INDw vs AUSw: India’s chances of winning the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 were dashed by a 5-run loss to Australia in Thursday’s semi-final. Team India captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s bizarre dismissal at a crucial moment added to a string of knockout losses that ended India’s hopes (February 23). The nerves of the Australians prevailed over the heroics of Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemima Rodrigues.

INDw vs AUSw Highlights: Harmanpreet was run out at a crucial moment during India’s semi-final match against Australia in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. The India captain, who played despite being ill, was playing magnificently to reach her fifty and put her team in position to chase down Australia’s 172/4. A strange occurrence, however, sent Kaur back to the pavilion when her bat became lodged in the wicket as she attempted to run it in, leaving her short of her ground as Alyssa Healy removed the bails. She was out of 52 rounds.

— VVS Laxman (@VVSLaxman281) February 23, 2023

Fans recalled a similar incident from the semifinal between India and New Zealand in the 2019 ODI World Cup. As long as former captain MS Dhoni was in the middle, India still had slim prospects despite losing a number of wickets early on. However, Dhoni was run out after scoring a half-century due to a superb throw by Martin Guptill, effectively ending India’s hopes.

Harmanpreet, visibly disheartened after the game, expressed her immense disappointment at India’s failure to win a game that had appeared within reach. “It’s impossible to be unluckier than this, to lose momentum while I and Jemi were batting. And to lose after that, we did not anticipate today’s events. It cannot get any worse than how I ran out of money. Putting forth effort was more crucial. We discussed fighting until the last ball was played. Harmanpreet stated in a post-match presentation that, despite the loss, he was satisfied with the team’s performance in this tournament.

“We are confident in our batting order, even if we lose early wickets. Jemi deserves credit for her batting performance today. She provided us with the momentum we desired. Thrilled to witness such performances. I’m pleased to see them playing their natural game. Despite not playing to our strengths, we advanced to the semifinals. We lost those simple receptions. Those must be taken if you want to succeed. We misfielded. We can only learn from these errors and not repeat them,” the captain added.

After her bizarre run-out against Australia in the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, India’s captain Harmanpreet has received support from other cricket luminaries. VVS Laxman, the head of the National Cricket Academy, took to Twitter to express his support for the India captain, stating that Harmanpreet’s run-out was the turning point of the match.

“Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues appeared to be in control of the game, but the Australians fought back admirably, and India ultimately fell short. Harmanpreet’s run-out proved decisive, according to VVS Laxman on Twitter.

And former Indian opener Virender Sehwag was not the only one to notice the similarities between the renowned dismissal of one Indian captain and the dismissal of another Indian captain in a major match. “Winner at the crease and out in the semi-finals. We have experienced this heartache before. It’s sad to see India go. Australia has once again demonstrated why they are an extremely difficult team to defeat. Well tried ladies #INDWvAUSW,” Virender Sehwag tweeted.

The 69-run partnership between Jemimah Rodrigues (43) and Harmanpreet swung momentum in India’s favour. Harmanpreet made an excellent fifty. However, Australia maintained composure to deny India a spot in the final.

INDw vs ENGw Highlights

On the day that Harmanpreet Kaur acknowledged that India’s bowling was a worry, it was Renuka who bowled an outstanding spell.

Richa Ghoss took a blinder to dismiss Danni Wyatt off the third delivery of the very first over bowled by the India fast bowler. Renuka first castled Alice Capsey in her second over and then claimed the scalp of Dunkley in her third over as India appeared in control of the situation.

Then, Nat Sciver-Brut and Heather Knight formed a crucial combination to drive the England side to safety. Knight was dismissed by Shikha Pandey for 28 runs in the eleventh over, but England had already scored 80 runs at that point.

Sciver-Brunt persevered and hit a well-executed fifty, but Deepti Sharma took her wicket with England at 120-5 after 16.5 overs. Amy Jones struck 40 off 27 balls to provide some late impetus before Renuka returned in the last over to complete her five-wicket haul with the wickets of Jones and Katherine Sciver-Brunt, bringing the English batting to a close at 152 for seven wickets in 20 overs.

In the third over, Mandhana gave India a great start by hitting four boundaries off Katherine Sciver-Brunt. But Lauren bell then dismissed the dangerous Shafali Verma for eight in the fourth over to put the brakes on the scoring.

Sarah Glenn sent Jemimah Rodrigues back to the pavilion for a score of 13 from 16 deliveries after she had already been dismissed. Sophie Eccelstone then got the important wicket of Harmanpreet as England were solidly in control with India at 62 for three after 10.2 overs.

Mandhana then received assistance from Ghosh, and the two helped India surpass the 100-run mark. The opener scored 52 runs off 41 balls before Glenn halted her innings.

Ghosh appeared to be the lone warrior for India in the end, but she did not receive sufficient help from the other end as the Indian innings ended with 140 runs, five wickets, and 20 overs remaining.

Women’s T20 World Cup 2023: In the past few months, footballers who wear eyeglasses have assumed a prominent role. After Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed and Australia’s Todd Murphy made spectacular Test debuts, Pakistan’s Muneeba Ali made a stir at the Women’s T20 World Cup in Cape Town.

As Pakistan defeated Ireland in their Group 2 match, Muneeba became the first woman to record a T20I century for Pakistan and only the sixth player in T20 World Cup history to do so. She added 101 to the third-wicket partnership with all-rounder Nida Dar as Pakistan posted 165 for 5 at the T20 World Cup, their highest score. This was 70 too many for Ireland, who were bowled out for 95 after being thwarted by spin.

Fluent Muneeba puts on a show

Since her T20I debut in 2016, Muneeba has been heralded as a prodigy, although for a long period she only displayed flashes of her brilliance. On Wednesday, the Pakistani opener dominated the bowling for Ireland and the majority of people who watched her. Her intent, whether in finding boundaries or sprinting between the wickets, was evident to everyone.

Each of Muneeba’s first five overs resulted in a four-run hit. Pakistan had raced to 41 for zero with the southpaw on 30 off 19 at that stage. In the final over of the powerplay, Javeria Khan was run out by Ireland wicketkeeper Mary Waldron’s stunning direct shot. Even though replays were inconclusive as to whether the ball carried, Bismah Maroof was soon called off for being caught at midfield.

Pakistan complete a crushing win 🌟

These dismissals had little impact on Muneeba, who was especially fond of Leah Paul’s left-arm spin. She scored a total of 23 runs off of Paul’s 15 deliveries, utilising her feet to create space and move over the off side when four fielders were stationed deep on the on side. She reached her fifty with 40 balls and then used 26 additional balls to get triple figures. She was out on the final ball of the previous over, but not before scoring 102 runs off 68 balls.

Dar makes her presence felt

Dar played a different role with the bat for a change. Frequently walking out as Pakistan’s saviour, she found herself in the middle in the eighth over with Pakistan 55 for 2 and in a precarious position. But an on-song Muneeba made her job easy, allowing her to take a back seat for a change.

Dar began her innings with a sweep through backward square leg and then hits her 12th ball into cow corner. The majority of the time, though, she rotated the strike, ran well between the wickets, and returned the strike to Muneeba. In the meanwhile, she danced down the pitch to Cara Murray’s leg-spin and blasted a six over wide long-on. In her 28-ball 33, she hit only three boundaries, but she contributed to Pakistan’s first century-run partnership in a T20 World Cup and fourth overall.

Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 updates: Ireland was constrained by turn

Women’s T20 World Cup 2023: At least two of the top three needed to win for Ireland to have a shot at an implausible chase. Gaby Lewis hit Sadia Iqbal’s left-arm spinner for a beautiful shot over mid-off, but she was undone by Dar’s dexterity with the ball. After blasting four through deliveries, Dar slowed one and drew her length slightly back, causing Lewis to go for the drive and inside edge the ball to the wicketkeeper.

Orla Prendergast then smashed several precise boundaries, including a six against Fatima Sana that she smoked over wide long-on by dancing down the pitch. She struck 31 off 21 balls with four fours and a six, but was the first of left-arm spinner Nashra Sandhu’s four dismissals.

Sandhu then ripped through the middle order, preventing and removing Eimear Richardson, who had raced to 28 off 17, to end with a career-high four wickets for eighteen. Nine of the ten wickets were taken by Pakistan’s spinners as they opened their tournament account in style.
