74th Republic Day- Unfurling India’s Valor

On Republic day, the national flag is unfurled by the president of India who is the first citizen and constitutional head of the country. And so, this year India will celebrate its 74th Republic Day on January 26, 2023.

Introduction

India is all set to commemorate its 74th Republic Day, Ganthantra Diwas in Hindi, on the 26th of January, 2023 with all the pomp and pride. People swarm to watch the spectacular march of the Army, Navy, and Air Force along with their bands and the Tableaux displaying the culture of various states. This will be followed by the Prime Minister laying a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyothi in memory of expired soldiers. Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will pay his state visit from the 24th to the 26th of January accompanied by a team of high-level delegates. On this day in 1950, the Constitution of India was drafted under the chairmanship of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar. 

 

Why Was Jan 26th Chosen As Republic Day?

January 26 was chosen as it was on this day in 1929 that the Indian National Congress released the Purna Swaraj Declaration of Indian Independence, thereby rejecting the status of Dominion under the British Regime. The Indian constitution outlines the procedures, authorities, obligations, fundamental rights, and guiding principles for both the Indian government and its people. This day is a celebration of Indian citizens’ newfound freedom to choose their own government. It is a national holiday honoring steps taken to create the Indian Constitution. 

 

How Is Republic Day Celebrated In India?

This year, Republic Day is celebrated with the same vim and zest as any other year. Twenty-three tableaux, including 17 from States and Union Territories and six from various Ministries and Departments, will parade down Kartavya Path on January 26, 2023, showcasing the nation’s rich cultural legacy, economic prosperity, and strong internal and external security.

 

Significance Of India’s Republic Day

One of the most stunning parades in the world is India’s Republic Day Parade. People from various places travel to India around this period to see the splendor of the Republic Day celebrations in Delhi.The President of India raises the National Flag and presents the Paramvir Chakra, Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra, and Children’s National Bravery Award in recognition of the heroic citizens of India. Three divisions of the Indian Armed Forces—Navy, Air Force, and Indian Army—lead the Republic Day Parade. Additionally, there will be a number of cultural displays, a troop parade, military bands, air exhibitions, and astonishing skills and daring on display by military vehicles. On this day, schools in India are closed, but students still attend class to honour this national holiday by flying the flag, performing plays and dances, and eating treats. We are honored to be Indian and Celebrate this 74th Republic Day with full dignity.

 

Republic Day Parade

The first Republic Day Parade was conducted on January 26, 1950, and was presided over by Indonesian President Sukarno. It was led by then-Brigadier Moti Sagar of the Gorkha Regiment. The flypast of the parade featured more than a hundred aircraft, including Harvards, Consolidated B-24 Liberators, Dakotas, Hawker Tempest, Spitfires, and jet aircraft. [3]

 As a voice for‘Vocal for Local’, all Indian army equipments displayed at the Republic Day parade this year are made in India. 105 mm Indian Field Guns built in India will fire the 21 Gun Salute” (IFGs). A military unit from Egypt will also participate in the Republic Day Parade in 2023 on Kartavya Path.

The march will travel by the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose statue at the roundabout, the C-Hexagon, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, and Netaji Subhash Marg. After this, the glorious tableaux is displayed. The Ministry of Defence chooses the tableaux through a process that follows a number of rules. The ministry advises that tableaux depict historical occurrences, cultural traditions, development initiatives, and the environment. The tableaux should have some motion and sound but not contain any logos. Twenty-three tableaux, including 17 from States and Union Territories and six from various Ministries and Departments, will parade down Kartavya Path on January 26, 2023 (74th Republic Day). 

 

The Indian Beating Retreat

 

 Indian Beating Retreat ceremony is marks the official conclusion of the 74th Republic Day. The event is on the evening of January 29, which is the third day after Republic Day. The bands from the three military branches, the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force, perform it. The location is near the end of Rajpath at Raisina Hills and Vijay Chowk, a nearby area flanked by the north and south blocks of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The Indian President, the event’s chief guest, is escorted to the venue by a cavalry detachment known as the Presidential Body Guard (PBG). The Indian National Anthem is played after the PBG commander instructs the unit to deliver the National Salute as the President arrives. The ceremony of display by the massed bands known as Gana Mana was created by the Army. It features Military Bands, Pipe and Drum Bands, Buglers, and Trumpeters from various Army Regiments and bands from the Navy and Air Force. At the conclusion, popular songs like the National Song of India, Vande Mataram, and Mahatma Gandhi’s favorite hymn, Vaishnava Jana To, are played.

India celebrates Republic Day as a national holiday, and people do so in a variety of ways. While children take part in Republic Day activities at schools, everyone is hooked to the television to watch the parade. The President of India hoists the National Flag at the event, held in New Delhi’s Rajpath. The Indian Armed Forces organise the parade. People also honour all of the Indian freedom fighters who gave their lives in the cause of their country.
