Tuesday, Union minister Nitin Gadkari proposed a novel plan to reduce the price of petrol to Rs 15 per liter, Gadkari, speaking at a gathering in Pratapgarh, Rajasthan, advocated the combination of ethanol and electricity to reduce the price of fuels. The minister of Road Transport and Highways of the Union stated that a mixture of 60% ethanol and 40% electricity could significantly reduce the price of gasoline.

“If an average of 60% ethanol and 40% electricity is used, gasoline will be available for 15 per liter, and the populace will benefit. Imports and pollution will decrease. The imports amount to 16 lakh crore; instead, this money will go to farmers’ households, said Gadkari.

Gadkari also emphasized that the government intends to transform farmers into both “annadata” and “urjadata” as part of its plan to empower the nation’s farmers.

Gadkari was in Rajasthan to inaugurate and begin construction on eleven national highway projects in Pratapgarh totaling 5600 crore. Four national highway projects totaling 219 kilometers and costing 3,775 crore were inaugurated.

Nitin Gadkari has repeatedly emphasized the need to switch from hydrocarbon-based to ethanol-blended fuels. Additionally, he described the government’s efforts to implement ethanol into agricultural and construction equipment.

In accordance with the revised National Policy on Biofuels (2018) and Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme, India intends to reach a 20% ethanol-to-petrol blending rate by 2025-26.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the country had already attained an average ethanol blend rate of 10% in gasoline as of June 2022.
