Education in management and business carries a heavy burden. It encourages the abilities, skills, and ways of thinking that prepare students for the workplace in a continuously changing world. It is a challenging and demanding procedure.

As a result, a business degree must remain current with the expectations that determine societal and corporate priorities. Teachers must actively research, reflect, and brainstorm on the specific skills and behavior patterns that will empower their students to positively impact society in the current business environment, where customers and staff are progressively influencing and trying to persuade businesses to prioritize purpose.

This need is changing what business education ought to be.

Mission of B schools

A reconsideration of existing management expertise is urgently needed as workplaces, employees, and work undergo significant transformations. An ecosystem that enables students to put what they are learning in the classroom into practice is a crucial component that is absent from traditional business education. This has consequences for program design and how emerging colleges in general, business schools, and management schools in particular need to rethink who they are.

In the context of India, the World Economic Forum’s “Future of Jobs” study (2020) highlighted 15 new talents that will be most in demand in the job market. It covers a variety of interpersonal, behavioral, cognitive, and social abilities, in addition to a strong emphasis on technological skills. Perhaps not surprisingly, the National Economic Policy 2020 has prioritized interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary programs.

Business schools should aim to provide graduates with critical thinking abilities, discipline knowledge, broad perspective on topics and challenges through many lenses, and adequate experience and talents to face the world outside.

Technology has indeed been everything but a lifesaver for several sectors over the past few years. Many sectors redesigned their operations on the strength of cutting-edge technology and digitization, especially after a two-year break from the pandemic. However, the education industry was the only one that underwent significant changes. With the help of intelligent classes and online certifications, the education sector successfully bridges myriad knowledge gaps.

What began as a temporary fix during the pandemic has become a popular learning trend. The best curricula from renowned educational institutions and colleges are now available online, lowering financial and physical obstacles to education. Riding this success wave, gamification trends, the growth of ed tech, improving workplace skills, and the development of multiverse learning and growth will all be seen in the coming year.

Top Five Business School Trends

1) Business schools now provide exchange programs with colleges abroad, allowing students to complete a portion of their coursework at one or more partner institutions. This is known as globalizing business education. Due to the necessity for business schools and management schools of both the future to be cross-pollinators of different cultures and ideas, this will gain momentum in the upcoming years. To build a revolutionary and international meeting platform, they will need to attract teachers, staff, and students correctly.

2) Integrating DEIB principles: It is now well acknowledged that it is essential to concentrate on creating an educational environment that draws and maintains a diverse set of students. This calls for a culture that values equality, fosters a positive work atmosphere and supports candid communication and fruitful interactions. Because of this, business schools are putting more effort into integrating Diversity, Equality, Inclusion, and Fostering Belonging into all aspects of their operations, from faculty hiring to student recruitment.

3) Establishing strategic alliances: Inter-disciplinary alliances and strategic partnerships are being established by business schools. This is crucial if they want to stand out from the competition. Business schools are utilizing partners’ knowledge to enhance educational delivery. They are continuously evaluating how collaborations affect every aspect of the institution, including curriculum design, academic delivery, research, and outreach projects.

4) Successful business schools are starting to make investments in new technologies. Learning today is becoming more hybrid. Business schools will need to develop immersive platforms for enhancing distant students’ engagement or AI-enabled exams for customized tracking of skill development to serve students from various backgrounds. They must invest in technology since technological developments will improve online and face-to-face learning experiences.

5) Educating faculty: As expectations change, the faculty’s responsibility is expanding. Along with teaching and overseeing their research, they also develop into mentors, facilitators, and counselors. They must promote innovative online education, develop best practices, and offer a variety of support approaches. Along with that, management schools must also make sure that their faculty can adjust to the new, difficult jobs and the technologies and hybrid models essential to the institution’s success.

Conclusion

Numerous new standards have emerged in our post-pandemic society, such as working from home and online schooling. Students of every age may continue to make space for online courses because skills and education have a finite shelf life due to the rapid pace of technological innovation, which is expected to advance employment and increase skill sets. As opposed to degrees, skill-based education is becoming more and more popular worldwide.
