Napoli against Juventus HIGHLIGHTS: Napoli vs Juventus:

Leaders Napoli ended Juventus’ eight-match Serie A winning streak in stunning fashion on Friday, embarrassing Massimiliano Allegri’s squad 5-1 in the top-of-the-table matchup.

Napoli extended its lead at the top of the table by 10 points with 47 points after 18 games. Third-place Juventus is tied on 37 points with second-place AC Milan, who has a game in hand.
Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti told DAZN that his team played a wonderful game and kept up a fast pace. “The evening was exceptionally lovely because there was a large throng. The Neapolitans are usually one step ahead of us, yet this team was able to rekindle a passion for these hues.”

Napoli took the lead in the 14th minute when Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny stopped winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s close-range bicycle kick but failed to prevent Victor Osimhen’s follow-up header. Angel Di Maria’s spectacular individual attempt from outside the area narrowly missed the crossbar for Juventus shortly thereafter.

Five minutes later, Juve forward Arkadiusz Milik attempted to beat Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret with a header; however, his attempt was ineffective. Instead, in the 39th minute, Osimhen assisted Kvaratskhelia in doubling Napoli’s advantage by providing a crisp cross into an open area for the Georgian to score.

Meret was helpless as Di Maria made it 2-1 with a low shot into the left corner three minutes later, bringing Juventus back into the game. Napoli regained a two-goal lead 10 minutes into the second half when defender Amir Rrahmani scored a spectacular first-touch goal off a corner kick.

Minutes later, Osimhen might have made it 4-1 from close range, but his shot just missed the bar. In the 65th minute, the striker scored his 12th Serie A goal of the season with his second header of the night. In the 72nd minute, substitute Eljif Elmas clinched the victory for Napoli.

After his 450th Serie A match as a manager, Allegri observed, “This was a well-deserved loss because we entered the game with less enthusiasm.” “The scenarios we conceded were also quite straightforward to interpret and forecast, but sometimes luck is on your side and sometimes it’s not. We attempted to turn the game around at halftime, but Napoli deserved to win.”

It was the first time in nearly two decades that Juventus have allowed five goals in Serie A. The previous time they suffered a defeat of this magnitude was in May 1993, when Pescara defeated them 5-1. Napoli, who are seeking their first Serie A championship since 1990, have not lost to Juventus in their last three league encounters. Napoli will travel to Salernitana on January 21, while Juve will host sixth-placed Atalanta the following day.
