The top government official in Delhi who was charged with raping the daughter of a friend who had died has been taken into custody by the Delhi Police. His wife has also been arrested because she gave an underage girl abortion pills as a cover-up.
The official was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and detained a few hours after Delhi’s chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, told him to be fired.
“The assistant director who is being accused and his wife are being questioned. The investigation will include any other witnesses or suspects,” DCP North District Sagar Singh Kalsi told the news agency ANI.
Earlier in the day, the official, who was a deputy director in the department for women and children, had a FIR filed against her. Investigators found that the young girls lived with their parents in an area in north Delhi. Her father was a top government figure in Delhi. He died in the year 2020.

Between October 2020 and February 2021, he is said to have raped the girl several times at his home. The girl found out she was pregnant in 2021. She told the official’s wife, who told her not to tell anyone about the abuse. She even gave the girl pills to have an abortion.
After a while, the girl’s mother went to the home of the official who was being charged to meet her daughter. The daughter asked to go home because she was sick. Police say that the girl met the suspect official at the holy place where she was abused.
