Deepak Bagla, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Invest India, an investment promotion and facilitation entity under the ministry of commerce and industry, has resigned citing “personal reasons,” .
Upon his return from the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos earlier this year, Bagla came under intensified scrutiny and was recently questioned by a Ministry of Commerce audit about the work of the investment promotion body, according to a Moneycontrol report.
Moneycontrol has learned that the audit lasted a year and that Bagla was subjected to intense interrogation. According to the aforementioned sources, the Commerce Ministry reprimanded Bagla after discovering that no substantive work had been performed on the ground.
Who is Deepak Bagla?
1. In his current position, Deepak Bagla served as managing director and chief executive officer of Invest India, the Indian government’s National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency established in 2009 under section 25 of the Companies Act.
2.His profile on the Invest India website states that Bagla has worked for the World Bank and Citibank for over three decades and is a member of several high-level government committees, including Fintech and Innovation.
3.He is the president of the 105-member World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies, headquartered in Geneva. He is also a member of the Prime Minister’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Advisory Council as a special invitee.
4.The “Grande Ufficiale della Stella d’Italia” was conferred upon Bagla by the President of the Republic of Italy.
5.Bagla possesses a bachelor’s degree in economics with honours from St Stephens College in New Delhi and a dual master’s degree in international diplomacy and international trade and finance from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in Washington, D.C.
