Lara Dutta was only 22 years old when she won the crown of miss universe, six years after Sushmita Sen, and she has ruled hearts ever since with her elegance, charisma, and diverse acting skills.

In 2000, protests erupted in Cyprus on the grounds that beauty contests objectified women. During the concluding question-and-answer round, Lara was tasked with persuading those protesting the pageant outside the venue.
“I believe that pageants, such as the Miss Universe pageant, provide a platform for young women to enter the professions they desire and advance. Be it entrepreneurship, the armed forces, or politics, success is essential. It provides us a platform to express our preferences and viewpoints and makes us the strong and independent individuals we are today,” Lara responded with confidence and impressed the judges.

Intriguingly, she was also questioned about the differences between male and female politicians in India. She replied that female politicians possess a certain degree of sensitivity.
She also explained the concept of Bharatnatyam, stating confidently that she could not demonstrate even a few steps of the dance style because she was wearing a sari.
Regarding her Miss Universe attire, Lara wore a backless red evening gown and radiated ethereal beauty.
In 2000, she commemorated two decades since reaching the milestone by sharing iconic images from the beauty pageant.

Lara debuted in Bollywood with the film Andaaz in 2003, just three years after winning Miss Universe. She is best known for her roles in the films Bhagam Bhag, Kaal, Partner, the Don series, and Bell Bottom, among others.
In terms of her personal life, she married former tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi in 2011 and they have a daughter named Saira.
