CCTV footage in Delhi has captured the radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh, who has been on the run from the police for over a week after fleeing Punjab.
In the video, Amritpal Singh is seen without his turban in an apparent attempt to evade the police. He was wearing sunnies and a denim jacket. His aide Papalpreet Singh also appears in the CCTV footage. Both individuals concealed their identities with masks.
The Delhi CCTV video timestamp indicates March 21, three days after the police moved in to arrest him in Punjab on March 18.Sources said Amritpal Singh and Papalpreet Singh came to Delhi via Kurukshetra in Haryana. The police have not disclosed whether he is still hiding in Delhi or if he has also fled the nation’s capital.
Nepal, India’s Himalayan neighbor, has already placed him on its surveillance list because he may attempt to cross the border with a fake passport.
Since he fled Punjab a week ago, several CCTV clips depicting the two wanted men fleeing from the police and taking refuge in a house have surfaced. These images have assisted the police in forming a clear picture of how he fled the state.
Amritpal Singh is the leader of “Waris Punjab De,” a radical organization founded by Deep Sidhu. His private militia, the Anandpur Khalsa Fauj, or AKF, is accused of recruiting young people to take up arms and commit acts of violence.
