A 60-year-old man in South Korea killed over a 1000 abandoned dogs
In a horrific incident, a 60-year-old man in South Korea killed over a 1000 abandoned dogs, according to media reports. The Korea Herald reports that the accused has confessed to taking in stray canines and starving them until they perished, as determined by the South Korean police investigating the animal cruelty case.
Animal rights activists, on the other hand, asserted that the man was paid by dog breeders to dispose of older or less commercially desirable dogs. He was paid 10,000 won per canine beginning in 2020 to “take care” of them, after which he shut them up and starved them to death, according to a Care representative who spoke to MBN.
When searching for his own lost canine, a local discovered the tragedy in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province, the most populous area of South Korea.
According to reports, the decaying remains of abused canines formed a layer on the ground, on top of which more corpses were piled to form another row, and so on. The malnourished canines were confined in enclosures, crates, and rubber containers.
The Yangpyeong local government stated that the deceased canines would be removed this week.
Four canines survived the excruciating conditions and are receiving treatment for malnutrition and skin disease at a clinic. Two of the four canines are reportedly in critical condition, according to South China Morning Post.

In spite of South Korea’s stringent animal protection laws, where those who intentionally starve or dehydrate an animal to death face up to three years in prison or fines of up to 30 million won, animal abuse has been on the increase.
Between 2010 and 2019, Mirror reported that the number of animal cruelty cases increased from 69 to 914. According to the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency of the agriculture ministry, the number of abandoned animals increased by approximately 40,000.
