Ghulam Mohammad Zaz’s

Finally, Ghulam Mohammad Zaz’s perseverance, devotion, and passion for his profession have borne fruit. On the 74th Republic Day of India, Zaz received the Padma Shri, the country’s highest civilian honour. In Jammu and Kashmir, he is the sole artist still active in the production of classic Kashmiri musical instruments including the Santoor, Rabab, and Sarangi.

The announcement that Ghulam Mohammad Zaz had received India’s highest civilian award has sparked celebrations at Zaz’s household. His home is surrounded by relatives, friends, and neighbours in the Zaina Kadal neighbourhood of Srinagar. In the Kashmir region, he represents the eighth generation of musical instrument makers. He also dedicates this honour to the earlier generations who taught him the craft and continued its practise.

“I am incredibly grateful to the government for the Award because it is God’s grace. It has made me quite happy. This honour is for those who educated me; my family has been producing these musical instruments for seven generations prior to me. As the eighth generation to create these instruments, I shall do so. The family has always kept this craft. I didn’t do this task for pay; rather, my forefathers gave it to me “Ghulam Mohammad Zaz stated.

The most distinctive musical instruments in Kashmir are made by Zaz, and some of India’s top musicians like them. He also creates these instruments for musicians outside of India.

Musicians from the Middle East, Europe, and the United States have all used his instruments. Playing the Ghulam Mohammad Zaz-made Santoor, musicians like as Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Bhajan Sopori, and many others have given international performances.

“Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma and Bhajan Sopori were among the nation’s first Santoor players. They went above and above. The custom is being continued by their offspring. But their parents’ dedication to the instrument is unparalleled. These instruments have been travelling the globe thanks to me. European musicians use the same instrument in various ways. I regret that no one will carry on this legacy in the future, but I also have hope that the art will survive, said Ghulam Mohammad Zaz.

Zaz’s hometown is celebrating his award right now. The fact that he has been recognised for his extensive effort and devotion to the trade for more than seven decades has made his family and friends happy for him. All three of Zaz’s daughters are incredibly proud of their father’s accomplishments.

“We have the utmost respect for Papa. The government has finally recognised his commitment to his work. I’m content right now. It’s a holiday everywhere; we’ve been getting a lot of calls, and we’re thrilled and proud, said Ishfaq Ahmad, Zaz’s son-in-law.

The craft of creating these musical instruments may be lost in the future if the government does not step in.

The Egyptian contingent marched across the parade’s length while saluting the dais, demonstrating the strong diplomatic ties between the two countries.

“It is a joy for us to participate in India. We are visiting India for the first time at this time. It is a wonderful country with a history that predates that of Egypt. Both our civilizations are quite old. With our buddies from the Indian Army, we have been practising here for the past few days. The group’s commander, Egyptian Colonel Mahmoud Mohamed Abdel Fattah El Kharasawy, spoke to the media on Wednesday and said, “Our friendship is strong, and we love supporting one other.

On Thursday, the Indian contingent marched alongside the Egyptian delegation, which was led by Colonel El Kharasawy and had 144 soldiers and represented the various branches of the Egyptian armed services.

A 12-member band marched behind the 144-person military force that made up the Egyptian representation at the parade. Behind the Egyptian contingent commander, an officer was holding the Egyptian flag while two officers each carried a ceremonial sword.

It is believed that the march of the Egyptian contingent and the president of Egypt’s visit are efforts to strengthen already-existing ties between Egypt and India. Since the 1960s, the two nations have maintained close defence relations.

Following an agreement reached between then-Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and then-Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser, India participated in Egypt’s aircraft sector in the 1960s. The nations worked together to create the Helwan HA-300 fighter aircraft.

— Sidhant Sibal (@sidhant) January 26, 2023

According to data on globalsecurity.org, a deal was signed in September 1964 between the two nations for the development of the E-300 engine. From the 1960s through 1984, Indian Air Force pilots also trained Egyptian pilots.

Exercise Cyclone-I, the first combined training session between the special forces of the two militaries, was recently held in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, on January 14, 2023. The exercise, which lasted 14 days, was designed to improve defence cooperation between the two countries with a focus on professional skill-sharing and Special Forces interoperability in desert terrain while conducting counterterrorism, reconnaissance, raids, and other special operations.

The exercise, which takes place in Rajasthan’s deserts, challenges both contingents to improve their special forces abilities, including sniping, combat free fall, reconnaissance, surveillance, and target designation. It also encourages communication between the two contingents regarding new weapons, equipment, tactics, techniques, and procedures.

India and Egypt on Wednesday upgraded their connection to a strategic partnership in addition to their long-standing military ties. The two nations will work to coordinate their efforts in the areas of politics, security, defence, energy, economy, and countering radicalization and cross-border terrorism.

After consulting with the Egyptian President, PM Modi declared, “We have chosen to transform our bilateral ties with Egypt into a strategic relationship. We will create a long-term framework under the India-Egypt Strategic Partnership for increased cooperation in the areas of politics, security, economy, and science.

In addition, PM Modi stated that the two nations have agreed to increase their bilateral trade to $12 billion over the following five years.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India and Egypt’s bilateral trade totaled USD 7.26 billion in 2021–22. The two nations’ bilateral trade agreement has been in effect since March 1978.

On January 27, the Egyptian President will leave India and return to Egypt.

The Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Reserve Police Force, as well as the military forces, displayed one of the primary themes of Republic Day, Nari Shakti (women power) (CRPF).

Women participated in the BSF’s Camel Contingent, and for the first time ever, a woman officer co-led a team of Corps of Signals “Daredevils” Motor Cycle Riders in the parade.

In the meantime, the Indian Army sent 61 cavalry columns, nine mechanised columns, six marching contingents, and an army aviation helicopter fly-past.

On Republic Day, 27 tableaux representing various States, Union Territories, Departments, and Armed Forces were on display.

Speaking to the nation on the eve of the 74th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu stated in her Republic Day Speech that India’s success as a democratic republic was due to the fact that “So many creeds and languages have not divided but united us.”

After taking office as president at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on July 25 of last year, she delivered this speech on Republic Day for the first time.

According to President Murmu, “India succeeded as a democratic republic because so many creeds and languages have not separated us, they have only unified us.”

“In order for our nation to uphold the motto “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan,” I salute the contributions of farmers, labourers, scientists, and engineers. I value every citizen who makes an effort to advance the country “She continued.

President Murmu covered a wide range of subjects in her approximately 30-minute speech, including India’s G20 chairmanship, the economy, women’s empowerment, and the ambitious Gaganyaan programme to send Indian astronauts to space.

According to Murmu, India’s assumption of the G20 leadership is an opportunity to advance multilateralism and democracy and is the ideal arena for reshaping the globe. She asserted that the G20 was the perfect place for debating and resolving global issues like climate change.

“The G20 presidency is an opportunity to advance multilateralism and democracy, and it is the ideal forum for establishing a better future and a better world. I have no doubt that the G20 would be able to intensify its efforts to create a more just and sustainable global order under India’s leadership ” said the President in her republic day speech.

President Murmu stated that India had been one of the fastest-growing global economies and that the majority of economic sectors had recovered from the consequences of the Covid-19 outbreak.

“The government’s timely and proactive measures have made this feasible. Sector-specific incentive programmes also exist “She praised the ambitious “Atmanirbhar Bharat” programme of the Narendra Modi administration.

President Murmu also emphasised that gender equality and women’s empowerment were no longer just catchphrases. “In recent years, we have made considerable strides toward achieving these goals. Without a doubt, women will have the greatest influence on how India develops in the future “She said.

In reality, one of the main centrepieces of the Republic Day parade this year will be a demonstration of the increasing stature of women (nari shakti) in the armed services.

In her address to the nation, the President also praised liberation warriors and declared that Dr. BR Ambedkar, who oversaw the Constitution’s drafting committee, would always be remembered with gratitude by India.

“The initial text of the Constitution was written by the lawyer BN Rau, and other specialists and officers who contributed to its creation should also be remembered. We are pleased that there were representatives from all communities and regions of India in that assembly, as well as 15 women “Murmu said.

The Republic Day ceremonies will include Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi as the head of honour. Notably, this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishing of diplomatic relations between Egypt and India. The Republic Day parade will also feature participation from a military unit of the Egyptian Army.

Since 1950, India’s Constitution has been in place on January 26. But the Constitution was written and approved by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949, a long time before the date that was chosen.

If that’s the case, why do we celebrate our Republic Day on January 26? The answer lies in the history of India’s fight for freedom, which has made the date important since 1930.

The historic “Poorna Swaraj” declaration was made official on January 26, 1930. This marked the start of the final phase of India’s fight for freedom from British rule, where the goal was complete independence.

After the Chauri Chaura incident in February 1922, the Non-Cooperation Movement ended abruptly. At the time, Mahatma Gandhi thought that the country was “not yet ready” for his peaceful ways of protesting. So, there was no more organising on the scale of the Non-Cooperation Movement and the anti-Rowlatt Satyagraha in the 1920s.

But the 1920s were by no means unimportant. From the rise of revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad to the coming of age of a new generation of Indian National Congress (INC) leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose, Vallabhai Patel, and C Rajagopalachari, the 1920s set the stage for the future of India’s freedom struggle.

Notably, in 1927, the British government put together the Simon Commission, which was made up of seven Europeans led by Sir John Simon and tasked with coming up with ideas for political reforms in India. This made people all over the country angry and unhappy. For the first time since 1922, people all over the country protested against the Simon Commission, chanting “Simon Go Back.”

In response, the INC put Motilal Nehru in charge of its own commission. The Nehru Report asked for India to be made a dominion within the Empire. In the Balfour Declaration of 1926, dominions were described as “autonomous communities within the British Empire, equal in status, not subordinate to each other in any way in their internal or external affairs, united by a common allegiance to the Crown and freely associated as members of the British Commonwealth of Nations.” Countries like Canada, Australia, and New Zealand became dominions in 1926.
Importantly, not everyone in the Congress agreed with the Nehru Report. Young leaders like Bose and Jawaharlal Nehru, who was Motilal’s own son, wanted India to break off all ties with the British Empire. They said that even though India would have some independence as a dominion, the British Parliament and Crown would still be able to get involved in Indian affairs.

Importantly, both Bose and Nehru thought that if India became a dominion, it would be complicit in colonial exploitation in other parts of the British Empire, especially in Africa. Bose and Nehru had a much more radical view of the world than their predecessors. They didn’t just see anti-colonialism as a local political issue for India, but also as a global issue. But Gandhi still wanted India to be a dominion, saying that it would be a good step in India’s fight against colonialism. His views would soon change.

History and Meaning of Republic Day 2023: Republic Day marks the day that the Constitution of India was signed on January 26, 1950. India got rid of the British Raj in 1947, but it wasn’t a sovereign state until January 26, 1950, when the Constitution of India went into effect. This made India a republic. The first meeting of the Constituent Assembly was on December 9, 1946, and the last one was on November 26, 1949. The Constitution was passed a year after that. Dr. BR Ambedkar was in charge of the group that wrote the Constitution. India also celebrates Constitution Day on this day.
