DC named David Warner as captain: Delhi Capitals named David Warner as captain for the 2023 Indian Premier League season. Axar Patel has been designated the Australian’s assistant for the upcoming season. Warner will replace wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who will be unavailable for the entire season as he continues to rehabilitate from a severe car accident he sustained in December of last year.
“David Warner (captain) and Axar Patel (vc). Under the leadership of these two dynamic southpaws, #IPL2023 is poised to roar,” DC wrote.

Warner began his IPL tenure in 2009 with the Delhi franchise (then known as Delhi Daredevils), but five years later he switched to Sunrisers Hyderabad. He led the SRH to a championship in 2016, the franchise’s only victory in the tournament to date. Warner was dismissed by the franchise following a dispute with team management in the 2021 edition and eventually returned to Delhi.
“Rishabh has been an outstanding leader for Delhi Capitals, and we will all mourn his presence. I would like to thank the management for their unwavering confidence in me. This franchise has always been my home, and I could not be more ecstatic to oversee such an incredibly talented group of athletes. I can’t wait to meet everyone and get started!” Warner stated in a statement issued by DC after the announcement.
Warner scored 432 runs for the Capitals in 12 games during the previous tournament at a remarkable strike rate of 150.62. He scored five fifty-plus scores during the tournament.In addition to the leadership announcements, the Capitals also confirmed Sourav Ganguly’s return to the franchise, this time as Director of Cricket. Prior to his presidency of the BCCI, Ganguly was a mentor for the Capitals.

“I’m thrilled to rejoin the Delhi Capitals. In the past few months, my association with the women’s team and the Pretoria Capitals has been fantastic, and I’m looking forward to the impending IPL season. The Delhi Capitals performed well as a team during my previous tenure with them. This time around, I’ve already interacted with the players, so I’m eager to observe them as a collective. Ganguly stated that he hoped everyone would have a wonderful time over the next couple of months.
