During a two-day special inspection campaign that was carried out by the mobile wings of various districts at Mandi Gobindgarh on August 23 and 24, 107 vehicles were impounded due to a lack of e-way bills and other required documents, according to the minister of finance, planning, excise, and taxation for the state of Punjab, Harpal Cheema, who stated on Thursday in Chandigarh that the announcement was made. It is possible that the defaulters would have to pay a fine that is greater than 2 crore.
Cheema stated that the officers with the mobile wings were authorised to access business premises as well as the necessary records in accordance with Section 71 of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act. As a result, these officers were able to inspect business premises in addition to vehicles that were actively moving on the road, and they could also investigate the necessary records.
He stated that during the checking that took place on August 23, the mobile wings of Patiala, Ludhiana, and the State Intelligence and Preventive Unit (SIPU) confiscated a total of 55 vehicles, while the mobile wings of Ropar, Patiala, and Shambhu seized a total of 52 vehicles up to the afternoon of August 24. He also stated that the State Intelligence and Preventive Unit (SIPU) seized a total of 52 vehicles.
“After issuing the notice in these cases, the responses of the firms concerned will be evaluated by the Tax Intelligence Unit in order to fix penalties against defaulters,” he stated.

According to the minister in charge of taxation, the mobile tax teams of the department of taxes are on duty around the clock every day. When they receive information on large-scale tax evasion in any location, mobile wings from various districts are utilised to run a surprise operation to round up the tax evaders, he added. He stated that the mobile wings are used to round up the tax evaders.
