Ahmedabad:A group of approximately thirteen middle management officers from the operations and maintenance division of the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) are presently participating in an immersive ‘on-the-job training’ programme centred on Japanese Shinkansen technology. This training initiative is designed to prepare participants for their duties along the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail (MAHSR)/bullet train corridor.

These officers, representing various technical departments within NHSRCL, will assume significant responsibilities in the administration and operation of MAHSR, India’s first high-speed rail link connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

Over the course of ten months, the training will take place at numerous locations in Japan. Its primary purpose is to provide these officers with specialised knowledge and understanding of the administration and maintenance of high-speed rail infrastructure. This advanced knowledge is essential for the successful implementation and administration of India’s first high-speed rail project.

This one-of-a-kind opportunity will allow the officers to investigate the most recent technological advancements, optimal methodologies, and top-tier operational practises that have positioned Japan as the global leader in high-speed rail networks.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail

At a rate of 320 kilometres per hour, the bullet train will cover 508 kilometres. It will make stops in 12 cities, such as Ahmedabad (Sabarmati), Ahmedabad (Kalupur), Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane, and Mumbai (Bandra Kurla Complex).
In July, bids were solicited for the design and construction of an underground station and caverns in Mumbai for the Bullet Train project. NHSRCL has awarded the final civil package (C3) for the Maharashtra portion of the MAHSR, which consists of 135 kilometres of alignment, seven tunnels, and the two-kilometer-long bridge over the Vaitarna River in Maharashtra.

As a typhoon bearing strong winds and heavy rain approached southern Japan on Wednesday, one person was reportedly slain and hundreds of thousands were left without electricity.

Thousands of tourists vacationing in the region’s tropical beach resorts were stranded when hundreds of flights to Okinawa and other nearby islands were cancelled.

Typhoon Khanun, described as “very strong” by the Japanese weather agency, delivered maximum sustained wind speeds of 180 kilometres per hour (112.5 miles per hour).

Wednesday morning, the power company in Okinawa reported that 220,580 homes, or roughly 35 percent of the total in the region, were without electricity.

The Fire and Disaster Management Agency issued a mandatory evacuation order for Okinawa and the southern portion of the Kagoshima region, urging over 690,000 people to seek shelter.

The agency reported that eleven persons in Okinawa sustained minor injuries.

Tuesday evening, a 90-year-old man perished after becoming entombed beneath a collapsed garage, according to NHK, which added that strong winds were likely to blame.

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a flood and landslip warning for portions of Okinawa’s main island.

At 2300 GMT, the typhoon was located approximately 70 kilometres south of Okinawa’s desolate Kumejima island and was moving west-northwest.

Later in the week, it was anticipated to cross into eastern China.

According to NHK, more than 400 flights were cancelled on Wednesday, affecting over 65,000 passengers.

On Tuesday, travellers waited in long lines at the main airport in Naha, hoping to return home.

In July, Paris Saint-Germain omitted star striker Kylian Mbappe from their preseason roster for a tour of Japan because of a contract dispute between the French star and the club.

PSG announced their squad for the Japan tour, where they will face Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr, Champions League finalists Cerezo Osaka and Jeonbuk Motors, and Japanese clubs Cerezo Osaka and Jeonbuk Motors, from July 25 to August 3, as part of their preseason preparations. The new manager Luis Enrique announced a 29-man squad for the Japan tour, excluding Mbappe.

Since joining PSG in 2017, the 24-year-old forward has made it plain that he will not extend his contract beyond its current expiration date in 2024. This decision has put PSG in a precarious position, with president Nasser Al-Khelaifi stating that the club will not allow Mbappé to depart for free.

Last month, Mbappe informed PSG in a letter of his decision not to extend his contract. Unwilling to allow the player to depart for free next summer, the club is now considering selling him this summer. This situation has prompted rumours of possible transfer destinations for the French international.

Mbappe has been linked with Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Arsenal as potential destinations. Given Mbappe’s longstanding admiration for the Spanish titans, however, it is widely believed that Real Madrid is his most likely destination.

Notably, rumours abound that Mbappe has already agreed to personal terms with Real Madrid, allowing him to join the Spanish titans in 2024.

PSG faces the dilemma of allowing Mbappe to complete the final year of his contract without recovering any of the $195.71 million they spent to acquire him from AS Monaco in 2017.

“My stance is crystal clear. If Kylian wishes to stay, we want him to stay. I don’t want to say this repeatedly. Al-Khelaifi told reporters after announcing Luis Enrique as the club’s new manager in June, “But he must sign a new contract.”

We cannot afford to loose the greatest player in the world for nothing. This organisation is French.”

In recent statements about his future with PSG, Mbappe has expressed discontent with the club’s Champions League performance. He stated, “I will never be content. My most important objective is to win the Champions League. After recharging my vitality and taking a break, I will return with the same hunger for which I am known.

The UK, which had fallen to sixth due to Brexit, rose to fourth, a position it last reached in 2017.Singapore is a haven for the wealthy, and the recent surge has been fueled by concerns over geopolitical tensions and a crackdown on private enterprise in China. Obtaining the city-state’s travel document, however, is a difficult task. About 23,100 persons were awarded citizenship in the country of 5.6 million in 2017, and authorities ruled out doing so on the basis of individual net worth earlier this year.In order to compile its list, Henley uses information from the International Air Transport Association. This passport index uses a different approach than the one used by the financial advisory firm Arton Capital, which ranked the United Arab Emirates first in the world in 2017.

In the latest setback to Japan’s space agency, a rocket engine explodes during a test on Friday, according to an official.

According to Japanes local media, the detonation caused no injuries. The incident occurred approximately one minute after the second-stage engine’s ground test began.

According to Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, the Noshiro Testing Centre in Akita Prefecture is developing the Epsilon S as the successor to the present Epsilon series to increase the country’s competitiveness in the expanding satellite launch market.

The first rocket in the series was launched in 2013 and five models were successfully launched before an Epsilon-6 was ordered to self-destruct in 2022 due to a deviated trajectory.

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency sent the command at 9:57 a.m., shortly after the Epsilon-6 rocket launched from the Uchinoura Space Centre near the southernmost point of the main island of Kyushu at approximately 9:50 a.m.

According to Japanes local media, it was carrying eight satellites developed by private and public entities, including institutions.

The agency stated at a press conference following the failed launch that the decision to transmit the self-destruct command was made after the rocket deviated from its intended position and was unable to place the satellites into orbit.

As the Epsilon S employs the same fuel tank as the Epsilon-6, the launch of the Epsilon S was delayed from fiscal 2023 to fiscal 2024 due to the failure.

Solid propellants are utilised by rockets in the Epsilon series, which simplifies launch preparations in comparison to liquid propellants.

Asia Nikkei has learned that Japan will take the initiative in organize a meeting of Sri Lanka’s creditor nations to promote debt restructuring. The plan is anticipated to be announced on Thursday by Japan, India, France, and other lenders. China will be invited, as it is Sri Lanka’s greatest bilateral lender.

The arrangement could serve as a model for addressing the debt issues of middle-income countries, which have been exacerbated in part by rising interest rates in the United States and Europe.

The Japanese Minister of Finance, Shunichi Suzuki, will participate alongside senior officials from India and France. Asia Nikkei predicts that President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe will participate online.

In addition, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and other international organizations, as well as the private sector, will participate in the discussions regarding debt restructuring. The parties involved will coordinate the first meeting’s date and time.

After the coronavirus pandemic all but halted global travel, Sri Lanka’s primary source of income, tourism, plummeted. Incapable of repaying borrowed infrastructure funds from China and other nations, the nation defaulted in May of last year.

Asia Nikkei reports that China held 52% of Sri Lanka’s bilateral debt in June of last year. Japan was the second greatest creditor with a 20% share, followed by India with 12% and France with 3%.

Asia Nikkei reported that China has resisted reducing or canceling Sri Lanka’s debt. The debt restructuring has consequently been delayed. However, China did provide assurances in March that it would work out a debt solution for Sri Lanka in the coming months, allowing the South Asian island to secure a vital USD 2.9 billion bailout from the IMF. China’s participation or non-participation in the multilateral discussions is currently the central issue.

In 2020, the Group of 20, comprised of industrialized and emerging-market nations, established a common framework to resolve the debt issues of emerging economies. According to Asia Nikkei, only low-income countries are eligible for partial debt remission under the leadership of the IMF and other organizations.

Today’s high prices, caused by the pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, are causing emerging economies severe pain. According to the World Bank, emerging economies will have an external debt of $9 trillion by the end of 2021, which is more than double what it was ten years prior.

Also read this:Key indices decreased in morning trade amid weak global cues

The debt crisis has spread beyond low-income countries, with Sri Lanka becoming the first middle-income country to default since the coronavirus outbreak. According to Asia Nikkei, if Sri Lanka’s default is resolved utilizing the new framework, it could serve as a template for future debt restructuring.

Kishida stated that the new plan for a free and open Indo Pacific consisted of “four pillars”: maintaining peace, addressing new global issues in cooperation with Indo-Pacific nations, attaining global connectivity through various platforms, and ensuring the safety of the open seas and skies.

According to an advisor to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Japan will cease to exist if it is unable to stem the decline in its fertility rate, which poses a threat to its social safety net and economy.

“If we continue on this path, the country will vanish,” Masako Mori said in an interview in Tokyo on February 28 after Japan reported a record-low birth rate for last year. “Those who are forced to endure the process of extinction will suffer tremendous damage. Those infants will be affected by a terrible disease, she added.

In Japan, there were less than 800,000 births and approximately 1.58 million fatalities in the previous year. Kishida has pledged to double spending on children and families in an effort to halt the decline, which is accelerating quicker than anticipated.

From a height of just over 128 million in 2008, the population has declined to 124.6 million, and the rate of decline is accelerating. The percentage of individuals aged 65 and older increased to over 29% in the past year. While South Korea has a reduced fertility rate, Japan is experiencing a faster population decline.

Mori, a member of the upper house and former minister who advises Kishida on the birthrate problem and LGBTQ issues, stated, “It’s not falling gradually; it’s heading directly down.” “Children born today will be thrust into a society that becomes distorted, diminishes, and loses its capacity to function”

She added that if nothing is done, the social security system would disintegrate, industrial and economic strength would decline, and there would be insufficient recruits for the Self-Defense Forces to defend the nation.

According to reports, Japan will pay families 1 million Yen per child to leave Tokyo this year in an effort to slow the country’s rural areas’ rapid population decline. A family with two kids who moves out of the Tokyo area could get 3 million Yen in support under this new plan.
Under this programme, which started in 2019, the government anticipates that 10,000 individuals will have relocated from Tokyo to rural areas by the year 2027. 1184 families received assistance from the government in 2018, compared to 290 in 2020 and 71 in 2019.

According to Time magazine, families can already receive a flat 1 million Yen as compensation for moving in addition to the support for kids. Households that have lived in the central Tokyo metropolitan area for five years are eligible to apply for the support funds.

The cost of the funds is being split between the national government and regional councils. If the families want to open a business in the community, additional support would also be given in that case.

It’s not as simple as it sounds to get the one million Yen to move to a picture-perfect rural town, though. Families who wish to receive assistance must have lived in their new residences for at least five years and have at least one member employed or intending to start a new business. The money must be returned if the tenant vacates the property before five years have passed.

The advantages of Japan’s towns and villages are frequently emphasised in an effort to draw tourists. Having “eligible men” available, as in the case of Otari village, and having simple access to childcare are two of them.

Japan’s rural areas have experienced a rapid decline in population in recent years as more young people leave for opportunities in cities. According to The Guardian, officials are hoping that the alluring sum will entice families to revitalise these areas and relieve pressure on space and public services in greater Tokyo.

This is the most recent effort to boost the local economies in the face of yet another decline in Japan’s population and birthrate. The total number of births in 2021 was 811,604, which was the fewest since records began to be kept in 1899.
