Sunday, a Special Task Force (STF) team from the Prayagraj police department arrived at the Sabarmati Central prison in Ahmedabad in order to retrieve the incarcerated gangster Atiq Ahmed. He is one of the accused in the abduction of Umesh Pal, for which a verdict will be rendered on March 28.
According to ANI, DG (prisons) Anand Kumar stated, “Mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed will be isolated in a high-security detention barrack. His confinement will be equipped with a CCTV camera. Staff members will be selected and assigned based on their credentials, and they will be equipped with body-worn cameras. The Prayagraj Jail office and Jail headquarters will monitor a video wall around the clock. The DIG Jail HQ will be sent to Prayagraj Jail to oversee all arrangements.”
On Sunday morning, the police completed his medical examination, and preparations are ongoing to bring him back to Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, Atiq must be present in court when the verdict is rendered.
Umesh Pal, a vital witness in the infamous Raju Pal murder case, was gunned down in broad daylight on February 24 in the Sulem Sarai neighborhood of Prayagraj by multiple assailants. The entire family of Atiq Ahmed has been named as suspects in the case, including his two sons and wife.
Following the incident, the Prayagraj police engaged two gunmen in gunfights and executed them. The police have not yet made any arrests in this case as they attempt to locate all of the suspects. In contact with the Atiq Ahmed gang in some capacity, the UP Police evacuated Prayagraj of approximately nine officers earlier this week.
Additionally, the police have informed the officials of seven states that Atiq’s wife Shahista and son Asad may be present. Included among these are Delhi, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
Since the police launched a massive manhunt, Atiq Ahmed’s wife and son, as well as other suspects in the case, are on the run.The court reserved its decision during the previous hearing and will announce it on Tuesday, March 28. According to sources cited by ABP News, police can depart for UP with Atiq at any time. Notably, UP police had previously requested permission to bring Atiq back from Gujarat for a comprehensive investigation of the case.
