Wednesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) files a charge sheet against three individuals, including a Myanmar national, in an extortion case involving members of prohibited terrorist organizations in Manipur.

The charge sheet was filed with the NIA Special Court in Imphal against, among others, three cadres of the proscribed terrorist organizations PRA (People’s Revolutionary Army), KCP (Kangleipak Communist Party), PREPAK (People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak), and UNLF (United National Liberation Front).

Deepak Sharma alias Khinmaung (38) of Myanmar, Suraj Jasiwal (33) of Manipur, and Shaikhom Bruce Meetei (38), also from Manipur, were cited under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). Deepak Sharma has been accused under the Foreigners Act of 1946 as well.

“The accused raised and collected the funds with the intent to further the activities of these terrorist organizations,” according to an NIA representative.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that cadres of the outlawed organizations made extortion calls to the residents of Imphal and the Valley regions in order to raise funds for their organizations. “These cadres provided the victims with the bank account information of their associates and instructed them to deposit the extortion funds there,” the spokesperson said.

In a Saturday intelligence-led joint operation with the Anti Terror Squad (ATS) of the Madhya Pradesh Police, the National Investigation Agency dismantled a terror cell with ties to ISIS and apprehended three Jabalpur residents.

The arrests occurred during nocturnal raids conducted by the NIA on May 26 and 27 at 13 locations in Jabalpur. Syed Mamoor Ali, Mohammad Adil Khan, and Mohammad Shahid will be brought before the NIA’s special court in Bhopal. The central agency seized weapons with pointed edges, ammunition (including ammunition with a prohibited bore), incriminating documents, and digital devices.

The NIA registered a case on May 24 as part of its investigation into the alleged pro-ISIS activities of Mohammad Adil Khan, who had come under its scrutiny in August of last year. He and his associates are accused of participating in the dissemination of ISIS propaganda via social media platforms and ‘Dawah’ programs on the ground.

The activities were conducted with the intent of launching violent terror operations in India on behalf of ISIS. The module held meetings/Dars in local Masjids and houses and hatched plots and conspiracies to spread terror in the country, according to a statement released by the agency.

The investigation revealed that the three suspects were highly radicalized and committed to engaging in violent jihad activities. They were engaged in fund-raising, disseminating ISIS propaganda, motivating and recruiting youth, and attempting to acquire weapons and ammunition in order to commit terrorist acts.

According to the NIA, Syed Mamoor Ali created a local group called ‘Fisbilillah’ and also managed a WhatsApp group with the same name. Together with his associates, he was in contact with a Jabalpur-based illicit arms dealer in an effort to acquire pistols.

Adil, a devoted adherent and supporter of ISIS, was able to construct an active group of similarly radicalized Jabalpur-based individuals. The NIA stated that some of the module members were already considering Hijrat (flight) to conflict zones, while others had plans to establish a local group to carry out violent jihad in India.

Adil also operated multiple YouTube, Instagram, and WhatsApp channels to recruit and inspire young people to join ISIS. Investigations revealed that Shahid also intended to acquire pistols, IEDs, and even grenades for use in violent attacks in India.

In addition to criminal conspiracy, the NIA included in its Kerala chargesheet the related case of the barbaric murder of a Palakkad resident, Sreenivasan, by armed PFI members.

In the two chargesheets filed today, various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967, and the Arms Act of 1959 were used to charge the defendants.

In the September 2022 Kerala case, the Special Court for NIA Cases in Ernakulam has filed a chargesheet against the PFI as an organisation and 58 other accused persons. After taking over the case in 2022, the NIA apprehended sixteen of the accused, while the remainder were apprehended by Kerala Police.

The Kerala Chargesheet was submitted after the NIA conducted searches at over one hundred locations throughout the state. During the course of its investigation, the NIA has also attached 17 properties deemed to be “proceeds of terrorism” and seized 18 bank accounts belonging to the accused.

Investigations in the case revealed that the accused conspired to drive a wedge between different communities and groups residing in India, to spread the concept of violent extremism and Jihad in India, and to establish Islamic Rule in India by 2047, according to the chargesheet.

PFI established various Wings and divisions, such as the ‘Reporters Wing,’ the ‘Physical and Arms Training Wing,’ and the ‘Service Teams,’ to accomplish these goals. Under the pretext of Physical Education, Yoga Training, etc., the NIA discovered that PFI was using its various Campuses, facilities, and infrastructure to provide arms training to selected cadres.

To eradicate their “targets,” they also established a “Reporters Wing” and “Service Teams or Hit Teams.” As ‘executors’ of the Orders pronounced by their parallel Courts, referred to as ‘Dar-ul-Qaza’, PFI pressed into service its loyal and highly trained personnel of their ‘Service Teams’ when necessary.

Abdul Sathar State General Secretary, Yahiya Koya Thangal State Executive Member (SEC) Member, Shihas MH Ernakulam Zonal Secretary, along with District Secretaries/President Sainudhen TS, Sadik AP, CT Sulaiman, and PK Usman State General Secretary SDPI Kerala are among the prominent PFI leaders and office bearers charged today.

In the Tamil Nadu case, the Chargesheet submitted to the NIA Special Court in Chennai lists ten defendants, including Khalid Mohammed, State Vice President of PFI. This case was also opened in September 2022, when the NIA arrested nine of the defendants. Several months later, the tenth suspect was apprehended.

Investigations conducted by the NIA revealed that the accused had led radicalization programmes to motivate, incite, and recruit gullible Muslim youth, who were then provided with weapons training at training centres. PFI cadres formerly carried out the orders of PFI office bearers and leaders to conduct reconnaissance, attack adversaries, and engage in illegal and violent activities.

NIA has filed chargesheet against two IS operatives: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against two alleged Islamic State operatives who have been implicated in over two dozen incidents of arson and sabotage, including the burning of the national flag in Karnataka, according to a statement released by an official on Friday.

Maaz Muneer Ahmad (23) and Syed Yasin (22) of Shivamogga have been accused in a special court under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, a federal agency spokesperson said.

The official stated that the case involves a plot to further the activities of the outlawed Islamic State terrorist organisation by committing acts of arson, sabotage, and violence in Karnataka. Investigations against six additional detained suspects are ongoing.

The case was initially registered by the Karnataka Police after Prem Singh was allegedly killed on August 15 in Shivamogga by the accused Zabiulla and others. The NIA assumed responsibility for the investigation in September of last year.

“Ahmad and Yasin, both B Tech graduates, were radicalised and motivated by a foreign-based online handler to target public and private properties, including warehouses, liquor stores, hardware stores, vehicles, and properties belonging to members of a specific community. In furtherance of a plot devised by the Islamic State, they had committed more than 25 acts of arson and sabotage, according to the spokesperson.

According to the NIA, their degree of dedication is evident from their actions.”They both travelled to the Agumbe and Varahi river backwaters forest area in the Shivamogga district for trekking and reconnaissance of potential hiding places. They obtained munitions and prepared to construct an IED. Yasin tested one of the IEDs on the bank of the Varahi River in Shivamogga. He also burned a national flag and filmed a video to demonstrate his anti-Indian credentials, according to a spokesperson.

The official stated that the two terror operatives were being paid in cryptocurrencies via international wire transfers by their online supervisor.”Investigations revealed that Ahmad received around 1.5 lakh worth of cryptocurrency from the online handler into the accounts of his friends, while Yasin received 62 K into the account of a friend,” the spokesperson said.

As part of the larger IS plot, the NIA stated that another defendant in the case, Mohamed Shariq, intended to detonate an IED at the Kadri Temple in Mangaluru on November 19, 2016, but the device exploded prematurely due to a faulty timer, averting a “potential disaster.”

NIA raids in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala: According to authorities, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is currently conducting raids at 16 places spread out over the state of Tamil Nadu in connection with the October 2022 vehicle cylinder blast case that occurred in Coimbatore.

The citizens of Kottaimedu in Coimbatore city awoke on October 23, 2022 at dawn to the sound of a car explosion that had taken place in front of Sangameswarar Temple the previous day, which was the day before Deepavali. Jameesha Mubin was determined to be the person who perished in the car explosion that occurred when one of the two LPG cylinders that were stored inside the vehicle went off. This discovery took place by nightfall.

In the initial stages of the investigation, the police detained six individuals from Coimbatore on various charges. These individuals were Muhammad Azharudheen, 23, Afsar Khan, 28, Muhammad Thalha, 25, Muhammad Riyas, 27, Firoz Ismail, 27, and Muhammad Nawaz Ismail, 25, all of whom were from Coimbatore. However, the suspected mastermind Mubin, 29, was killed in the explosion.

The National Investigative Agency (NIA) asserts that the suspects had been plotting the terrorist assault for a considerable amount of time prior to its execution. It was discovered by the investigators that Faaruq was the one who conducted the conspiratorial meetings that took place in February 2022 at the Hasanur and Kadambur sections of the Sathyamangalam forests in Erode. Other participants were Mubin, Azharudheen, Hidayatullah, and Ali.

Shareeq, who allegedly attempted to manufacture a bomb in September as well, was carrying a low-intensity IED when it detonated. A burned pressure cooker with batteries was discovered inside the vehicle. The Karnataka police stated that the explosion was not accidental, but rather a “terrorist attack with the purpose to do severe damage.”
