On Friday, Congress Member of Parliament Rajani Ashokrao Patil was found guilty of parliamentary misbehaviour, which resulted in her being suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the balance of the Budget session. The Congress member was suspended after tweeting a video from inside the House in which opposition lawmakers can be seen demonstrating against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s answer to the Motion of Thanks on Thursday. The Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, has expressed his “serious perspective” on the situation and referred to her actions as “unwholesome behaviour.”
“Yesterday, in the public domain, there occurred the broadcast of a video on Twitter referring to proceedings of this House.

“Rajani Ashokrao Patil participated in this questionable behaviour, and what has been witnessed is a concern that calls for our attention,” Dhankhar stated.
Patil will continue to serve on administrative leave until the Privileges Committee completes its investigation of the incident and reports its findings. Dhankhar stated that in order to preserve the sanctity of Parliament, the case will not be given to any outside body for investigation.
Patil’s participation in the current session of the House of Representatives has been put on hold while the Privileges Committee investigates the entire incident, as he explained: “The entire matter will be investigated by the Privileges Committee, and until we have the benefit of the recommendation of the Privileges Committee for consideration of this august House, Patil is suspended.”
Earlier in the day, Chairman Dhankhar requested that the heads of all of the major political parties give their opinions on a problem concerning the filming of House proceedings while Prime Minister Modi was delivering his speech on the Motion of Thanks. A proposal to suspend Patil for the remainder of the present Budget session was approved, and the suspension took effect immediately.
