Beware of job scam! Man loses ₹18 lakh in recent case; here are some safety tips

In India, there has been a recent increase in the number of online frauds. Individuals are falling victim to carefully orchestrated online hoaxes that result in the loss of their hard-earned money. 

A significant number of individuals are enticed by the promise of quick and effortless income through part-time work or online duties. Scammers frequently initiate contact via WhatsApp, luring potential victims with home-based employment opportunities.

In the most recent incident, a resident of Mumbai fell victim to one of these cons and lost approximately 18 lakh while attempting to earn additional income online.

According to PTI, a 48-year-old resident of Kharghar was lured by the promise of quick wealth. Initially, he was compensated for his efforts after being persuaded to complete specific tasks. His unlucky result was the loss of 17.9 lakh, which he had transferred to various bank accounts in the expectation of earning greater returns. Unfortunately, he never received any returns, and the victim revealed that the funds were sent to four distinct bank accounts.

In response to the man’s complaint, the cyber police station in Navi Mumbai launched an investigation and lodged a cheating case.

Scams of this nature are common, and protecting oneself from online con artists requires vigilance. Consider taking these precautions to avoid becoming a simple target.

It is of the utmost importance to protect yourself from online frauds, and there are five simple but crucial steps to keep in mind.

First, it is essential to maintain a high level of vigilance when dealing with unexpected emails or suspicious-looking communications. Be skeptical of such messages.

Second, avoid acting on links from unknown senders, as they may direct you to malicious websites or downloads.

Thirdly, diligently protect your personal information and never reveal it to unknown callers, especially if they request it over the phone or via text message, especially if it involves financial transactions.
