He added that this weakening should occur incrementally and have a limited impact on currency-related inflation. Bhansali anticipates the Rupee to reach 82.60 in December and 84 in March. Extracted excerpts:

Why has the rupee touched a record low, will it continue to decline?

Since the interest rate disparity between the Chinese yuan and the US dollar has been widening, the yuan has fallen to almost 7.35 per dollar, allowing the RBI to let the rupee drop to the 82.95 level it had been so adamantly protecting against.

Fed officials’ hawkish stance on interest rates helped the dollar index rise from a low of 99.50 to 103.50, and a decline in the value of the Japanese yen, from 138 to 145, provided the final push. Gold and other riskier assets have also been declining alongside the Dow for the past eight days. Fear of taking chances has increased as a result.

The increase in price of oil from $70 to $85 per barrel has also prompted the oil industry to increase its dollar purchases. Only the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) can sell dollars at times of rupee weakness because it has amassed large dollar reserves at 81.70. On Wednesday, it sold $2 billion, and it may have cautioned banks to reduce their dollar-rupee arbitrage holdings, which drove the rupee up to a high of 82.37 on Tuesday. Because of this, the depreciation of the rupee will be sluggish and gradual, depending on the movements of the dollar and Asian currencies following Friday’s Jackson Hole (Wyoming) Symposium hosted by the (US) Federal Reserve.

What will be the impact of the weakening rupee on FPI flows?

Although I am still optimistic, FPI inflows have decreased to nearly $1.8 billion in the last 15 days from $8 billion in the previous 20 days, despite my optimism. A weak rupee always discourages foreign direct investment because foreign investors begin to lose money on their holdings. However, a sluggish decline will permit FPIs to continue investing.

Will this delay the rate cut cycle and do you think the RBI needs to hike rates?

The government is determined to rein in inflation, and it will undoubtedly take action on the problem just as it did to rein in the cost of tomatoes and onions. Inflationary pressure on the cost of vegetables should ease by October/November, in my estimation. As the RBI anticipates interest rates to be higher, at 5.7%, (there may be) no rate reduction for the next 6-7 months until March 24. They might hold off on a rate hike, making the currency weaker and potentially helping exporters.

What is your outlook on inflation and the 10-year government bond yield?

For the next three months, I expect inflation to hover around 6%, with a tiny lean towards the lower end of the range. The yield on 10-year government bonds is forecast to be around 7.25 percent throughout the same time frame. I expect the 10-year yield to fall to roughly 6.80 percent over the course of the next year.

Also Read:–India’s real estate sector expected to expand to $ 5.8 trillion by 2047: Knight Frank-NAREDCO report

Due to the gradual nature of the increase, it is unlikely that inflation or currency weakness will be significantly affected. My December goal is 82.60, and my March goal is 84.

We’ll look at its resilience in the face of pessimism and the bank’s initiatives, and we’ll wrap up with the currency’s future prospects,” said Amit Pabri, an analyst with CR Forex.

Despite recent pressure from investors worried about China’s delayed reaction to economic downturn and property sector difficulties, the yuan was relatively unchanged in early trading.

However, ICICI Securities believes that these worries may not have a reliable foundation. “The recent increase in US yields from 3.75% to 4.3% was precipitated by Fitch’s downgrade of the country’s credit rating and is placing pressure on FPI flows into India. Nevertheless, given the inflation outlook, the yield on US 10-year bonds is likely near its upper bound. This should alleviate concerns regarding FPI outflows, while structural domestic equity flows in India remain positive, as evidenced by record-high SIP flows, according to a report from ICICI Securities.

“Small businesses across the nation with accounts at Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank can breathe a sigh of relief knowing they will be able to pay their employees. It will not cost taxpayers anything. This is funded by the fees banks pay into the Deposit Insurance Fund,” stated Biden.

However, the failures have caused concern among customers who hold their funds in other banks of comparable size.

Friday, US regulators shut down Silicon Valley Bank following a traditional bank run in which depositors rushed to withdraw their funds simultaneously. It is the second largest bank failure in U.S. history, second only to Washington Mutual’s 2008 failure.

Regulators announced that New York-based Signature Bank had also failed, a sign of how rapidly the financial crisis was spreading.

Biden emphasised the “safety” of the American banking system as he outlined the measures his administration is taking to prevent the collapse.

He placed the blame for the banking collapse on the previous administration. Biden stated, “During the Obama-Biden administration, we imposed stringent requirements on banks like Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank, including the Dodd-Frank Act, to prevent a repeat of the 2008 financial crisis. Sadly, the previous administration reduced some of these requirements. I will ask Congress and banking regulators to strengthen the rules for banks to reduce the likelihood of future bank failures and to protect American jobs and small businesses.

Monday morning at First Republic Bank in Studio City, a steady stream of customers withdrew their funds and moved them to larger banks.

As a result of the second- and third-largest bank failures in U.S. history, there were concerns about what could fall next.

Regional banks that are a couple of steps smaller than the “too-big-to-fail” megabanks that helped bring down the economy in 2007 and 2008 are under intense pressure.

ABC 7 reported that shares of First Republic fell 62.6% despite the bank’s announcement on Sunday that it had strengthened its finances with cash from the Federal Reserve and JPMorgan Chase.

In response to Eyewitness News, the First Republic attempted to calm its anxious customers amidst the turmoil.

First Republic stated in a statement, “We continue to meet the needs of our customers by opening accounts, making loans, executing transactions, and providing exceptional service in our offices and online.”

Large banks that have been repeatedly stress-tested by regulators since the 2008 financial crisis were less affected by the decline. JPMorgan Chase declined 1.2%, while Bank of America declined 3.9%.

Gold prices are on fire and every day it is creating new records. Encouraged by the increase in sales during Diwali and Dhanteras in October last year, jewelers were expecting an increase in demand in the new year, but the rate at which the price of gold is rising, seems to be dashing these hopes. Internationally, gold prices have increased from around $1,615 in November 2022 to around $1,921 an ounce now. According to the Indian Bullion Jewelers Association, gold is trading at a new record high of Rs 5,681 per gram in the domestic market.

Old record was broken last week

Last week on Friday, Gold touched a new high of Rs 56,245 per 10 grams, breaking its record for the last 28 months. This was its new high after August 2020. Let us tell you that earlier on August 8, 2020, the price of gold had reached Rs 56,191 per 10 grams. On the other hand, on the first trading day of the week, it reached a new record high on Monday and according to Indian Bullion Jewelers (IBJ), gold has reached Rs 56,810 per ten grams.

sky high price in domestic market

Talking about the domestic market, according to the website of the Indian Bullion Jewelers Association (IBJA), Fine Gold (999) was trading at Rs 56,681 after removing GST till 2.30 pm on Monday. Apart from this, the price of 22 carat gold was Rs 55,450 per 10 grams and 20 carat gold was at Rs 50,560 per 10 grams.

Significantly, mostly only 22 carats are used for making jewellery. Some people also use 18 carat gold. Hall mark is made on the jewelery according to the carat. 999 is written on 24 carat gold jewellery, while 958 is written on 23 carat, 916 on 22 carat, 875 on 21 carat and 750 on 18 carat.

Effect of low inflation in US

According to experts who closely monitor the commodity market, the impact of the reduction in US Inflation figures is being seen on gold prices. There has been a fall in the dollar index, due to which there is a strong increase in the prices of gold in foreign markets. Due to this, the price of gold is on the high even in the domestic markets.

before the wedding season

This big jump in gold prices has come at a time when the wedding season is about to begin. Due to the decrease in the inflation rate, the expectation has increased that now there will be a brake on the pace of increase in interest rates by the US Federal Reserve (US Fed). On the other hand, a decline was registered in the global rate of silver.
