Chhattisgarh proposes bill to increase pension, allowances for ex-MLAs

The measure proposes ex-Members of Parliament will receive a 10,000 telephone allowance and a 15,000 orderly allowance.

 

Monday, the Chhattisgarh government introduced a measure to increase former legislators’ monthly pension from 35,000 to 58,300. In addition, the law proposes that former legislators will be eligible for an additional pension of 1,000 per month one year after completing their first term.

The Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Members Salary, Allowance, and Pension (Amendment) Bill 2023 is anticipated to be discussed in the coming days, according to officials.

The proposed legislation would enhance the annual limit for railway/air travel allowance for members from 8 lakh to 10 lakh. In addition, ex-MLAs will receive a 10,000 telephone allowance and 15,000 orderly allowance, according to the document.

Last year, the Chhattisgarh assembly enacted four bills to increase the salaries of the chief minister, opposition leader, ministers, and legislators. Speaker of the assembly, Deputy Speaker, and Secretaries of the legislature.

The salary of the chief minister was increased to 2.05 lakh per month from 1.35 lakh, while ministers received 1.9 lakh as opposed to 1.3 lakh. The monthly compensation of the deputy speaker was increased from 1.28 lakh to 1.8 lakh, and the monthly salary of the speaker was increased from 1.32 lakh to 1.95 lakh.
