Shreyas Iyer’s participation in the 2023 Asia Cup, which will be played in August and September, is uncertain. Currently, the batsman, who is 28 years old, is undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
During the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy match against Australia at home, the customary captain of the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) felt uneasy. Due to a recurrence of a back injury, the Indian middle-order batter has been ruled out of the remainder of the Australia series and the entire 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL).
Iyer also missed the 2023 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final, which Team India lost to Pat Cummins-led Australia by 209 runs at The Oval in London. Notably, he underwent back surgery in London recently. According to the Times of India (TOI), it is unlikely that Iyer will recover in time to compete in the continental championship. According to a reliable source, the 28-year-old received an injection for his back pain at the NCA, but his back continues to torment him.
“Recently, Iyer received an injection for his back discomfort at the National Cricket Academy of the BCCI. “His back continues to bother him,” a source told TOI.

Iyer has once again been omitted from the West Indies tour squad owing to injury.
Due to a back ailment, Shreyas Iyer was previously ruled out of the ODI series against New Zealand in January 2023. Earlier this year, following the final match of the Sri Lanka series, he also complained of a stiff back. In addition, he was not selected for India’s upcoming July tour of the West Indies.
The middle-order batsman has represented Team India in 10 Tests, 42 ODIs, and 49 T20Is thus far. In 2017, the Mumbaikkar made his international debut at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi against New Zealand. He has scored 1631 runs at an average of 46.6 in the 50-over format.
