Aviation officials in Kathmandu have confirmed that there were five Indian passengers on board the plane that crashed on Sunday morning near Pokhara, Nepal.

Seventy-two people, including four crew members and at least ten foreigners, were travelling aboard a Yeti Airlines aircraft.

“I am profoundly shocked by the unfortunate crash of a Yeti Airlines ANC ATR 72 carrying people from Kathmandu to Pokhara.
In a social media post, Nepal‘s Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, aka Prachanda, made a heartfelt call to security officers, all government agencies, and the general public to begin an effective rescue.

Soon after the plane crashed on the runway of Pokhara’s brand-new international airport as it was approaching the runway, Mr. Prachanda arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport.
The aircraft was seen tilting to the left as it reached the ground and crashed with a loud thud, according to pictures shot by local Pokhara residents.

S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs for the Union, wrote on Twitter, “Deeply grieved on hearing about the air crash in Pokhara, Nepal.
We are thinking of the impacted families.

1. According to Reuters, there were five Indians, four Russians, one Irishman, and two South Koreans on board the aircraft when it crashed.
2. Local media said that dense black smoke could be seen billowing from the disaster site in videos widely posted on social media, while rescue attempts proceeded at the crash site.
3. According to the flight monitoring website FlightRadar24, rescue crews and large crowds surrounded the wreckage of the 15-year-old aircraft.
4. The Yeti Airlines ATR-72 9N-ANC took off from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu at 10:33 a.m., according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).
5. In Nepal, Pokhara is a popular tourist destination.
6. Local media said that, during landing, the plane crashed on the Seti river bank between the old and new airports.
7. According to Chief District Officer of the Kaski district, Tek Bahadur KC, the plane crashed into the Seti river valley.
8. Nepal’s prime minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ called an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers in response to the accident.
9. In addition, he expressed regret over the accident and ordered the Home Ministry, security officials, and all government agencies to immediately launch rescue and relief activities.
10. Last year, on May 29, a Tara Air plane crashed in Nepal’s Mustang province, killing all 22 persons onboard.
