										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Russian news agencies reported that an American Wall Street Journal correspondent was detained in Russia on suspicion of espionage, according to the FSB security service. Evan Gershkovich was arrested on suspicion of espionage in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg, according to Interfax.</p>
<p>The FSB stated that it had &#8220;stopped the illegal activities of US citizen Gershkovich Evan, born in 1991, a correspondent for the Moscow bureau of the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal who was accredited at the Russian Foreign Ministry and suspected of spying for the American government.&#8221;</p>
<p>Rescue operations are underway after a Philippine passenger ferry catches fire and at least 31 people have perished.The authorities asserted, without evidence, that Evan Gershkovich was tasked by &#8220;the American side&#8221; with amassing intelligence on &#8220;the activities of one of the enterprises of the military-industrial complex.&#8221;</p>
