Actor and ruling BJP Member of Parliament Sunny Deol.
Given the public outcry caused by Bank of Baroda’s withdrawal of the notice to auction actor-MP Sunny Deol’s house, the lender has published a new statement.
“First, the total dues did not say how much money had to be paid back. Second, “Rule 8(6) of The Security Interest (Enforcement) Rules 2002 says that the sale notice was based on a symbolic possession of the property,” the bank said in a statement.
“On August 1, 2023, the Bank asked the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate for permission to take control of the property. The permission is still being decided. Since the borrower told us that the unit is running, the SARFAESI Act will be used to start the sale process once real possession is taken, the BoB said in its statement.
The bank also said that the “borrower,” which was Deol, came to them to settle their debts. This was in response to a sale notice that was published on August 20, which said that the “borrower/guarantors were notified that they are entitled to redeem the securities by paying the outstanding dues, costs, charges, and expenses at any time before the sale is conducted.”
The bank’s spokesperson said, “As a result, the sale notice has been rescinded, which is standard practise in the industry.”
Earlier in the day, there was a big fight after the opposition, including the Congress, questioned the bank’s decision to pull the notice for the e-auction of an actor and BJP MP’s house in Juhu.
“Yesterday afternoon, the whole country found out that the Bank of Baroda had put BJP MP Sunny Deol’s Juhu home up for e-auction because he hasn’t paid the 56 crore he owes the Bank. This morning, less than 24 hours after the sale notice was sent out, the country found out that the Bank of Baroda had taken it down for “technical reasons.” Who made these “technical reasons” come up?” In a post on X (which used to be Twitter), top Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said this.

The Bank of Baroda put Deol’s bungalow in Mumbai’s Juhu up for auction because the star hadn’t paid back a 55.99 crore loan that was due in December 2022. The actor’s Sunny Villa bungalow has his office, a preview theatre, and two post-production suites. It also has a recording lab called Sunny Super Sound.
