Army Cheetah helicopter crashes in Arunachal, pilots missing

Army’s Cheetah helicopter crashed in Arunachal Pradesh’s Bomdila town on Thursday. The chopper had earlier lost contact with the ATC.

Cheetah helicopter crashes: Reportedly, an Army Aviation Cheetah helicopter conducting an operational mission near Bomdila in Arunachal Pradesh’s border with China crashed west of Bomdila near Mandala. The helicopter transporting two pilots has been missing since the morning.Thursday at approximately 9:15 a.m., the helicopter was reported to have lost contact with the Air Traffic Control. “Scouting parties have been dispatched.”

“While travelling from Senge village to Missamari, an Army helicopter lost contact and could not be located. At approximately 12.30 p.m., villagers from Bangjalep, Dirang PS reported the discovery of a crashed helicopter “Police in Arunachal Pradesh stated.”There were two pilots on board. Army, SSB, and police search and rescue teams have already departed for the location. As the area has no signal, no photos are available at this time. Today’s weather is extremely overcast, with visibility of 5 metres.”

Previously, 13 members of the Indian Air Force perished when an AN-32 aircraft crashed on June 3, 2019, shortly after lifting off from Jorhat, Assam.The aircraft was en route to Mechuka Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) in Arunachal Pradesh at around 1 p.m. when it lost contact with ground authorities.

The aircraft’s wreckage was located by a Mi-17 helicopter following an eight-day search and rescue operation in which assets from multiple agencies were deployed.The remains of IAF personnel were recovered from the accident site in Arunachal Pradesh on June 20.The wreckage was found 16 kilometres north of Lipo in Arunachal Pradesh at an altitude of 4,000 metres.
