A recent cyber intrusion encrypted 1.3 gigabytes of data on five AIIMS servers, according to the federal minister for state for electronics and information technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s statement to Parliament on Friday. This information was provided by the national cyber security agency.
In a written reply to Parliament, Chandrasekhar indicated that the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) reviewed the situation, but he emphasised that AIIMS servers were handled exclusively by them. This was stated in the context of the fact that CERT-In conducted the evaluation.
“As per preliminary analysis, servers were compromised in the information technology network of AIIMS by unknown threat actors due to improper network segmentation,” the Ministry of State stated. “This caused operational disruption due to the non-functionality of critical applications,” the ministry continued, adding that “CERT-In and other stakeholder entities have advised necessary remedial measures.”
Sushil Modi, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), requested that he provide specifics regarding the quantity of data that had been compromised in the AIIMS cyber attack from the previous year. In the past five years, there have been 4.5 million incidents related to cybersecurity, as stated by Chandrasekhar.
