After BJP candidate Shikha Rai withdrew her nomination, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Shelly Oberoi was unanimously elected as mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Wednesday.
Aaley Mohammad Iqbal of the AAP received a second term as deputy mayor after BJP candidate Soni Pal relinquished her candidacy.
Shelly Oberoi has been re-elected as the mayor of Delhi. In February of this year, after much wrangling between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party, Oberoi was elected mayor of Delhi. Rekha Gupta of the BJP was defeated by Shelly Oberoi by a margin of 34 ballots. Oberoi received 150 votes, while Gupta garnered 116 votes out of a total of 266 votes cast.
Today was the scheduled date for the Delhi mayoral and deputy mayoral elections. However, the withdrawal of the BJP candidates allowed the AAP candidates to win uncontested for the second consecutive term.

The AAP was victorious in the high-stakes elections.
The consolidation of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (104 wards), the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (104 wards), and the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (64 wards) took place last year, and a notification to that effect was issued in May.
