals” were able to access the high-security zone. (judicial complex).

Khan continued his tirade against the Shehbaz-Shariff government by stating, “Attempts are being made to pit my party against the army, and the PMLN-led coalition government is doing everything it can to turn the army against me and the PTI.”
