A shooting that took place at a ballroom dance studio in the city of Monterey Park, which is located in California and is close to the city of Los Angeles, resulted in the deaths of ten persons, according to the police.
The offender is still at large, according to the police, and another ten individuals have been hurt.
On Saturday evening at approximately 22:20 local time, the shooting took place (06:20 GMT on Sunday).
Earlier in the day, thousands of people had congregated in the city to celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Monterey Park event.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has stated that they are searching for a man suspect who ran away from the scene, but they have not provided any other information about him.
According to Captain Andrew Meyer, who is in charge of the incident, when the emergency services came, they discovered customers “pouring out of the site screaming.”

There have been at least ten more people injured, all of whom are currently being treated at area hospitals; their situations range from stable to critical.

According to the investigators, there was no obvious motivation, and it was too soon to determine whether or not the act was motivated by bias.
About 60,000 people call Monterey Park, California, home, and it boasts a sizeable population of people of Asian descent.
Videos posted online showed a heavy police presence in the city, which is situated about eight miles (13km) east of Los Angeles.
The Star Ballroom Dance Studio is one of several businesses on the 100 block of West Garvey Avenue, where the shooting took place.
Three people reportedly ran into the witness’s restaurant and warned him to lock the door because a man armed with a machine gun was nearby, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Another incident occurred nearby.
Captain Meyer also stated that police were aware of a second incident in Monterey Park, a suburb north of Monterey Park, but did not elaborate.
“We have investigators on the scene trying to figure out if there’s a link between these two incidents,” he said.
No one was hurt at the second location in Alhambra, but police are still on the scene, according to CBS News.
The annual Lunar New Year festival is a weekend-long event that has previously drawn crowds of over 100,000 visitors.
The Lunar New Year festival events on Sunday have been cancelled due to Saturday’s “tragic incident,” according to a statement from the City of Monterey Park.
It was made clear that the shooting did not take place at the festival.
Saturday night’s festivities were set to end at 21:00 local time (05:00 GMT on Sunday).
