Speaking to the nation on the eve of the 74th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu stated in her Republic Day Speech that India’s success as a democratic republic was due to the fact that “So many creeds and languages have not divided but united us.”

After taking office as president at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on July 25 of last year, she delivered this speech on Republic Day for the first time.

According to President Murmu, “India succeeded as a democratic republic because so many creeds and languages have not separated us, they have only unified us.”

“In order for our nation to uphold the motto “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan,” I salute the contributions of farmers, labourers, scientists, and engineers. I value every citizen who makes an effort to advance the country “She continued.

President Murmu covered a wide range of subjects in her approximately 30-minute speech, including India’s G20 chairmanship, the economy, women’s empowerment, and the ambitious Gaganyaan programme to send Indian astronauts to space.

According to Murmu, India’s assumption of the G20 leadership is an opportunity to advance multilateralism and democracy and is the ideal arena for reshaping the globe. She asserted that the G20 was the perfect place for debating and resolving global issues like climate change.

“The G20 presidency is an opportunity to advance multilateralism and democracy, and it is the ideal forum for establishing a better future and a better world. I have no doubt that the G20 would be able to intensify its efforts to create a more just and sustainable global order under India’s leadership ” said the President in her republic day speech.

President Murmu stated that India had been one of the fastest-growing global economies and that the majority of economic sectors had recovered from the consequences of the Covid-19 outbreak.

“The government’s timely and proactive measures have made this feasible. Sector-specific incentive programmes also exist “She praised the ambitious “Atmanirbhar Bharat” programme of the Narendra Modi administration.

President Murmu also emphasised that gender equality and women’s empowerment were no longer just catchphrases. “In recent years, we have made considerable strides toward achieving these goals. Without a doubt, women will have the greatest influence on how India develops in the future “She said.

In reality, one of the main centrepieces of the Republic Day parade this year will be a demonstration of the increasing stature of women (nari shakti) in the armed services.

In her address to the nation, the President also praised liberation warriors and declared that Dr. BR Ambedkar, who oversaw the Constitution’s drafting committee, would always be remembered with gratitude by India.

“The initial text of the Constitution was written by the lawyer BN Rau, and other specialists and officers who contributed to its creation should also be remembered. We are pleased that there were representatives from all communities and regions of India in that assembly, as well as 15 women “Murmu said.

The Republic Day ceremonies will include Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi as the head of honour. Notably, this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishing of diplomatic relations between Egypt and India. The Republic Day parade will also feature participation from a military unit of the Egyptian Army.

Introduction

India is all set to commemorate its 74th Republic Day, Ganthantra Diwas in Hindi, on the 26th of January, 2023 with all the pomp and pride. People swarm to watch the spectacular march of the Army, Navy, and Air Force along with their bands and the Tableaux displaying the culture of various states. This will be followed by the Prime Minister laying a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyothi in memory of expired soldiers. Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will pay his state visit from the 24th to the 26th of January accompanied by a team of high-level delegates. On this day in 1950, the Constitution of India was drafted under the chairmanship of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar.

Why Was Jan 26th Chosen As Republic Day?

January 26 was chosen as it was on this day in 1929 that the Indian National Congress released the Purna Swaraj Declaration of Indian Independence, thereby rejecting the status of Dominion under the British Regime. The Indian constitution outlines the procedures, authorities, obligations, fundamental rights, and guiding principles for both the Indian government and its people. This day is a celebration of Indian citizens’ newfound freedom to choose their own government. It is a national holiday honoring steps taken to create the Indian Constitution.

How Is Republic Day Celebrated In India?

This year, Republic Day is celebrated with the same vim and zest as any other year. Twenty-three tableaux, including 17 from States and Union Territories and six from various Ministries and Departments, will parade down Kartavya Path on January 26, 2023, showcasing the nation’s rich cultural legacy, economic prosperity, and strong internal and external security.

Significance Of India’s Republic Day

One of the most stunning parades in the world is India’s Republic Day Parade. People from various places travel to India around this period to see the splendor of the Republic Day celebrations in Delhi. The President of India raises the National Flag and presents the Paramvir Chakra, Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra, and Children’s National Bravery Award in recognition of the heroic citizens of India. Three divisions of the Indian Armed Forces—Navy, Air Force, and Indian Army—lead the Republic Day Parade. Additionally, there will be a number of cultural displays, a troop parade, military bands, air exhibitions, and astonishing skills and daring on display by military vehicles. On this day, schools in India are closed, but students still attend class to honour this national holiday by flying the flag, performing plays and dances, and eating treats. We are honored to be Indian and Celebrate this 74th Republic Day with full dignity.

Republic Day Parade

The first Republic Day Parade was conducted on January 26, 1950, and was presided over by Indonesian President Sukarno. It was led by then-Brigadier Moti Sagar of the Gorkha Regiment. The flypast of the parade featured more than a hundred aircraft, including Harvards, Consolidated B-24 Liberators, Dakotas, Hawker Tempest, Spitfires, and jet aircraft. [3]

As a voice for‘Vocal for Local’, all Indian army equipments displayed at the Republic Day parade this year are made in India. 105 mm Indian Field Guns built in India will fire the 21 Gun Salute” (IFGs). A military unit from Egypt will also participate in the Republic Day Parade in 2023 on Kartavya Path.

The march will travel by the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose statue at the roundabout, the C-Hexagon, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, and Netaji Subhash Marg. After this, the glorious tableaux is displayed. The Ministry of Defence chooses the tableaux through a process that follows a number of rules. The ministry advises that tableaux depict historical occurrences, cultural traditions, development initiatives, and the environment. The tableaux should have some motion and sound but not contain any logos. Twenty-three tableaux, including 17 from States and Union Territories and six from various Ministries and Departments, will parade down Kartavya Path on January 26, 2023 (74th Republic Day).

The Indian Beating Retreat

Indian Beating Retreat ceremony is marks the official conclusion of the 74th Republic Day. The event is on the evening of January 29, which is the third day after Republic Day. The bands from the three military branches, the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force, perform it. The location is near the end of Rajpath at Raisina Hills and Vijay Chowk, a nearby area flanked by the north and south blocks of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The Indian President, the event’s chief guest, is escorted to the venue by a cavalry detachment known as the Presidential Body Guard (PBG). The Indian National Anthem is played after the PBG commander instructs the unit to deliver the National Salute as the President arrives. The ceremony of display by the massed bands known as Gana Mana was created by the Army. It features Military Bands, Pipe and Drum Bands, Buglers, and Trumpeters from various Army Regiments and bands from the Navy and Air Force. At the conclusion, popular songs like the National Song of India, Vande Mataram, and Mahatma Gandhi’s favorite hymn, Vaishnava Jana To, are played.

Conclusion

India celebrates Republic Day as a national holiday, and people do so in a variety of ways. While children take part in Republic Day activities at schools, everyone is hooked to the television to watch the parade. The President of India hoists the National Flag at the event, held in New Delhi’s Rajpath. The Indian Armed Forces organise the parade. People also honour all of the Indian freedom fighters who gave their lives in the cause of their country.
