The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that 413 people have died in the current conflict in Sudan, while the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reported that at least nine children have been killed and more than 50 severely injured in the fighting, according to Turkish News Agency Anadolu.

413 people have died and 3,551 injuries, in sudan conflict according to the Sudanese government, WHO spokesperson Margaret Harris reported at a UN press conference.

The battling is a continuation of ongoing clashes between the country’s army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

She reported 11 confirmed assaults on healthcare facilities, including 10 since April 15.

“According to the Sudanese Ministry of Health, twenty health facilities have ceased operations. In addition, according to Ministry of Health data, 12 health facilities are at risk of closing,” said Harris.

The WHO spokesperson was quoted by Anadolu as saying, “This means that all those people who require care are impacted, and this includes not only those who have been injured by hearings and terrible fighting, but also those who required treatment before and will require treatment in the future.”

At the same press conference, James Elder, a spokesperson for UNICEF, stated, “As always, the violence has a devastating impact on children.

There are now allegations of at least nine children killed and at least fifty children injured. As long as fighting persists, these figures will continue to rise,” he added.

A significant number of people are reportedly trapped without access to electricity, according to Elder, as reported by Anadolu.

“They are terrified of running out of food, water, and medicine,” he said, adding, “One of our greatest concerns involves hospitals that have been burned.”

Elder stated that Sudan already had one of the highest infant malnutrition rates in the world.

The UNICEF spokesperson stated, “We now have a situation where critical life-saving aid for approximately 50,000 children is at risk.”

Elder stated that the conflict also threatens “the cold chain” in Sudan, including vaccines and insulin worth over USD 40 million, due to power outages and the inability to refuel generators.

Anadolu reported that UNICEF has received reports of children taking refuge in schools and care centers as fighting rages around them and of children’s hospitals being forced to evacuate as bombardment approaches.

Elder stated that prior to the escalation of violence in Sudan, the humanitarian requirements of the country’s children were high, with an estimated three-quarters of children living in extreme poverty.

Simultaneously, 11.5 million children and community members required emergency water and sanitation services, 7 million children were out of school, and over 600,000 children were severely malnourished.

Anadolu reported on Saturday that fighting broke out between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in and around the capital Khartoum.

In October 2021, the military dismissed Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok’s transitional government and proclaimed a state of emergency in what political forces termed a “coup.”

National Girl Child Day 2023: Girls play an important role in the welfare and development of any society. A girl child, who grows up in a healthy environment, becomes a capable woman, who contributes towards keeping the family, society and country healthy. Today girls are working in almost every field and are strengthening their position, but there was a time when girls were killed in the womb itself. Due to this the problem of gender inequality increased. After birth, her child would get married, due to which she loses her childhood. They are deprived of physical, mental and social development and at the same time, being pregnant at an early age also affects the health of both the adolescent girl and the child. All these have an impact on the development of the country as well. National Girl Child Day is celebrated every year in the month of January with the aim of ending these evils against the girls and bringing the adolescent girls to the first position of the society. Government and UNICEF together are running many schemes for the girls, so that their all-round development can be done and a safe society can be created for the girls to live. Let us know about the history and importance of National Girl Child Day, as well as learn about UNICEF’s plans for adolescent girls.

When is National Girl Child Day?

National Girl Child Day is celebrated every year on 24 January. The celebration of National Girl Child Day began in 2009, when for the first time the Ministry of Women and Child Development celebrated Girl Child Day in the country.

Why is Girl’s Day celebrated only on January 24?

There is a special reason behind celebrating Girl Child Day on 24th January only. Because of the country’s first woman Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Girl’s Day started being celebrated on January 24. When Indira Gandhi became the Prime Minister of the country for the first time in 1966, her swearing-in ceremony took place only on 24 January. This day is important for the empowerment of women in the history of India. To make this day memorable, it was decided to celebrate National Girl Child Day on 24th January.

Girl’s Day 2023 Theme

Every year National Girl Child Day has a special theme. The theme of Girl’s Day in 2019 was ‘Empowering Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow’. The theme of the year 2020 was ‘Meri Awaz, Hamara Saksha Bhavishya’ and the theme of Girl’s Day 2021 is ‘Digital Generation, Our Generation’. The theme of National Girl Child Day 2022 was celebrated as ‘Umang Rangoli Utsav’. At present, the theme of National Girl Child Day 2023 has not been announced yet.

Importance of National Girl Child Day

International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated every year on 11 October with the aim of increasing the share of girls in the world and paving the way for better health, education and career of adolescent girls. The purpose of celebrating this day is to make women aware of their rights and women empowerment.

UNICEF and the girl child

UNICEF is an international organization working for children, adolescent girls and pregnant women. UNICEF also supported the government’s Kilkari scheme to strengthen the status of adolescent girls in India and make them self-reliant. Under this scheme, many adolescent girls got a chance to fulfill their dreams and make a career. Apart from this, UNICEF is also working for the health of pregnant women, as well as running an awareness program to eliminate evil practices like child marriage.

UNICEF’s program for girls

red dot challenge

UNICEF, together with adolescent girls, women, partners and advocates, re-imagine a world where no girl or woman is left behind because of natural menstruation, and where period poverty and stigma are history.

child marriage

Marrying before the age of teenagers and adolescent girls can put a crisis on their future. UNICEF is running awareness programs to end child marriage in India and working closely with the state government and government and non-governmental organizations.

howling

The Bihar government provides financial assistance to the Kilkari scheme. Under this scheme, adolescent girls have to be made self-reliant. UNICEF trains adolescent girls and prepares them for the future. Kilkari is working together with the scheme and the government for the upliftment of daughters.
