After Security Threat, Operations At US Embassy in London Back To Normal

A security alert was issued at the US embassy in London on Wednesday after a suspicious package was noticed lying unattended outside the building. However, the situation is back to normal now.

Operations at the United States Embassy in London resumed after a brief security threat on Wednesday.Wednesday  saw the United States Embassy in London issue a security warning to the local population. According to accounts from British media outlets, employees of the embassy were ordered to vacate the building and warned to “keep well away from the windows.” In spite of this, the situation was eventually brought under control by the authorities after some time had passed. According to The Jerusalem Post, an alert was triggered when a suspicious box was spotted laying unattended outside the building. The parcel was found lying on the ground.

The United States Embassy tweeted their gratitude to the authorities for their prompt response, saying: “The United States Embassy in Afghanistan has resumed its regular business operations. A suspicious package was found outside the Embassy, and local officials conducted an investigation into it. We would like to thank @metpoliceuk for their prompt response, as well as all of the guests for their willingness to cooperate and your patience during this time.”

According to reports, the entire building was placed under lockdown as a precaution owing to the security risk. Users on Twitter provided videos and photographs that showed individuals crouching well away from doors, windows, and glass walls while security personnel maintained a tight watch. As a result of the security threat, the Nine Elms neighbourhood in London, which is where the Embassy is situated, was sealed off.

According to a report by MailOnline, a witness who lives in close proximity to the embassy was able to observe the structure from their window. She is reported to have stated that “armed cops and sniffer dogs are patrolling the neighbourhood,” which was cited in the report.
