On Wednesday, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) spent a total of 12,350 crore rupees buying up a large number of shares of Indian public companies. This also included the mega block purchase that was completed in Adani Green Energy, which is funded by the Adani Group. On the other hand, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) increased the amount of money they sold, reaching more than 1,021 crore. Both the Sensex and the Nifty 50 reached fresh all-time highs thanks to vigorous purchasing activity across a variety of market segments.

According to the data provided by the NSE, the total value of FII purchases came to 21,017.34 crore, while the total value of FII sales was 8,667.34 crore, resulting in a net inflow of 12,350 crore.

On the other hand, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) spent a total of 13,978.21 crore and loaded a total of 14,999.22 crore worth of securities. As a result, they made 1,021.01 crore off of the sale.

Today, a major block deal worth 1,099.81 crore was completed on the NSE involving an investment in Adani Green Energy by Goldman Sachs GQG Partners International Opportunities Fund.

However, the Adani Family Trust sold shares in the mother business, Adani Enterprises, for a total of 4,140 crore, while Innite while Investment sold a stake in Adani Green for a total of 4,232.13 crore.

During the trading session on June 28th, robust purchasing in heavyweights and robust foreign funds ow as well as a sharp narrowing in the current account deceit buoyed the morale of the broader markets. A positive tone prevailed across the board across all of the sectoral indices. The Sensex reached a new all-time high of 64050.44 before finishing the day at 63,915.42; this is an increase of 499.39 points, or 0.79%. After reaching a new record high of 19,011.25, the Nifty 50 finally closed at 18,972.10, an increase of 154.70 points, or 0.82%, from its previous closing price.

S Ranganathan, Head of Research at LKP Securities, made the following statement in reference to the performance: “As Benchmark Indices scaled new highs in trade today, the sheer buoyancy of stock prices even in the broader markets made several experienced investors waiting on the sidelines for a meaningful correction mere spectators.” The Financial Services Index came very close to reaching 20,000 points today, which would put it in the company of all-time highs. This comes despite the fact that the monsoon appears to be making up for lost ground in some regions of the country. During today’s trading, investors saw a listed airline in India surpass a market capitalization of one lakh crore (Indian rupees).

The day before, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) put in 2,024.05 crore while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold 1,991.35 crore.

The move implies that bulls are in control, but the lack of decisiveness in the banking pack at the higher level is curbing the momentum, according to Ajit Mishra, who is the Senior Vice President of Technical Research at Religare Broking Ltd. Our optimistic outlook remains, and we offer suggestions for adjusting positions accordingly. Traders, on the other hand, shouldn’t go crazy and should keep their attention fixed on risk management, noting the fact that events occurring in the following month are likely to give additional triggers that will further fuel this rise. Information Technology (IT) and Banks are currently the Sectors to Keep an Eye on. The information technology sector has a low ownership rate and has not yet joined the upswing. Banks, on the other hand, have the biggest weightage in the index and are most likely going to undertake the most of the work from here on out.

The Indian stock market reached a new high when Madras Rubber Factory (MRF) became the country’s first six-digit stock, with a share price reaching Rs1 lakh. Many retail investors have questioned the affordability of this large sum.

Let us now compare it to a global stock, Berkshire Hathaway, the renowned corporation founded by Warren Buffett, where Class A shares are trading at more than $500,000 per share, equivalent to almost Rs4 crore.

Now comes the question: Is MRF actually an expensive stock? In comparison to Berkshire Hathaway, it does not appear to be so bad. So, let us go deeper into the depths of this intriguing MRF story to unearth the hidden secrets.

WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVE?

Companies routinely announce stock splits in order to make their securities more appealing and accessible to individual investors, hence improving liquidity while maintaining dividend payments. MRF, on the other hand, has never divided its stock. In 1970 and 1975, MRF awarded bonus shares in the ratios of 1:2 and 3:10, respectively, but no bonus shares have been issued subsequently. When the number of outstanding shares remains constant over time and the organization grows, the company’s market value and stock price rise.

EXPENSIVE ≠ QUALITY: DEBUNKING THE MYTH

In the stock market, high price is not always indicative of great quality. It is crucial to know how high a stock price is compared to the cost of valuation. Stocks are valued by investors using metrics such as price to earnings (PE) or price to book value (PB), market capitalization, and so on, therefore despite MRF’s high price, it is not the most expensive firm in India. MRF has never split its stock to reduce prices.

Over the years, MRF has proven that a stock’s high price may be justified by sustained profitability and promising growth. Therefore, it is essential to look beyond the stock’s price in order to assess its true worth and potential.

PEER COMPARISON: MRF’S PRICEY REALITY

The price-to-earnings (PE) ratio indicates that MRF is more costly than similar companies. MRF’s PE ratio, at 55 times, is significantly higher than that of its rivals. For comparison, Goodyear India is at 22.6 times, while Apollo Tyres is at 23.4 times, Balkrishna Industries at 42 times, JK Tyre at 18 times, and Ceat at 44 times.

Higher PE ratios, however, foreshadow lower potential profits. Over the past three to five years, MRF’s performance has lagged far behind that of its competitors and the market as a whole. During this time period, MRF only returned 56.9 percent, while the benchmark index increased by 87 percent. In a similar vein, MRF returned just 33% over a five-year period, while the Sensex increased by 77%. In comparison, Apollo Tyres returned 284.4 percent to shareholders over three years, Ceat returned 122.3 percent, and JK Tyres returned 219.68 percent to shareholders. The data present an enticing picture of MRF’s success relative to its competitors, calling for a deeper dive into the company’s investment potential.

MRF: EXPENSIVE BUT NOT IN THE TOP 100

MRF is undisputedly the monarch of expensive stocks in India, followed by Honeywell Automation, Page Industries, Shree Cement, 3M India, Abbott India, Nestle, Bosch, Procter & Gamble Hygiene, and Lakshmi Machine Works. Despite having a market capitalization of Rs42,000 billion, it is not among India’s top 100 listed companies in terms of market capitalization. With a market capitalization of Rs17 lakh crore, Reliance Industries leads the group, followed by TCS at Rs11.9 lakh crore and HDFC Bank at approximately Rs8 lakh crore.

MRF’S DISTINCTIVE CHARACTERISTICS

Individual investors should be encouraged by MRF despite the stock’s high PE ratio and slow growth rate. Investing in MRF, with its relatively high price denomination, could be advantageous in terms of reduced sensitivity to manipulation and general growth in the sector. The company’s rivals, however, are outperforming MRF for the reasons already indicated. Gains in the stock market are dependent on how the market will perform in the future, not how it has performed in the past. Be wary, as the stock market is a forward-looking beast.

The word “stock market” refers to a collection of exchanges across the world where shares of publicly traded firms can be purchased and sold. These kinds of financial dealings are transacted via conventional exchanges and over-the-counter (OTC) marketplaces, both of which are governed by a predetermined set of norms and are used interchangeably.

The terms “stock market” and “stock exchange” are frequently used synonymously with one another. Traders in the stock market will either purchase or sell shares of a company’s stock on one or more of the stock exchanges that are a component of the larger stock market.

The leading Indian stock exchanges include the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange(BSE).

Stock markets are venues where buyers and sellers meet to exchange equity shares of public corporations.

Stock markets are components of a free-market economy because they enable democratized access to investor trading and exchange of capital.

Stock markets create efficient price discovery and efficient dealing.

The Indian stock market is regulated by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and local regulatory bodies.

Introduction to the Indian Stock Market

The stock market is a major investment destination. The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) are the two main stock markets in India. An initial public offering (IPO) is a company’s first listing of its shares on a stock exchange. After that, these shares can be traded among investors on the secondary market.

Stocks worth INR 6,000,000,000.00 have been traded at times between the two Indian stock exchanges. Those who are unfamiliar with the share market in India may view investment in equities as a form of gambling.

Regulation of the Indian Stock Markets

The Securities and Exchange Board of India is in charge of enforcing the rules and maintaining order in the country’s stock exchanges. As a separate agency with authority to perform stock exchange inspections, SEBI was established by the SEBI Act of 1992. The market’s operations, as well as the structure and administration of the business, are inspected. SEBI’s primary functions are:

Ensuring a fair and equitable market for investors to grow in

Compliance of the exchange organization, the system its practices in accordance with the rules framed under the Securities Contracts (Regulation) Act (SC(R) Act), 1956

Ensure implementation of the guidelines and directions issued by the SEBI

Check if the exchange has complied with all the conditions and has renewed the grants, if needed, under Section 4 of the SC(R) Act of 1956.

Types of Share Markets

There are two kinds of share markets namely the Primary and Secondary Markets.

Primary Share Market

In order to issue shares and raise capital, companies must first register with the primary market. Listing on a stock market is another name for this procedure. When a firm sells its shares to the public for the first time, it is called an Initial Public Offering (IPO) and enters the primary market to raise capital. The company will then be open to the public.

Secondary Market

Once the new securities are sold in the main market, the shares of a corporation are traded in the secondary market. Investors can get out by selling their stock at this time. Trades are the name given to these exchanges on the secondary market. Trading occurs when investors buy and sell among themselves at a predetermined price. A broker acts as a go-between in these exchanges.

How do the Share Markets work

Understanding the Stock Exchange Platform

Trading in stocks and other financial instruments like derivatives takes place on a stock market. The Securities and Exchange Board of India oversees all trading that takes place on this exchange. In order to trade on the stock market, players must first register with SEBI and the stock exchange. Brokering, corporate stock issuance, and similar activities are all considered trading activities.

Listing of the Company in the Secondary Market

In an Initial Public Offering, or IPO, a company’s stock is sold to the public for the first time. Investors who put winning bids prior to the stock’s listing receive a proportional allocation of the shares.

Trading in the Secondary Market

Once the company has been listed, stocks can be traded in the secondary market by the investors. This is the marketplace for the buyers and sellers to transact and make profits or in some cases, losses.

Stock Brokers

Because of the magnitude of investors who number in the thousands, it is difficult to have them assemble at one location. Therefore, to conduct trade, stockbrokers and brokerage firms come into the picture.

These are entities that are registered with the Stock Exchange and serve as intermediaries between the investors and the exchange itself. When you place an order to buy any share at a given rate, the broker processes it at the exchange where there are multiple parties involved.

Passing of your order

Your broker will submit your buy order to the exchange, where it will be paired with a sell order for the same security. When both the vendor and the buyer settle on a price and confirm the order, the transaction is complete.

Settlement

After you agree on a price, the exchange will double-check the particulars to make sure the deal goes through without a hitch. Settlement is the process by which the exchange officially transfers ownership of the shares. Once this occurs, you will be notified. The brokers’ order desk, the exchange’s floor traders, and others must all be in on this message’s transmission.

Whereas settlement used to take weeks to materialize, it now occurs on T+2 days. If you make a deal today, the shares should appear in your Demat account by the end of the next business day. There are market dangers associated with investing in stocks. Seek professional advice before making any financial commitments. If you’re looking for a mutual fund, ClearTax is the place to go to find one that fits your needs.

The majority of Indian stock indices traded relatively steady on Tuesday morning, following a session-ending high.

On Monday, the indices traded on a strong note, and the Sensex gained approximately 400 points.

“Markets began the week on a positive note and gained over 0.5 percent. Ajit Mishra, Vice President – Technical Research, Religare Broking, remarked, “As the day progressed (on Monday), notable buying in banking and financials majors changed the tone of the market after a dull start.”

Investors will continue to monitor the earnings of listed companies and the most recent pattern of foreign investments in Indian equities for fresh indicators.

“The immediate concern is whether the current upswing can be sustained. The answer will primarily depend on global signals, as the market requires support from global markets, particularly the United States, according to VK Vijayakumar, chief investment strategist at Geojit Financial Services.

This week is incredibly significant for the United States, as many of its largest technology companies will report earnings. Importantly, US inflation and GDP data are anticipated this week and will influence the Fed’s interest rate decision the following week, Vijayakumar stated.

The financial markets in the Asia-Pacific region were generally lower on Tuesday, following a similar session on Wall Street, as investors awaited the release of US earnings later this week, according to Deepak Jasani, director of retail research at HDFC securities.
