Chhattisgarh election Phase 1: Key constituencies and candidates

On November 7, the first round of voting will take place for twenty seats in the upcoming Chhattisgarh election. The Congress had won 17 of these seats in the 2018 election.

Tuesday is the first day of the two-part election in Chhattisgarh. In 20 seats, most of them are in the Naxal-hit Bastar area, where people will vote. This list of seats had 18 races in 2018. The Congress got 17 of them, while the BJP only managed to get 2. The Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (JCC) won one seat.

Here are the most important candidates and districts in the first round of the Chhattisgarh poll.

Girish Dewangan of the Congress party is running against Dr. Raman Singh for the Rajnandgaon assembly seat, where he used to be chief minister. He was the leader of the state for 15 years, from 2003 to 2018. Singh’s opponent, Girish Dewangan, is the state general secretary of the party and is known to be friendly with Bhupesh Baghel, who is the chief minister.

Bhawna Bohra (BJP)

Bhawna Bohra, who is running against Neelu Chandravanshi of the Congress Party from the Pandariya seat, ‘Ambulance Wali Didi’ is what people call her because of how hard she works to help others. With a lot of experience in the Kavardha and Bemetra areas, Bhawna has done a lot of work in both politics and social service.

Mohammad Akbar

Mohammad Akbar is also a major player; he is the only Muslim running for the Chhattisgarh assembly. He will run from the Kawardha assembly district, which is where he won his first election in 2018 against Ashok Sahu of the BJP, even though there are a lot of Sahus living in that seat.

Savitri Manoj Mandavi

The Congress is running Mandavi against Gautam Uike in the Bhanupratappur district. Mandavi is another important leader that the Congress has chosen to run for. The late Congress MLA Manoj Mandavi was married to her. He won the seat in 2018.

After Manoj Mandavi died, his wife won the 2022 Bhanupratappur bye-elections and became an MLA for the district.

Kawasi Lakhma

The Congress has decided to run Lakhma as its candidate in Konta. He is already the MLA for this seat. Soyam Muka is running for office from Konta for the BJP.

The election for the last 70 seats will happen on November 17, and the votes will be counted on December 3.
