The Women’s Premier League is a new cricket tournament in India that is quickly gaining popularity. This league is helping to change the landscape of women’s Premier League cricket India, as it is providing a platform for up-and-coming female cricketers to showcase their skills.

This league is helping to promote gender equality in cricket, as well as giving women a chance to compete at the highest level. It is also helping to change the perception of women’s cricket in India, as more and more people are beginning to see it as a viable career option for young women.

The BCCI believes that the WPL will significantly change women’s cricket and make it a moneymaker. By the auction of the five WPL teams—Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Lucknow—the BCCI has already made Rs 4,670 crore. Each team was sold for an average of ‘930 crore, up from the eight IPL teams’ 2008 average sales price of ‘500 crore.

The popularity of men’s cricket has, on the other hand, historically been very high. According to financial services company Elara Capital, women’s premier league viewership in India has an average of 20 million fans, while the IPL can reach up to 500 million.

The Women’s Premier League teams are a positive step forward for the Women’s Premier League in India, and it is sure to have a lasting impact on the future of the sport.

Women’s premier league India schedule

The tournament’s 22 matches will all be played in Mumbai.
The long-awaited Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 season is scheduled to start from 4 March to 26 March in Mumbai. Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians, both coached by Beth Mooney and Harman Preet Kaur, will play in the opening game of the WPL 2023. The first season of the women’s Premier League IPL will include 5 teams. The women’s IPL 2023 will be sponsored by the IPL’s flagship sponsor, TATA group.

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 will have 22 matches played over the time of 23 days. According to the WPL 2023 schedule, three of the tournament’s five competing teams (GG, MI, RCB, DC, UPW) will continue to the playoffs.
“I am delighted to announce TataGroup as the inaugural Women’s Premier League title sponsor. With their support, we are confident that we can take women’s cricket to the next level,” tweeted Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

BCCI sources confirmed to Sportstar that the Tata Group, which also sponsors the men’s Indian Premier League, has acquired the WPL rights for five years. The Indian multinational conglomerate replaced Vivo as the IPL’s title sponsor last year.

Getting the Tata Group on board as the title sponsor is a huge deal for the WPL, which will be played at two venues in Mumbai – the Brabourne Stadium and the DY Patil Stadium – although the value of the deal is not yet known.

After selling media rights to Viacom18 for a staggering Rs 951 crore, the BCCI was able to sell five teams to prominent business groups for Rs 4,670 crore.

The auctions for the league, which will consist of 22 games for the first three years, were held in Mumbai earlier this month and drew a great deal of interest from players and media outlets. Indian opener Smriti Mandhana was the most expensive auction purchase at Rs 3.40 crore.

Women’s Premier League:All eyes are on Mumbai despite the fact that the Women’s T20 World Cup is currently taking place in South Africa. Why not, then? Every way you look at it, Monday will be a historic day for women’s cricket — not just in India — as preparations are underway for the first player auctions for the BCCI’s Women’s Premier League. By the end of the day, several of the 409 players, including 246 Indian and 163 foreign players, are anticipated to be millionaires, making them among the highest-paid female athletes.

Diana Edulji, a former India captain, correctly describes the event as significant since it would propel female cricket players into the highest-paid group of athletes in the following years. No women’s league outside of the WPL has ever held an auction before, thus on Monday, the Women’s Premier League cricketers will do so for the first time in history.

Australians will top the roster of international players for the franchises, and they feature players like all-rounders Ashleigh Gardner and Ellyse Perry; Alyssa Healy; Tahlia McGrath; captain Meg Lanning; and Beth Mooney, the WBBL’s top scorer, among others.

Everyone keeps an eye on Sophie Ecclestone, the top left-arm spinner in women’s cricket, as well as her countrymen Nat Sciver-Brunt and captain Heather Knight. Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine from New Zealand are next, followed by Shabnim Ismail, Laura Wolvaardt, and Marizanne Kapp from South Africa.

The franchises will rely on data from domestic T20 tournaments in India, the Women’s Hundred, and the Women’s Big Bash League as they try to find the right combinations for the inaugural season, which will be played from March 4 to March 26 at the Brabourne and the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
