IND vs AUS 2nd ODI Highlights:

IND vs AUS 2nd ODI Highlights: Mitchell Starc exploited favourable conditions to capture 5 for 53 as Australia bowled out India for a meagre 117 in 26 overs in the second one-day international on Sunday. Starc’s ninth five-wicket haul in ODIs, along with stellar performances from Sean Abbott (3/23) and Nathan Ellis (2/13), gave Indian batsmen no opportunity to settle with the ball seaming and swinging wildly. Only Virat Kohli (31) and Axar Patel (29 not out) scored over 20 runs.

Again, all attention will be on KL Rahul’s bat, which struggled in the Border-Gavaskar series. In a low-scoring encounter at Wankhede, where India defeated Australia by five wickets, he scored 75 runs while remaining unbeaten.

The outcome of the second one-day international will also depend on the weather at Vizag today, where intermittent thunderstorms are predicted for at least the first half.

Travis Head: Nice to contribute, really good to get a partnership going. We were a bit settled today and took our time. Last game, I went hard early to push the envelope. It’s nice to have the big fellow (Marsh) at the other end when he hits them into the top-tier. We were hoping that one of us gets away. It’s very rare that both of us go at the same time. Throughout my experience opening the batting, if one guy is going, you try to support that. Today it was a short total, we both felt like going. We played really calculated. It was a nice partnership, very enjoyable.

Mitchell Marsh: It was a bit of fun. Always nice to get a good start when you’re chasing a small total like that. I was hoping Head would get off to a flier and I could play it slow. To be honest, I’ve been enjoying playing swing and batting up the order. (On Starc) He’s been brilliant, it is horrible standing at slip when he bowls because it flies at about 80 miles an hour off the edge. But it is great to see him bowl like this, we now have a rare chance to win an away series in India.

India vs Australia, 4th Test Day 4 Highlights: It was Virat Kohli’s day in Ahmedabad, as the batting superstar enthralled the thousands of fans who had gathered to witness the fourth and final Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test on Sunday. Kohli lost out on a double century, which would have been his eighth in Tests, but he scored his highest total against Australia.

In addition to concluding his 1204-day wait for a Test century, Virat Kohli helped eliminate the possibility of an Indian loss in the final match of the series after Australia scored 480 runs in the first innings. Kohli played a risk-free innings of 186 as India posted 571, securing a 91-run lead in the final session of Day 4 of a Test that has moved at a snail’s pace thus far.

India vs Australia, 4th Test Day 4 Highlights:

Australia, who sent nightwatchman Matthew Kuhnemann and Travis Head to open the inning, endured a few tense moments as they went to the Stumps at 3 for 0 and still trailing by 88 runs.

When Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin bowled 5 overs between them in the final 30 minutes of Day 4, the pitch at Narendra Modi Stadium, which had been docile until that point, began to play pranks. In fact, KS Bharat dropped Kuhnemann in the penultimate over of the day because Ashwin’s carrom-ball failed to produce the desired result.

India’s batting confidence was low after the first three Tests were contested on slow-turning pitches. And when Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green scored hundreds for Australia, India came under duress. To the delight of the local crowd, India’s batting unit, particularly the top order, stepped up with centuries from the young Shubman Gill and the veteran Virat Kohli.

Cheteshwar Pujara (42), KS Bharat (44), and Axar Patel (79) made significant contributions as India batsmen forced Australian bowlers to work hard for their wickets over two days in Ahmedabad’s scorching heat. Shreyas Iyer was unavailable to bat for India on Day 4, as the middle-order batsman was scanned for a possible back injury.

Regarding the field at the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, there has been considerable outside discussion. Prior to the start of the series, a number of Australian media outlets and former cricketers accused India of “doctoring” the Nagpur track. During the Delhi Test, discussions regarding India’s ability to produce world-class spinners were comparatively subdued, but as the action shifted to Indore, the topic reemerged as a focal point.

Aside from the field, the former cricketers have frequently expressed harsh criticism of the current team. One of the numerous incidents involved the Australian legend Allan Border lashing out at Steve Smith, who innocently gave the bowler a thumbs-up after a delivery beat his outside edge. Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden had also criticised the team for their disappointing performance in the series opener.

ALSO READ : IND vs AUS: The pitch offered more spin than anticipated, according to batting coach Vikram Rathour.

Sunil Gavaskar, however, believes that rather than pointing fingers at the players, the ex-cricketers should question the Australian selectors. Josh Hazlewood, who was ruled out of the first Test due to an Achilles injury, was cited by Gavaskar as an illustration of the shortcomings of the selectors. He also presented Mitchell Starc’s case. While Starc was included in the playing XI for the third match in Indore, Hazlewood has yet to appear in the series.

While ex-Australian players on various media platforms are criticising their current teammates, the true targets should be the Australian selectors. How could they select three players (Hazlewood, Starc, and Cameron Green) who would be unavailable for the first two Test matches? That is, the team management had only 13 players to choose from for the first half of the series.

“Then they bring in a new player (Matthew Kuhnemann) when they already had a similar player. Why did they select him in the first place if they didn’t believe he was competent enough? That meant the squad management was selecting 11 players from a pool of 12. Ridiculous. Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar that the selectors should resign if they have any sense of responsibility, even if Australia makes a remarkable comeback and wins the next two Tests to level the series.

Returning to the series, each of the three Tests played thus far have been completed within three days. Australia made a stunning revival under stand-in captain Steve Smith and won the third Test by nine wickets. India won the first two by a wide margin. Australia’s victory also earned them a spot in the World Test Championship final, which will be contested at The Oval in June. India, on the other hand, will be hoping for a win in the final match in Ahmedabad; if they are successful, they will join Australia in the final.

Cheteshwar Pujara is playing his 100th match in the ongoing second Test between India and Australia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Pujara is just the third Indian cricketer in history to accomplish this.

Saturday, however, did not go as planned for Pujara, as he was dismissed without scoring a run in the first innings (February 28). Pujara was one of the five wickets taken by Nathan Lyon, which included India’s first four and placed Australia in the lead.

With his failure, Pujara established an unwelcome record and became the eighth player in the annals of cricket to score zero in their 100th Test. Pujara is the second Indian to make the uncommon list, following Dilip Vengsarkar. In addition to the Indian pair, Mark Taylor, Allan Border, Brendon McCullum, Stephen Fleming, and Alastair Cook were unable to score in their 100th Test.

Due to Pujara’s low score, India found itself in dire straits with a score of 137-7. However, a century-long partnership between Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin ensured that India scored 262 runs while Australia only led by 1 run. Axar Patel scored the most runs for India with 74, while Virat Kohli scored 44. Ashwin contributed 37 crucial runs.

On the first day of the tournament, Sunil Gavaskar, an Indian cricket legend, presented Pujara with a commemorative cap prior to the commencement of play. As India entered the field prior to the start of the match, the complete Indian team presented Pujara with a guard of honour.

India faces a difficult pursuit, so Pujara will attempt to make amends in the second innings.

IND vs AUS:Wednesday, batting coach Vikram Rathour asserted that despite spin being one of India’s strengths, the team failed to account for the excessive turn on offer because it was a bad day at the office.

India were bowled out for 109 in less than one session on the opening day of the third Test, with Australian left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann taking 5 for 16.

On the same pitch, the visitors reached 156 for four at the end of the first day and carried a 47-run lead into the second.

The squareness of the ball during the first hour of play drew a great deal of criticism regarding the nature of the playing surface.

However, Rathour insisted that the team’s strength remains playing on turners at home.

“It is a difficult pitch, no doubt. More than we had anticipated. Possibly due to the humidity, the ball turned sharply in the morning. Certainly, we could have scored more runs, but I don’t believe anyone played careless or reckless cricket. We just had a bad day as a batting unit,” Rathour stated to the media.

When asked about the risk of playing on turners, Rathour stated that the team’s strength remains despite the possibility of being on the receiving end.

“It is possible to get out as a batting unit on occasion, but we prefer playing on turning tracks. This is our greatest strength and where we excel as a team. To be fair, this wicket is unique.

“I don’t believe the first two wickets were bad. We observed that it may be drier than we had anticipated. On the first day of the test match, it significantly exceeded our expectations.

“In fairness to curators. They barely had time to set up the pitch. It is a relatively late decision that the game will be moved from Dharamsala, as Ranji season has already concluded. They did not have sufficient time, the former India opener said.

Rathour believed that the wicket may have become easier as the day wore on. Usman Khawaja was the best batsman for Australia, scoring 60 runs off 147 balls.

It appeared to be that (that wicket eased out). I will be unable to comment on that matter. The players in the middle position can tell you more about this. Later in the day, time seemed to pass more slowly. It was not as sharply turning as it had been in the morning.” When asked whether the batters deviated from their plans, Rathour responded in the negative.

“Not at all. Plan was to rely on defence, wait for loose balls, and score as many runs as possible. It was one of those days where everything you did was out of your control (of fielders). “We simply had a bad day,” he explained.

In the Delhi Test, Australia was guilty of playing overly aggressive cricket. On Wednesday, players such as Rohit Sharma, Shrees Iyer, and Ravindra Jadeja fell attempting strokes.

Cheteshwar Pujara attempted to score off a ripper but turned sharply back from off-stump.

“That was an error in length estimation. He (Pujara) saw a ball outside off stump and expected it to travel in a straighter direction, but it curved. It was a common error in judgement. Rohit bats in this manner because he enjoys taking the initiative and scoring runs. “On most days it works, but not today,” said the batting coach.

Since the WTC began, the pressure to win home games has increased.

Since the WTC began in 2019, teams feel additional pressure to win at home due to the points system that determines qualification for the summit clash, according to Rathour.

“It is entirely ICC’s decision” (if they want neutral curators). However, since the WTC began, the pressure to win more home games has increased. Teams are motivated to win when playing at home. On turners, India’s batters have frequently been criticised, but Rathour disagrees.

“I don’t believe so. These are difficult pitches. We as a team want to play on tracks with turns. To score runs, you must bat exceptionally well. The batters performed admirably (in the series). Virat’s performance in the previous match was exceptional, and he continued that trend in today’s match. In addition to Rohit, Jadeja and Axar have played well.”

Australia taking the first innings is not a major concern.

Rathour is unconcerned about Australia’s 47-run lead, as they bat last on this pitch and batted first in the previous match.

“Because they will need to bat fourth on this surface, taking the lead is less of a concern.” Now the challenge is to maintain them at the lowest levels possible. “We must bat well in the second inning,” Rathour said.

IND vs AUS 2nd Test Day 3 Highlights: The peak of Ravindra Jadeja’s career On Sunday, India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 2-0 lead in the four-match series after defeating Australia by six wickets in three days during the second test. As a result, India took a 2-0 lead in the four-match series. In their second innings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin (3-59) reduced Australia to a meagre 113 runs, a career-high for Jadeja.

India’s top order faltered while chasing 115 to win, but their victory, which came in the second session of the third day, was never in doubt. In his 100th Test, Rohit Sharma scored 31 and Cheteshwar Pujara scores 31 not out for the winning run.

IND vs AUS 2nd Test brief scorecard

Australia: 263 and 113 all out in 31.1 overs (Travis Head 43, Marnus Labuschagne 35; Ravindra Jadeja 7/42, Ravichandran Ashwin 3/59)

India: 262 and 118 for 6 in 26.4 overs (Rohit Sharma 31, Cheteshwar Pujara 31 not out; Nathan Lyon 2/49)

What Pujara said while talking to broadcasters!

On playing his 100th Test: Yeah, it has been a great Test match. Unfortunately, I didn’t get many runs in the first innings. I knew that if I stayed in the crease for a while and played initial balls well, I could do well. It is a special feeling when your family watches you playing the 100th game. I am really happy about the occasion. I was really happy them seeing me finish off the match with a boundary.

On Saurashtra winning the Ranji Trophy: Happy for the boys of Saurashtra for winning the Ranji Trophy. I did have an eye on the proceedings till lunch but couldn’t see what happened afterwards. Congratulations to all the Saurashtra boys.

On yesterday’s last session: I thought we might end up chasing 200-250. But kudos to our bowlers for restricting them to such a low score.

On playing sweep shot on this pitch: Sweep is not an ideal shot to play with low bounce, but I’ve worked on it. With my game, I use my feet well and try to judge length as early as possible. I’ve always done that throughout my career. Not really, it was the initial phase when you walk out to bat. Some balls spun and some went straighter. Once you play 30-40 balls, it’s a good pitch to bat. Once the ball gets softer, it gets easier to bat on.

IND vs AUS:Ravichandran Ashwin took his 31st Test five-wicket haul within 10 overs of his second-innings spell to decimate the Australian batting order as India won the Nagpur Test by an innings and 132 runs.

Ashwin dismissed Australian opener Usman Khawaja in the second over of their batting innings at the start of the third day’s second session.

After lunch, the Pat Cummins-led team was unable to form a partnership as spinners played havoc. In the second innings, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami each took two wickets, while Axar Patel also contributed to the victory.

Steve Smith (25) scored the most runs for the visitors in a disastrous second innings performance.

Earlier on day three, India built to their first innings advantage of 144 runs with three wickets remaining. Ravindra Jadeja (70) was the first batsman to be dismissed in the morning without adding to his overnight score of 66. He misjudged an in-angler from Todd Murphy and allowed it to strike his off-stump in the fifth over of the day.

Axar Patel continued to bat brilliantly and scored 84 runs off of 174 deliveries. He was the last man to fall as he was dismissed by Pat Cummins’s slow off-cutter just before the interval. Prior to that, Mohammed Shami displayed his batting prowess by scoring 37 runs off 47 balls and hitting the spinners with tremendous knocks. Together with Axar Patel, he contributed 52 runs to the ninth wicket total.

Murphy finished with bowling stats of 7/124, which was the third greatest performance from an Australia rookie in Tests behind Bob Massie (8/84) and Jason Krejza (8/215). It was because of his attempt to clear the boundary again that resulted in Murphy bringing up his seventh wicket.

India was bowled out for 400, keeping a first-innings lead of 223 runs, which was more than enough for Australia to take a 1-0 lead in the IND vs AUS Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.
