Berlin:

Local authorities in the town of Recklinghausen in western Germany have stated that a child was murdered and another child was critically injured on Thursday as a result of being hit by a train while walking along a railway line in the town.
Bild newspaper stated the victims were dragged by a freight train for several hundred metres (yards) (yards).

“It’s an awful situation. Children and trains, and at such a tender age, it’s just terrible what happened here, and one can only hope that the child’s parents will have the fortitude to get through this terrible tragedy “Herbert Reul, who serves as the Minister of the Interior for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, addressed the media present at the scene.
“Why, how come, these are all questions that no one can answer yet and that wouldn’t help anything,” he added. “These are all issues that no one can yet answer.”
Near 1998, a high-speed train operated by the state-owned Deutsche Bahn that had derailed in Eschede in Lower Saxony was responsible for Germany’s deadliest rail accident, which resulted in the deaths of 101 persons.
