A 69-year US Man Accused Of Stealing $1.8 Million From Women On Dating Apps
A 69-year-old man in the United States has been called “the worst boyfriend on the Upper East Side.” He is accused of taking more than $1.8 million from many women he met through dating apps.
Nelson Counne, a New Yorker, talked to women online, met them, and then used his interactions with them to trick them into giving him money. He cheated people out of thousands of money and years of their lives by lying about who he was.
One of Nelson Counne’s many victims said that he told people he was a Vietnam War hero, an art trader, and that he had cancer.
“I think he should spend the rest of his life in jail,” she told The New York Post. “He steals from women their money and their pride.”
According to the new source, the woman met Counne in August 2000 at the Italian restaurant Campagnola on the Upper East Side. At the time, she was 49 years old. She was getting over a “pretty painful breakup,” and the “handsome” man caught her attention right away.
“At first, he was very charming, and I was very interested in him,” she told The Post.
Counne made up almost everything about his life, from the business chances he offered to the fact that he got a Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam.
“He was absolutely a sweet talker,” Kristie said. “He came up with a way to invest that if I gave him some money, he could give it back to me ten times as much because he knew someone who would let him invest. He wanted me to get paid.”

After a while, he used scams to steal $5,000 from her.
Counne was caught earlier this month and is now being charged with stealing more than $1.8 million from five women as far back as 2012.
