On Wednesday, Rohit hit up to five sixes, which was more than Chris Gayle’s previous record for most international sixes. Gayle has 553 sixes in international cricket, while Rohit now has 556.

The former Pakistan cricketers are worried because Rohit’s amazing show of strokeplay happened right before the much-anticipated match against Pakistan. Did Wasim Akram say that Rohit looks like a totally different “beast”?

Ravi Sharma looked really pretty. He made good shots and didn’t risk anything. He was able to take more time than the other hitters. He said on A Sports, “Kohli got fifty, it was a good knock, he was in charge, but Rohit was a whole other animal.”

‘Where do you bowl to Rohit Sharma?’: Misbah

Another former Pakistan captain, Misbah-ul-Haq, said that bowlers would not know where to hit Rohit when he is playing like that.

“You know what you’re doing, because your teams are under a lot of pressure.” Do you want to play ball? It’s going to be tough for every team now that they’ve seen Rohit play like that. Where are you going to bowl to him? If you bowl outside the off stump, he hits it over the fence for a four. If you go straight, he lifts it over his head, and if you drop it short, he pulls it for a six over square leg or fine leg. It’s impossible for them to know where to bowl because of the way he’s hitting the ball and the small error range.

“What is your name?” (How are you going to escape this attack?) “It will be hard for the Pakistan bowlers,” Akram said right away.

Khan, who used to bat and keep wicket for Pakistan, said that Shaheen Afridi will have to do his best to get rid of Rohit quickly. “He has to be out early. Maybe Shaeen can bowl a yorker or someone can bowl a very good bouncer.” “If not, it looks like it will be hard to get him out,” he said.

Akram also praised the Indian leader for how often he talked to people during the World Cup.

“Check out his past. In only 19 World Cup games, he has scored 7 hundreds. Sachin Tendulkar got 6 runs in 44 games. Sangakkara got five in 35 innings, and Ponting got five in 42 innings. It’s amazing to get seven hundreds so fast in World Cups.

Indian and Pakistani teams are both off to good starts in the World Cup. Australia and Afghanistan were easy wins for India, while the Netherlands and Sri Lanka were wins for Pakistan.

On Saturday, the game will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Until he was deemed superfluous to requirements during the World Cup year, Dhawan was an integral member of India’s leadership group. Following the international debuts of youthful openers Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan, Dhawan was relegated to the background, and his lackluster performance in One-Day Internationals led to his dismissal from the national team. Last year, Dhawan had a strike rate of 74.21 despite averaging just 34.40.

Dhawan drops special message for Rohit’s men

On Tuesday, when India announced its World Cup roster, Dhawan offered his support to his erstwhile teammates on the national team. The 37-year-old shared a special message on X (formerly known as Twitter) in which he supported Rohit and company to win the World Cup at home. “Congratulations to my teammates and colleagues who have been selected to represent India in the World Cup 2023! With the support of 1.5 billion people and their prayers, you carry our aspirations and dreams. May you return with the trophy and make us pleased! Go for broke, India! “#ChakDePhatte #WorldCup,” tweeted an Indian cricketer. Dhawan’s social media post was an instant hit with his admirers.

Talking about India’s 15-member squad, versatile batsman KL Rahul retained his place on the roster despite not playing international cricket since May. Recently, the Indian batter was deemed healthy by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. Rahul was suffering from a minor ailment when he was included in India’s Asia Cup squad.

The vacuum left by Rahul was filled by Ishan Kishan, who scored 82 not out against Pakistan in India’s Asia Cup opener. Rahul and Kishan were retained by India’s World Cup selectors, while Tilak Verma and Prasidh Krishna were omitted. Sanju Samson, who served as Rahul’s reserve at the Asia Cup, was also omitted from India’s World Cup squad.

As a result of a change in leadership, the seasoned Rahul Dravid assumed the role of chief coach. Nevertheless, despite the change in leadership, India’s ICC trophy drought has persisted to the present day, with the team losing the T20 World Cup last year and the World Test Championship final in June 2023.

As India seeks its first ICC championship since 2013 at the ODI World Cup on home soil, the preparations for the marquee event have not inspired much confidence. The team lost the home ODI series against Australia in March, and on its return to the format last month against the West Indies, both Rohit and Kohli were spared in two of three games as India won 2-1. In addition, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer’s injuries are a significant concern for the team’s management.

Rashid Latif, a former wicketkeeper-batsman for Pakistan, believes that India would be in a stronger position for the World Cup if Kohli were still the captain.

“Had they allowed Virat Kohli to remain as captain, India would have been 100 percent ready for the World Cup by now,” Latif said on his official YouTube channel.

“The administration of the Indian team has experimented with a number of players, and if I consider their batting, the middle and lower order — from numbers 4 to 7 — they have not allowed any new player to settle in. He stated that there have been too many adjustments.

Dependency on Rahul, Iyer “risky”

The reliance on ailing veterans such as KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer could be “risky” heading into the World Cup, he added.

“I would say it’s risky because KL and Iyer are returning from injuries,” he continued.

“In the middle overs, where a faster strike rate is required even in 50-over cricket, I believe Asian nations will struggle to compete with these teams. Currently, the English, Australian, and New Zealand batsmen’s reverse sweep and switch strokes against the spinners are extremely lethal,” he added.

The last time India won the World Cup was when the Men in Blue hosted the 50-over competition. The cricket powerhouse is also anxious to end its trophy drought in domestic ICC competitions. In the absence of premier batsmen Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant, an injury-plagued squad competed in the ICC World Test Championship final. Though India will be without Pant for the remainder of the 2023 season, the ODI World Cup holders remain hopeful that superstars Iyer and Rahul will return from lengthy injury layoffs to bolster India’s squad.

‘After Yuvi, nobody has come and settled down’

Speaking on the margins of a La Liga event in Mumbai, India’s captain Rohit discussed India’s No. 4 batting dilemma and gave legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh an honourable mention. “As you can see, No. 4 has been a problem for us for a long time. No one has settled in after Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh). “However, Shreyas has batted there for a long time and performed well; his statistics are outstanding,” Rohit said.

‘Injuries have given Iyer a bit of trouble’

Iyer was ruled out of the ODI series against Australia due to an ongoing back injury. The star batsman had back surgery in London earlier this year, and the middle-order player missed the WTC final against Australia. The 28-year-old last played an ODI for India in January at the Greenfield International Stadium against Sri Lanka.

“Unfortunately, ailments have caused him some difficulty. In all honesty, this is what has transpired over the past four to five years. Many of these men have been injured, and there is always a new player on the pitch. “Therefore, no one has been able to settle down, and once someone becomes fit, he assumes that position,” Rohit explained.

Rohit Sharma’s batting form has deteriorated significantly over the past year, with the Mumbai Indians captain experiencing consecutive disappointing Indian Premier League campaigns. However, his lack of runs for the Indian team is becoming a concern for the team’s administration.

Former South African captain Graeme Smith, when discussing Rohit’s struggles, suggested that the Indian captain just needs to refresh. Smith, widely regarded as one of the finest Test captains of all time, added that personal form frequently influences captaincy duties as well.

“Personal performance is one of the most difficult challenges of being a captain. The pressure exerted by a leader never ceases. Rohit likely needs to simply refresh. His form has not likely been at a level consistently. He is going through a rough period, but a strong personal performance can often help to smooth things over.

No one criticizes his captaincy or manner of leadership. In an interview with The Times of India, the Proteas legend stated, “On the personal performance side, if he can get some really good scores behind him, it alleviates a lot of the pressure.”

Whenever there is a failure, the senior members always receive the most criticism: Smith

The 42-year-old also cast light on the criticism leveled at a number of senior Indian players following their poor performance in the WTC Final at The Oval. While a change of guard appears imminent, Smith believes it must be a gradual transition, citing the current group of players as the cause for India’s run to the final.

“Whenever there is a failure, the senior players always bear the brunt of the criticism. If you go back in time (in years), that has always been the case. There must be a plan and a gradual integration for these items. Those athletes also helped you reach the WTC final.

They have consistently performed across the globe for an extended period of time to get India to the final. It is therefore difficult to censure and dismiss them based on a single game, as he concluded.

Rohit Sharma’s squad In the recently concluded ICC WTC 2021-23 final at The Oval in London, India suffered a devastating loss at the hands of Australia. Rohit and the management were heavily criticized for their performance in the championship match, which resulted in an ignominious 209-run defeat.

Notably, the captain has had a heavy workload since assuming responsibility for all formats. In addition, he led the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023, participating in the majority of the team’s matches prior to the WTC final.

In light of recent developments, it is believed that Rohit may be rested for a few matches during the upcoming tour of the West Indies. According to a source close to the situation, the captain could be spared for the Tests or the eight-match white-ball series.

“During the finals of the Indian Premier League and the World Test Championship in England, Rohit Sharma appeared a tad worn out. The selectors desire for him to receive some rest during the West Indies voyage. He will presumably miss the Tests and the eight-match white-ball series that follows (three ODIs and five T20Is). The selectors will consult with Rohit before making a decision, a source told TOI.

Notably, Rohit appeared out of form with the bat, accumulating scores of 15 and 43 against the Australians. Rohit had a disappointing season in the Indian Premier League, scoring 332 runs in 16 appearances at a poor average of 20.75.

Selectors have not yet chosen the squads for the multi-format series. However, the selection committee may shortly announce the team that will travel to the West Indies for the upcoming series.

Rohit, a 36-year-old star opener, had a disappointing 2023 Indian Premier League season. Although he led the Mumbai Indians to the semifinals, his batting performances left much to be desired. Rohit scored 332 runs in 16 matches for the team at an average of 20.75 and a strike rate of 132.

Sanjay Manjrekar, a former India batsman, believes the team management should not be concerned about Rohit’s form because the opener is at ease in Test cricket.

“Ignore his IPL form, as he appeared out of form in the previous IPL as well… we witnessed his incredible batting performance in the first Test against Australia.” Test cricket appears to be the most thrilling format for Rohit Sharma at this point in his career, just as it has always been for Virat Kohli, Manjrekar told Star Sports.

“His current batting performance in Test cricket is nearly flawless. Only one issue has been observed during test matches: he is occasionally dismissed while playing the draw shot. They have delivered him a short ball while maintaining a fielder in place. This is an involuntary injection.”

Manjrekar went on to describe how Rohit utilizes his follow-through to generate momentum for his pull shot.

“If you observe him in ODI cricket, his draw shot is quite intriguing. His back lift does not originate from above, allowing him to play the ball down. “He has a very low back lift; he simply picks up the ball, and in the follow-through, the bat goes behind his back to generate power,” Manjrekar explained.

In fact, Rohit had a worse IPL season in 2022, when he failed to surpass the 300-run mark and scored only 265 runs in 14 matches. Rohit’s last season with 400+ runs was in 2019, when he scored 405 runs in 15 outings.

The dates for the series have not yet been announced, but it will likely take place between the WTC final and India’s tour of the West Indies in the third and fourth week of next month. Considering the heavy workloads of Rohit, Kohli, and Shami, the board has decided to give them a break.

The majority of India’s best cricketers are participating in the IPL, a two-month tournament, and some of them will also play in the WTC final against Australia on June 7 at The Oval. A full-strength Indian side is scheduled to travel to the West Indies for a three-format tour in July. From 12 July to 13 August, they will compete in two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is against the West Indies, followed by a three-match T20I series in Ireland.

It is therefore nearly unthinkable to include players like Rohit and Kohli in the Afghanistan series. This may create opportunities for IPL players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Mirwais Ashraf, the president of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), is currently in India for the final of the Indian Premier League. While a meeting between the members of the Asian Cricket Council is scheduled, the India and Afghanistan cricket boards may finalize the details of their proposed white-ball series.

According to the report, Rohit, Kohli, and even Hardik Pandya could be spared for the Ireland series in preparation for the Asia Cup.

The ACC board will convene on the sidelines of the IPL final to decide the fate of the Asia Cup in 2023, meaning that the workload for the Indian players will only increase as the 50-over World Cup is scheduled for October-November.

If confirmed, the Asia Cup 2023 is expected to be played in September, meaning that the Indian players will be hard-pressed to find time to rest and recuperate. A packed calendar has already resulted in significant injuries to Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer, with no clear timeline for their return. In addition, India will play a three-match ODI series against Australia in September – their second such series this year – to complete World Cup preparations.

According to ‘Cricbuzz,’ the BCCI is unable to schedule the proposed three-ODI series against Afghanistan due to time constraints and the fact that the broadcast contract with Disney Star has expired and a new tender has not yet been issued. During an earlier interaction with the media in Mumbai, Jay Shah, a senior BCCI secretary, stated: “BCCI media rights tender will be on schedule this year (June-July) and will depend on the Afghanistan tour, but most likely the procedure will begin with the Australia series. The Board will consult with all interested parties and reach an interim decision.”

On April 30, Team India captain Rohit Sharma celebrates his 36th birthday. Rohit, who is currently playing for the Mumbai Indians in the 2023 Indian Premier League, is the most successful captain in the annals of the tournament, having won it five times. Rohit has been the full-time captain of the Indian team since 2021, and led the squad to the T20 World Cup semifinals in 2018.

On the occasion of Rohit’s 36th birthday, a number of Indian cricketers took to their official social media profiles to send him birthday wishes.

Former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan, who worked with Rohit at Mumbai Indians, wished him “Happy Birthday, Brotherman!” It has been a pleasure to observe your development as a person, cricketer, and family man! I wish you continued prosperity in life and in your career. Cheers.”

Dinesh Karthik, the wicketkeeper-batsman who made an inspiring revival to the Indian team under Rohit’s captaincy last year, took to Twitter to send his best wishes to Rohit. “Many years of happiness to you, Sham! Giving you that kiss straight back,” Karthik wrote.

Star former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who was one of the senior players in the dressing room when Rohit first joined the Indian team, wrote, “Happy birthday brothaman, from being a youngster in the team when I first met you to now leading the team, you’ve done well and should be proud of how far you’ve come. I hope you score tons of runs and bring home loads of trophies this year! Lots of affection.”

Suresh Raina, another of Rohit’s former India teammates, also wished him on Twitter. “Happy Birthday, friend @ImRo45.. Best wishes for your success, health, and happiness. “It’s great to see you grow as a leader, brother,” Raina wrote.

Yuzvendra Chahal, India’s premier leg-spinner, sent a heartfelt birthday greeting to Rohit. “Happy Birthday to my favorite and best brother in the entire universe, @ImRo45. Happy birthday to my guiding light, my best friend, and the person who makes me laugh more than anyone else on earth. Happy Birthday Rohitaaaaaa shramaaaa,” wrote Chahal.

The Mumbai Indians will play the Rajasthan Royals on Sunday evening, attempting to avoid a third consecutive setback in the current tournament.
