A Spanish man got one year in prison for hitting his wife while livestreaming on TikTok

Judge condemned to one year in prison and barred him from approaching or speaking with his wife for three years

A man who slapped his wife during a TikTok livestream was sentenced today to one year in prison

Madrid: A Spanish man who slapped his wife during a TikTok broadcast was condemned to one year in prison today, despite the victim’s refusal to submit a police report.
A judge in the northern city of Soria deemed the man guilty of aggression against women and barred him from approaching or speaking with his wife for three years, as well as from obtaining a firearm during that time.

The punishment comes from an incident that occurred during a TikTok “battle” – a real-time rivalry between broadcasters where the victor is chosen by spectators – between the lady and three males on January 28.

The guy is seen striking his wife in the face so hard that her head twists and she breaks out weeping in pictures that went viral in Spain.

“The defendant attacked his wife publicly and openly in front of thousands of people with the intent of undermining her bodily dignity and publicly humiliating her,” the court declared.

“In cases of gender abuse, the victim is not required to file a report. These should be penalised once it is established that they have occurred “The judge went on to say.

“Broadcasting the slap live is enough for officials to intervene and safeguard the victim, whether or not she recognises herself as such.”

The woman refused to file charges against her spouse and also refused to testify against him during the trial.

But the judge said police had been summoned to the couple’s house in the past because of “disputes between the accused and his wife” which showed there was “continued mistreatment”.

Domestic abuse has been prioritised by successive Spanish administrations on both the right and left.

In 2004, the European Parliament passed Europe’s first legislation explicitly targeting gender-based violence.

It created special courts for victims, provided free legal assistance, and developed a hotline that would not show on users’ phone bills.
